So I just got a few details on a new service value package they launched. Its 4+1 yrs/100k kms. They say its 5 years for the price of 4. Price quoted was around 1.05l. Not sure if that is before or including GST. It includes:

Basic Service - Oil Change, Filters, etc
Wheel alignment, balancing
AC Disinfectant
Free pickup and drop
Basic wear and tear parts coverage including –
Front Brake Discs - 1 pair
Front Brake Pads - 1 pair
Battery - 1
Wiper Blades - 2 pairs.

I'm waiting on confirmation if it includes the DSG gear oil service costs too.

What do you older owners think? Worth the cost? Would it give 5 year peace of mind?

The service cost for every 15 K KMs other than 60 K and 120 K etc., will all be in the same range. That's around 18.5 K in Bangalore. AC Disinfectant etc is just a sham. Getting the wheel balance alignment done outside costs around 1 K and better to do those in 5-10 K KMs and not every 15 K KMs.
Also, I found rear brake pads are getting worn out faster in my case.
The package would have been more worthwhile if even rear brakes are covered.

I heard that 60 K service is not covered in the package (DSG service). So, I feel there is not much that you will save if you opt for this vs paying every year. Also, Brake pads (OEM) can be installed outside with much lesser cost than what the service centre guys charge.

Re: Volkswagen Tiguan : Official Review

I did this last month in Bangalore, 3M outlet. It was a choice between venture shield (Rs 910 per square feet) vs pro series (Rs 1150), I went ahead with later one.
I have covered most of area except quarter panel, doors, roof.

Sharing few pics.

Re: Volkswagen Tiguan : Official Review

Hi,

I got it done in Bangalore from Autoprotect . The brand is Xpel and when i had checked around, i was told that this was the better brand for PPF. (900 persqft)
Autoprotect is the importer for Xpel - so went there and the installation etc was done well. I got their sun film also put (similar to CR70 of 3M)

Cheers

Did you get the entire car covered? I was thinking of leaving the roof, hood and boot.

How many sqft is the car?

Re: Volkswagen Tiguan : Official Review

Looks very nice and congratulations.

One Question though - 3M dealer in Chennai strongly advised me against going for PPF in a white color car. I also have the same white color tiguan. He said an yellowish patch forms on the car over a period of time due to heat & dust. For darker colors it is not a problem. He discouraged me to go for PPF for white color.

Did you get a similar view from 3M dealer there?

I am thinking of ceramic coat, though PPF is best protection against for minor scratches.

Re: Volkswagen Tiguan : Official Review

Hi,

I did PPF for the bonnet , bumpers, side mirrors and headlights. (Around 50-60sqft or so if I recollect right). These are areas where the chances are high for small scratches to happen which is what ppf will protect other than obviously protecting the paint on the body.

Xpel comes with a 5 year warranty as well.

Rest of the car I did ceramic coating. It's tough to maintain ceramic, but the looks are definitely a notch higher with it.

Also these guys give a maintenance stuff done post 6 months etc.

This is what was suggested by many while I was asking around and also from a budget perspective.

I contemplated on the fenders, but dropped it as I dint want any colour change between panels on the side after a year or so.. if at all.

Cheers

Re: Volkswagen Tiguan : Official Review

The new PPF are supposed to be self healing and apparently not supposed to change color etc. Self healing is to the extend of the top few micron layer remaining intact.

Ceramic gives a great look, lil more tough to maintain. In chennai, Car Cares does a great job, i had got my previous car done from there and no complaints.

Cheers!

Please call the VW helpline immediately!
They might advise you to break the quarter glass to gain access.
Hope you gain access without much drama and loss

Re: Volkswagen Tiguan : Official Review

Thank you for the quick replies! Luckily one of relatives coming, arranged the duplicate key with him! I had reached native and nothing sort of stranded on road.

Car was in locked state, my son open the boot with remote boot key pressed, and kept the key inside and closed the boot. He is just 6 year old and I regret that he learnt all this so quickly and ended with a trouble

I wish VW brings some intelligence of not locking the car by identifying the key inside the car!

Apart from this drama, good part was I enjoyed wee hours driving, and Tiguan doing great so far!

Re: Volkswagen Tiguan : Official Review

A bit off topic here.
Whenever we travel for whatever distance, I keep the duplicate key in my mom’s purse or in my messenger bag if I am driving alone.
Same for an extra set of house keys.
