There are a few ways to know when a battery is failing. Observe the cabin lights. If they dim too much or flicker, its a good sign battery is failing. In the Crysta, the crank time should be less than a second. Anything more than that, it could be an indication of battery dying (or the starter motor failing, but that is rare).

I quite agree with your observation.

Start of the month i visited Prayagraj-varanasi and travelled around in a Innova Crysta for almost 3 days and 300kms out of which i sat in the 3rd row with my kids for almost 200kms and absolutely loved it, for some reasons 3rd row felt quite cosy to me. for reference i am almost 6ft and hardly faced any discomfort.

Its for a reason the Innova has no competition.

50k kms done! Nothing at all to report. Supremely comfortable and does the job magnificently well. Truly an irreplaceable vehicle. Some pics and the service receipt for reference.

Re: Toyota Innova Crysta : Official Review

I had a chance to travel in third row of lovely crysta in Jan 2021 travelling to Junagadh for pilgrimage. I was accompanied by the luggage of 5 around me. Had prepared my mind for a cramped journey, more stop overs but it proved to be a good / manageable experience for a 5.10 ft heighted fellow for two days.

I was sceptical and hence preferred to gulp an anti vomiting tablet just to avoid motion sickness since it’s now ages I have sat so long and deep in a private vehicle. The leg room was manageable after adjusting the middle captain seat.
Also we shifted small luggage to create more space to move around. I also got chance to extend my leg through the gaps of captain seats and it worked wonders.

Basically it’s a manageable third row in real time.

Toyota knows it and has delivered it again and again.

Thanks for sharing another unique review Vigsom sir.

Cheers

Never got to own an Innova. But whenever I sat in it, it felt like a couch at home. The comfort is truly unmatched.

Thanks for sharing.

We (family of five) have done quite a few cross-country road trips in our Crysta (Pune - Statue of Unity, Pune - Varanasi, Pune - Rameshwaram), and my father echoes the sentiment regarding the third row! Of all the remaining seats, he's quick to take that up, comfortable and spacious! The large windows help in ensuring you don't feel claustrophobic, there's individual vents and cup holders, and especially on the middle row captain seat variant, you can extend your legs in between the two captain seats.

Your observations are spot on, i have travelled quite frequently in 3rd row of both Crysta and Hycross, and I would say that Crysta 3rd row is much better than Hycross's due to its large window area, higher seating and just better seat cushioning.
Since we got Hycross I sometimes prefer sitting alone in the 3rd row rather than sitting tightly with 2 in the second row.

Hey Sankar,

I’m an avid reader and follower of this Crysta review thread and it’s been amazing knowledge even after owning a pre owned 2016 2.8 Z AT from Apr 2024 ! So much of content ! And tyres adds another level I know 16 “ vs 17” experienced also. lol

You guys - Amal, audioholic, and many to name
Really has put an enormous experience of using the Crysta. I had been a sedan guy till then though we (dad mostly use) still have an 2011 Innova just run 86 k km.

Anyway a detailed post on me and my journey for another thread will add.

At many times I’m like felt to ask so many questions till this TRD gear knob I jumped into.
Probably can catch up for my few queries
But my immediate request is where did you source the original TRD Japan gear knobs.
Liked it

I searched and got into ebay ; not sure of link works. I have a close friend who is in Japan now for an on-site work. Can he get it.

If you feel free can I DM you as enthusiast in me keeps popping out so now my reads all are in Crysta !!

Regards
Prsn

If i don't use my car (4th year now) for a week, then the next time we start, it will take a longer 1st crank or 2nd crank to get started. Is this also a sign of battery getting worse?

Do not think so. Just connect a multimeter to the battery.

If the voltage drops below 9.5V at the time of cranking, it indicates a depleted battery. Other possible causes include a faulty starter motor or outside temperature.

Re: Timing Belt Change: Should I also get the tensioners & pulleys replaced?

My colleague's- Innova 2017 Diesel has done 2,6 Lac Km and the dealership has suggested changing the Timing Chain. Approximately 55 K expense. Is it ok and what components should we get changed?

At the time of 40k service, SA mentioned it as 9.5V, stock batteries will last only for 2 years and surprised to hear that. Does no. of years matter or usage matter? I agree that for tyres, no. of years matter irrespective of being put to use or not.

A well-maintained battery will typically last 3-4 years, however if the battery is used infrequently, its life will shorten (clock, keyless entry, natural discharge, ecm power etc.,).

I practice this: when I park at EOD, run the engine to around 1500 rpm for a few minutes while turning off the AC, lights, and audio to recharge the battery (fully charged). This approach produced superior results, and all my batteries lasted for four years.

That’s not necessary for a car like the Innova. Modern cars dont charge their batteries in such conditions. You will just end up wasting fuel. These cars have their engine management systems recharging battery in an intelligent manner such as while braking, only when battery SOC is below a level etc and can also vary the charging current. So if you only press accelerator and increase idle, most probably that will not make a big difference to the battery SOC.

Enquired over telephone with the dealership. This is what the SA told

Probable replacements are :
  1. Timing chain & related child parts (seals, washers etc)
  2. Chain Pads (guide)
  3. Oil service

The approximate cost would be 60k and the time frame would be 10 to 15 days. The final value may change after the engine is inspected.

Water pump may be replaced is my guess (on seeing the estimate )
