I have seen in some earlier posts somewhere that Battery saver option is causing the app to go to sleep mode or something.
Try this. Navigate to Settings > Battery Saver > App Battery Saver > Settings > Show system apps > Android Auto > Select No restrictions. |
That is right. Also - please note that the battery saver/optimization needs to be disabled for all the applications that you integrate with Android Auto also. So disable it for Spotify/Prime Music etc, Sensairy, maps whatever you add into Android Auto list.
In case you have dual apps for some applications like Whatsapp/Mail/Telegram etc - Android Auto won't work and will crash like you have reported.

Rather than cashing in, I think its trying to recover from COVID19. The last 4-5 months have been really terrible for all such high-investment businesses. Certainly they have to try whatever they can to recover some of the losses suffered. The only discounts they can give would be whatever the car-makers may give directly. And those aren't coming along much either given that most of the car-makers themselves also took quite a hit.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. It did not work in my case because the cable I had was of low-speed capacity.
After some search, I ordered another cable from amazon and it solved the problem. It appears that it needs a higher grade cable if someone is switching to android 11 and with Qualcomm 765 and above. This new cable is "Type-C to Type-A 3.1 Gen 2 Cable" from AmazonBasics.
First Service Update:
So last week, I got my my first free service done for Nexon. Penning down below my experience.
The appointment
Booking an appointment was super easy. A few days after I had brought her home, I got calls from the service center team and they asked me to save their numbers and to call on them if I faced any issue, anywhere, anytime!
This was a pleasant surprise as I was NOT expecting this from TATA courtesy to the general (read as: bad) after sales service stories that have been doing rounds on public/social forums/platforms.
I also got reminder calls a week before the due date. I booked an appointment for last Saturday, and the time slot taken was 10:00 AM. This was done just one day before i.e on Friday
The lady on the other side was upfront. She clearly told me that being a Saturday, they were expecting a rush and if I wanted a same day delivery post service, it was better to book a morning slot, if available.
Once this was done, I received the usual auto messages. Additionally, I also received a call as well an hour later confirming my slot.
The SC experience
Like any patriotic Indian, I arrived half-an hour late at the SC. But despite that, my slot had been kept on hold. At the reception, my details were taken and I was told to wait in the waiting lounge.
The waiting lounge was built indeed like a mini lounge with a leather sofa set, a huge TV with a working DTH and remote, 2 hand sanitizers and a mini refrigerator as well (I guess. Well it sure looked like one).
What also blew me was the hygiene and the spot-on cleanliness. Even their washroom was hotel-spec. Something that I was NOT expecting even in my wildest dreams. xD
I bring this up because I had also visited the SC of a very famous Hyundai dealer here in BLR and their washroom was literally like a "Sulabh"/public toilet.
I had almost started to make myself at home when within 5 minutes, my rep walked in and informed me that they were ready to take in my car. Keep in mind that this was a rush hour and I was expecting at least a 30 mins delay by the looks of it and also for the fact that I had arrived late.
He asked me how the car was preforming and whether or not it had any issues or if I had any issues with it :P He also asked me if I felt that car was up to the mark or not and If I WAS HAPPY with it or not. This statement alone was enough for me to understand the kind of effort TATA is putting into rebranding itself and it's after sales/customer service division.
Post this, he told me what they were going to cover/check in the first service and a sanitization charge of INR 200 that would be applicable. He would also check for a software upgrade if available for the car and the infotainment system.
I was told to collect her by 4 PM. I initially thought of staying there and monitoring the first service, but since it was just 11 AM and there were other cars already in line, I thought it was best to come home. It should be noted that the SC folks and my rep were completely ok with me staying back and monitoring/witnessing the service of my vehicle.
Anyway, I received a message that the service was done at around 3 PM itself. I reached the SC at around 4 and there she was, looking as new as she'll ever be. The waxing and polishing was done after my arrival. But why? Because they were waiting for me to inspect the car, if everything was up to the mark or not and nothing needs to be re-done. Only after I gave them the green light, they waxed and polished the car from outside.
Such was the level of commitment from the entire after sales team. My rep also told me to directly call him a day before and then come in the next day for the 2nd free service. He'll have everything arranged for me.
Before leaving, I was also asked to fill a feedback form. TATA indeed is listening to its customers and is doing everything they can to improve their service quality and experience.
I ended up paying INR 170 instead of 200 after the discount. My Dominar 400 had costed more than this in the 1st free service xD
Important points
Service center: Key Motors Service Center, JP Nagar
Cost of 1st free service: INR 170
1st service actionables: General checkup of the vehicle, oil level checks, software/firmware upgrade if available, stain/paint mark removal if any (I had a paint mark below the rear right fog light housing from when my car accidentally brushed with a lamp post, which was removed free of cost), sanitization, waxing and polishing.
To all the new Nexon owners, get your infotainment software re-flashed if an upgrade is not available. It will greatly improve the sound quality. I only realized the difference once I got it back from the SC. The output was at another level. Not that it wasn't great previously, but this new output post the flash is something else. And I would have never noticed the difference if it weren't for my rep who re-flashed/reset it as the upgrade was not available.
To be honest, I always felt that the output was slightly less/different from the display car that I had tested. But since it was months back, I thought that it could be due to a different equalizer setting or volume level.
Attaching some pics below.
Just checked with the SA, the INR 31K towards has the following add-ons:
- Zero Depreciation
- Return to Invoice
- Consumables
- Engine Protection
for which I think it is fairly priced.
Have Ordered a bunch of stuff from Amazon. Essential car care products and a dash-cam.
Genuine Accessory Brochure
Will go for the Seat Cover, 3D Mats and Mud Flaps. They seem to be costly compared to the aftermarket stuff available, but they come with a 2-Year warranty.

Congrats on your Nexon mate. Which variant is it? D/P? Can you share the service intervals for your variant?

Man i can't stop drooling over your car, the only eyesore i had with nexon was the humanity lines in different shades and that being fixed, your car looks absolutely beautiful!
The dual tone shade, evoque inspired front looks, diamond cut alloys, to me the car is the best looking csuv in the segment, and the top notch safety makes the car a perfect product. Please keep on posting the pictures, it makes me happy. stupid:
P. S. You seriously need to put a "nazar ka teeka" on your car, to protect her from my jealous eyes!
Had a wonderful drive to Hotel Ahura and then to Bordi yesterday. Nexon crossed 1k kms. clap: Will go for the 1st service this weekend.
NH48 is just superb. Traffic was also light. There were many trucks, occupying all the lanes, but it was easy enough to weave through them. The amt led to a very leisurely drive. Driving with a light foot got me to 50-60kmph and then to 80-90kmph quite easily, although not instantly. With this light traffic I didn't face any issues, however a few times I had to wait for overtaking as cars in other lanes were zipping along much faster. I switched to sports mode for a short while and this mostly solved the problem, but I soon switched back to city mode as I was in no hurry. I think driving in manual mode would entirely solve this problem, as it holds the gears till over 3500rpm and this 1.2 turbo has more than enough power to zip through.
I tried eco mode as well. Cruising along at 90-95 works fine. If you need to slow down, then building the speed back up takes noticeably more time than city mode. Has anyone tested eco mode properly to see if there is a clear increase in FE to make up for the lesser performance?
About the ride quality. The highway is just excellent. I got to drive on beautiful single lane roads while on the way to Bordi. Few spots had some potholes and uneven speed breakers. All these were swallowed up whole without any fuss. I mostly stayed below 100 all the way, just touched 120 a few times. The car felt solid and steady the whole time. Engine noise was not noticible. Road/tyre noise was faintly heard, specially when comparing tar to concrete. I'm on Bridgestone Turanza. Increasing the music volume solved this easily.
The only point where my ancient esteem did better was while taking sweeping turns at speed on the highway. In the esteem, I used to be at a lower speed - usually around 60-70. In the nexon I was above 80, but inspite of this difference I remember feeling a lot more confident in the esteem. A couple of times yesterday I just couldn't hold the curve and had to either slow down or adjust the steering, or both. I didn't try this after a couple of failed attempts. Does a sedan's low CoG make such a big difference? Also, is this one reason for so many incidents of SUVs and CSUVs toppling over? Safer and more powerful cars + inexperienced drivers?
Other points - Nexon is very spacious, but the storage spaces are not planned out properly. No seat pockets means my can of air freshener spray goes in the door pocket, where it keeps rattling. I want to get a small dustbin but don't know where to keep it. The mobile is kept on the tambour door so I haven't used that space yet. Android Auto is very finicky so I prefer not to touch the mobile once it's connected. It did hang a couple of times in the morning. The usual disconnect-connect again routine seemed to work. While returning, it got bored, and told me it'll connect only if I park the car and try again. I switched to FM instead.
Closing thoughts - can't wait for my next drive! :D
I honestly think that with the Nexon firmly in the bag with respect to the public sentiment and acceptance, TML should come out with a Nexon+ or a proper 4.3 metre version, with higher boot capacity. This would give them some wiggle room in terms of pricing to launch the Harrier AWD, and the maybe the Gravitas would be redundant.

Thank you so much. It is XZA+ (O)- Petrol.
The first service interval is 1 month or 1k Kms. 2nd service is 6 months or every 7-8K Kms (whichever comes first). I'll have to check for the 3rd service onwards. lol:

Haha, thank you so much. She definitely make me smile every time I see her. I honestly feel that the 2020 Nexon's road presence is far more superior than any other C-SUV. It sure turns heads in traffic or even while on the move :D
I know that this isn't quite possible. But still thought of trying my luck here...
Is there a way we can have the infotainment screen show us two separate views like one half for navigation and the other for music or maybe driver rear-view monitor?
The KIAs and Hyundai have it. I think this would greatly increase the usability and would definitely be a welcome change. lol:

How much would you really be able to see in a 7" screen? In split screen - both will be dangerously small to use safely while driving. The cars you mentioned have a tablet like large real estate to show these things.
Also - the Nexon head unit seems fairly slow with limited RAM (I'm guessing 1 GB, never found real information about it). I don't think a split screen would work too fine. And no - its not possible in the Nexon head unit software to split the screen with 1 part showing Android Auto and another part showing head unit OS screen.

I somehow found the Android Auto to be glitchy in my Nexon. While it works alright when I connect, I have had issues with its frequent disconnection and the navigation sometimes stops all of a sudden. It could be due to the cable getting disconnected or bent during the ride. Also, I found the AA maps navigation provided is very basic , difficult to use the keypad or voice to input a location as the screen is not very sensitive to touch.
off late, I have been using a phone holder for my navigation. Its easy to input a location and I can use the HU for playing songs via a pen drive/phone Bluetooth. As the phone is connected to HU via Bluetooth, the navigation voice guidance plays over the car speakers and I can still make and take phone calls using the HU. Also, not to mention one less cable to connect and it looks neat.
Has anyone used the Connectnext app for Nexon. This seems pretty cool with a option to control the Music, AC and many other settings wirelessly via the phone. I guess its useful if someone in the rear seat wants to have a control without disturbing the driver. :)

Yep. I have used it. It is indeed useful for the back seat occupants. The only catch is it isn't instantaneous and takes it's own sweet time to perform a task that you select in the app. I'm talking about a delay of 3-5 seconds.
It should be fixed in the near future with the release of a new software patch.
