True. Availability of spares would not be a problem. Besides, it would also be easy to find a buyer,in case one is ready to sell.
I have never seen a Polo but definitely a Vento, a Rapid among others, being used as OLA cabs. I also know cases where in people buy good cars and hire a driver for it. They register it as a commercial vehicle and deploy it as taxi during times when they don't have personal use for it. This Tiago might be one such case (I have seen it twice).

re: Tata Tiago : Official Review

TATA Motors (TML) has increased the price of Tiago across all variants by INR 6,000 to INR 8,000.

TML can further increase the prices before the festive season.

Quick facts:
  • Tiago has received 40,000 bookings within 4 months of its launch.
  • Tiago contributes 38% of company's domestic sales.
  • TML sold 5,114 copies of Tiago in July 2016.

When i asked the dealer here about registering the Tiago as a taxi they said its not possible and will take another 6 - 7 months before it can be registered. Really who decides whether a car can be registered as a taxi - RTO, Manufacturer or the Dealer?

As per my knowledge, it is illegal to sell a car without RTO registration. And dealer has to initiate registration process. This is where the manufacturer can instruct dealer not to sell and register new model as commercial vehicle.
Now Tata may be building some non taxi image for new car.

Thats 10000 per month. Tiago is a success for now but

1. Supply is half the demand.
2. No proper strategy to market a rare success after a few decades.
3. Per Horizon Next, Tata was supposed to launch 2 products per year. Tiago was to be launched last year. Only one product set to be launched this year which can be the kite sedan.
4. No news about Tiago AMT.

Tata Motors is still a work in progress. Hope its not too late before they get things sorted.

Just heard Hormazd Sorabjee talking about Tiago Sport on Autocar in its scoop section. He said Tata is mulling a sport variant of Tiago, slapping a turbocharger on its current 3 cyl petrol engine producing in excess of 105 bhp. They have apparently shelved Bolt Sport plan due to poor demand.

What is the mileage of tiago Diesel on highway if driven between 80 kmph to 100 kmph range ? I am currently driving Swift VDi which has clocked 1.75 lacs and returns around 20 kmpl on above circumstances.

TML has 3 products ready for launch - Kite 5, Hexa and Nexon, in its bin.
Nexon is most likely be launched next year only. So this Diwali, we may see Kite 5 and Hexa reaching showroom floors.

Also, Tiago AMT is already doing test rounds and has been spotted recently . I don't have link to share but just google it and you'll find the image.

I would disagree on that. Infact Tiago is one of the strongly marketed car in the sector. With a heavy push through both the traditional and new age digital mediums. Right from Tata representatives on the Delhi auto expo floor to the sales executives at the dealership floor they are well informed and very well aware of the competition. They group is well strategized IMO. Just look at their showrooms too.

In my opinion, the forum is still devoid of diesel Tiago owners. But, if the petrol version is returning 16-17kmpl on the highways as claimed by a few owners, the diesel also would return something in the ballpark of the swift diesel.

If you don't mind, could you please share the reason for preferring a Tiago Revotorq over any maruti DDiS?

Saw this week's Overdrive episode, expert suggested Celerio over Tiago citing reasons that TML is sorting out some reliability issues with Tiago, is this true?

Looks like Celerio is feeling the Tiago heat. Sales reaching 5K per month figure and booking crossing 40000 are a real worrying thing for Maruti. Hopefully Tata launches Tiago AMT version soon and overtake Celerio. I find many Overdrive reviews biased.

Mileage is my main reason for considering revotorq but only if it will give me 22-24 kmpl on highway run otherwise i am ok with DDiS. DDiS is one of the most reliable engine ever. At 1.75 lacs km run, there is no issue with engine and felt that it could easily do another 50k mark on odo.

Hi Nilay,

I have the 2012 Vista which has done 94000 kms and still going strong on the Fiat engine. The one before that was the Indica Dicor which had run 167500 kms when we sold it and bought the Vista. I remember hitting a mileage in that vicinity on the highway. No reason why the newer tech Revotorq should be any poorer.

Mileage would predominantly depend on road conditions, speed and driving skills. So, I would say, not to think much of it and enjoy your drive.
