Apparently, Toyota wants people to use the DEF provided by them only which I believe is not stated anywhere specifically as part of the manual or in the extended warranty T&C .
In addition to this, I also raised a complaint regarding this to Toyota through their redressal mechanism but didn't hear anything from them as well.
Being a Toyota loyalist since the past 12 years this left a pretty bad taste in my mouth and I see Toyota's A.S.S experience going downhill with prices going uphill for both maintenance as well as cars.
Though it's been a while but thought of informing the larger forum here so that other owners can be careful and also highlight how Toyota India is not what it used to be. Note: MODS please see if this needs a separate thread so that it can reach all the right audience. |
Being a practicing advocate, I would strongly suggest you to approach your District Consumer Forum, if Toyota is not addressing your concern. Your case is strong, in my opnion, on two grounds:
(1) Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) has nothing to do with AdBlue: With the introduction of BS6, two technologies were introduced which are first, the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and second, the Diesel Particulate Filter. The purpose of SCR is to convert the harmful exhaust gases containing Nox (Nitrogen Oxides) into Nitrogen and water. The AdBlue solution which is nothing but urea is consumed in this process. The DPF, on the other hand, traps the black soot material (basically, the unburnt diesel) coming out from the exhaust and prevents it from releasing into the atmosphere. This soot is then burnt during the DPF regeneration process. AdBlue has no role in this. So, these two technologies, the DPF and the SCR, are independent of each other. So, in no way a bad AdBlue solution can damage the DPF.
2) It is not mandatory to use only Toyota's AdBlue Solution: I don't think Toyota mentions anywhere in the warranty documents that only Toyota's AdBlue solution is to used. As long as it is an AdBlue which is nothing but AUS32, there should not be a problem. AdBlue is just a trademarked term held by German Association of the Automobile Industry. There are plenty of other manufacturers who manufacture AUS32 under the licence from AdBlue. For example, Mahindra manufactures under the name of Mahindra Maximile AdBlue. Toyota cannot void your warranty solely because you have used an AUS32 solution from another brand. It is like saying that you cannot fill diesel from Indian Oil, but only allowed to fill diesel from Jio BP.
I think DPF costs around 1Lac+, there is no harm in approaching the Consumer Forum if there is no other alternative. These forums are generally pro-consumer especially against big automobile giants like Toyota. If you or your legal counsel presents your case properly, the forum will direct Toyota to replace the DPF along with compensation and costs of the litigation. |
