Right.

1) PRNDS (or PRNDL) is a standard format. After a few months - if you are in Reverse (R), you know you have to pull the gear lever down twice to go to drive (D) mode. Display on dash helps too for beginners.

2) The only frequently used steering wheel control is the volume button. And after sometime with the car, you just have to extend your left thumb and it will find the button.

3) Side view mirror adjust buttons are rarely used, but one sort of knows where they are.

4) Door locking/unlocking button is so frequently used that it easily falls into hand. Also, one can program the car to automatically lock/unlock.

You will always have trouble with the following -

1) Locking/unlocking windows button

2) Rolling down a particular window. On a highway trip, you will frequently need to roll down driver side window at a toll booth. Sometimes, you tend to roll down the rear windows.

Re: Honda BR-V : Official Review

I have owned and driven Zen, Toyota Corona, Totoya Mariner, Mitsubishi RVR, Pajero, Chevy Optra 1.8, Nissan Sunny, i20 & currently on BRV. I can drive only ATs as I am differently abled and have been driving since 2005. Throughout the 13 years, I never felt the need for backlighting. I started thinking when I was going through discussion on this forum about the need for them, how I managed not to miss it. Maybe it's not just on my need-list. When we warm up to the car, it's like a marriage between the car and us. We know exactly at what rev we will get the acceleration we need, exact pressure on the brake pedal needed to either slow down or stop completely, etc.
Before buying BRV, I very much wanted to buy Creta. No doubt a very good car, but I felt uncomfortable in the driver's seat. Only reason why I didn't opt for it. Next was Duster. I somehow didn't like their AMT gearbox. When I sat in the driver seat to test drive the BRV, I felt it was custom made for me. It felt so comfortable. Also the steering is absolutely heavenly-smooth and the high GC. BRV didn't have a rear parking mirror/sensor which others had. But I have always been parking my cars without one always and get a sense of distance on all 3 sides while reverse parking.

Like I had specific needs, I am sure each buyer has their own specific needs. I hope Mohan gets the car he is looking for.
Cheers everyone!

Re: Honda BR-V : Official Review

Hi, purchased my Honda BRV i-VTEC S MT today! (Carnelian Red Pearl colour)

Superb & practical vehicle. Have a 1 yr old child. So wanted some more flexibility than Renault Duster which was holding well for the past 5 years. Bought BRV to meet the daily requirements 4 adults & 1 child (& his pram + toys + other stuff). Should also help in occasional highway trips with 6 adults & child.

Yes, damping really really helps!

Coming from my 2011 Honda City, I found the BR-V equally noisy when cruising on the highways around 100kmph...and most of it is road noise. So, I ordered 2 bulk packs of Dampmat Exceed (10 sheets each of 4sqft per pack) and did a complete damping of the floor, wheel wells and all five doors. And what a difference this has made! The process is a bit tedious and time taking, but the results are totally worth it.

Total cost involved was 21.6k for the product and 6k for the application.

Honda City 1.5 iVTEC vs Honda BRV 1.5 iVTEC 0 to 150 kmph acceleration test

Looks like BRV is about a second slower to 100 kmph and 2 seconds slower to 150 kmph

That's probably because of the (comparably) lower power to weight ratio of the BR-V, thanks to the additional weight. Still are very decent numbers in my opinion.

If only they had launched a special edition WR-V with this 1.5L iVTEC, I would probably have written an ownership review by now .

Re: Honda BR-V : Official Review

What do you think about CVT if added to the starting stalls. Youtube shows it to be about 2+ secs slower (0-100) which makes me wonder that if there's no rpm loss in CVT (inherently) then why it is a laggard? Any reliable info on comparing manual vs CVT dash?

Right. BRV weighs 120 kgs more than Honda City. Also, at higher speeds, I'm sure wind resistance has something to do with difference in acceleration. Honda City cuts through wind like an arrow.

Between manual and CVT, there is an additional 1 second delay to 100 kmph. Based on Autocar India data, the entire 1 second delay is because of slow start. Between 60 kmph and 100 kmph, CVT variant keeps pace with the manual variant.

Succinct & very well put - it's indeed like a marriage! With today's frenetic life-style & the buy-&-discard-every-couple-of-years principle, cars too have acquired the worn-out gloves status!
So I found your post very refreshing. We love our 14-yr old Scorpio & get heart-burn at the thought that we will probably have to let it go soon - however reluctantly.

Re: Honda BR-V : Official Review

It was two months too many for my family and our pet (he wasn’t behaving like his enthusiastic best) stuck in concrete jungle and the usual humdrum routine of life was becoming unbearable; when impromptu early last week without leave approval, I booked a resort in Kullu (picturing the drive and unwinding in my head). But the excitement was short lived as the proceedings of next day unraveled busier days ahead.

But soon enough a window of procrastination offered respite and I was tapping the laptop keys frantically to figure out getaway options. For some reason, I decided not to go towards Kullu as I had already ‘ticked’ that destination few times. We needed fresher air, some place new, tarmac not driven on and scenes not seen before. Snow capped mountains in the month April, temperatures in 10-25 C range, perfect.

Now, the ‘pet friendly’ filter on hotel booking sites drastically reduces accommodation options; so, from the ones available, ‘POPs resort’ (between Dharamshala and Palampur in HP) showed up on map secluded away from noisy Shimla or Kullu. Having checked a few reviews for safety and basics, went ahead with the booking. You must empathize with pet lovers that destination is chosen where the accommodation is available & affordable rather than choosing destination of interest first. But then the company of pet dog is fun; laziness is thrown out of the window with early AM whines and tail wags. And if it’s an over-enthusiastic young Labrador like mine, you get to jog. The command of ‘slow’, ‘wait’, ‘stop’ fall on dog’s deaf ears. After initial grumpiness, life feels blessed to observe sunrise and beautiful scenes that come into light with it.

Here, meet 'Charlie' a name given by my daughter from 'Charlie and Lola' cartoon characters.
Honda BR-V : Official Review-img_20180414_091655.jpg

Journey: From Faridabad (NCR) it’s about 525kms one way and BRV clocked total of 1150 kms with overall FE of 14.5 kmpl. Started from home at 5ish and reached resort at around 330 PM with 1 break. An hour or so lost as we ended up at another spot despite taking help of both Google & mapymyindia in Alpine. We covered the tourist attractions in a day and started back on Sunday AM. On the return it took 9.5 hrs, thanks to it being Sunday and the fact that we were coming down the hills.

Incident: The side plastic claddings saved the car from significant damage caused by a state transport bus when both the vehicles were sharing a narrow road (at crawling speed) in a market area. I was able to find a quick second to close in the RVM but feared worst for the RHS rear door, handle and brake light assembly.
Honda BR-V : Official Review-img_20180414_094916.jpg
Upon checking I realized the plastic cladding protrudes and is flexible in that it can be pressed inwards and that’s what saved dents/scratches on the door. Good work Honda. Concluding, it was just being in the wrong place and the wrong time

Incline Challenges: This needs to be called out, I hadn’t experience this. While going to Tibetan temple in Mcleod-Gunj, BRV had to make hair pin bends of 45 to 60 degree incline. Yes, not exaggerating. I’d never seen such either in South or North India so far. Since I had no clue of what was coming ahead, I was obviously on the left side and turned the wheel counter clockwise and when the curve showed itself, the front wheel slipped, and I realized it can’t be done being on the left. I had to reverse and then drove towards left from the extreme RHS making use lesser incline. From the next curve onward, S mode engaged, BRV made easy work of remaining many curves. Just before the inclines to Mcleodganj and after the incident with the bus. Showing view of Dharamshala city.

Hello wangdu, it's always pleasant meeting another dog-lover, particularly one who takes his pets along on the journey.

If you intend to pursue this happy pastime, you can try out the KMVN establishments in the Kumaon region of Uttaranchal. They are all pet friendly and we have been taking along our boxers for the past two decades.

Re: Honda BR-V : Official Review

I went to Dakshin Honda dealership couple of weekends ago (weekend before election), and was happy to hear that there's a 70K discount being offered on BR-V.

Is anyone aware of refresh plans from Honda for the BR-V?
