No need to change tyres, I got Goodyear, doing good since 5 years
Get the basic accessories kit, seat covers and body cover are good quality.

Enjoy your ride.

Hi Satheesh, Congratulations for your new ride.

It really helps to buy both extended warranty and AMC, each costing about 21k?
I definitely suggest buying extended warranty without a second thought. However, I do not think Gold AMC is worth the price. Below are some of the reasons I could think of:

1. The first two services/checkups are free, and for the 3rd service, labor is free, so Gold AMC for the first year doesn't offer much value.
2. When I inquired last time, Gold AMC covered only main services, and minor services required at intervals of 6 months/7500 kms are not covered.
3. Since default warranty already covers major parts ( engine, suspension etc), Gold AMC covers only wear and tear parts like wipers, brake pads, clutch, etc., so the 21k you are spending may not be worth it in my opinion, especially for a new vehicle.

Quote:
Is P2P something in addition to the above?
P2P is stopped, only gold and silver AMC's are available now.

My 2023 model comes with Goodyear tires, and even after 20K kms, they look fine and decent. I do not think changing tires is required.

In my case, I bought side steps, 3D mats, and sun visors. I suggest you get the same. Company accessories have way better quality and come with a 2-year warranty, so I recommend getting them from Tata only.

Re: Tata Nexon : Official Review

Hello everyone,

1. I don't feel confident in taking even gentle curves on 4/6 lane highways at my usual cruise speed of 90-100kmph in Nexon. I feel the car could topple. Is it me or the car? If it is me, is there anything I should learn other than slowing down below the curve?

On a related note, what is the indication that Electronic stability program is activated in a curve?

2. The NextDrive in infotainment system displays scores after each drive on 'Safety, Efficiency, Driving'. Even on searching this forum and reading owner's manual, I could not find the basis of the score. It shows 5 for Efficiency and Safety but shows 3.8-4.5 for Driving. Only on knowing the basis of the score, I can improve myself.

Thanks in advance.

Drive cautious , and avoid curves at 100Kmph if you're not comfortable. Enjoy your stress-free ride. Personal safety is your responsibility. After driving for a long period, I've found that cruising at 60 or 80 kmph is more relaxing than driving at 100kmph with a high bpm. Apologies if this seems gyan.

Note: As you get acquainted to the car's dynamics, your confidence will grow and you'll be able to take turns faster. Drive and enjoy the new car until then

Please take it easy, you are driving dangerously, the basic instinct while driving, is to lift off your feet from C pedal and place on B, while on any curve, so you are in control of not hitting any unforeseen object, if it appears suddenly.

Like Rahul has mentioned, 60/80 is controllable speed on highways.

Re: Tata Nexon : Official Review

I think you need to take it to the authorised servicing center that you trust and have the senior engineer look at it. There definitely seems to be a problem with the wheel itself and probably the whole wheel assembly.

Any idea if you had hit a pot hold or stone or some object at high speeds at any time. That might have caused some structural issues.

It is better to get it thoroughly checked by the TATA guys themselves and once you get that done, have their own engineer do the test drive with you in the car so that you can pin point the issue if it reoccurs.

Re: Tata Nexon : Official Review

Overall the TATA service centers have some serious issues when it comes to doing proper service unless you really exert pressure on them and use some hard language. Yes. I had an issue and had to take the car to the servicing center about 4 times and then i left the car there and told them that i am not taking the car back unless the issue is resolved to my satisfaction. They resolved it in just a few hours and got back to me by evening and I found the issue to be resolved. So there is some problem with them in general and you need to handle them in a different way.

As for the battery, my car just like that failed to start when i was in the middle of no where and somehow got it push started with the help of passerby. Took it back to service center and they told that the battery is dead. This happened "exactly after 2 years" which is the warranty on the battery that comes with the car. Even the battery shop guy repeated the same stating that the car battery that comes with the car fails after two years . But what was surprising is the fact that there was no indication or warning of any kind and this failure happening in the middle of nowhere on some interior road was a shocker.

I changed over an Exide which provides 5 years of warranty. The car is fine now.

Hello everyone, I have been an avid and silent reader of the forum for the last five years. Thanks to all the BHPians who helped me in making many decisions over these years through their contributions here. Looking forward to more threads on this journey. Writing this story has always beein on my mind. Going ahead with the quote Better late than never.

Timing:

Cut to November, 2019, my brother’s marriage got fixed for May, 2020 (yes, we didn't anticipate the covid outbreak). Since we wanted to buy a car before his wedding, we started research on which one to buy.
What we we’re looking for:
  • Safety - Since most of our usage would be confined to highways, this has been our top priority.
  • Top End - Since we’re new to this, we didn't want to get duped in the aftermarket accessories stuff.
  • Petrol - Because of all those things we heard growing up that Diesel engines are high maintenance, Daily/Frequent usage is required, cannot leave car aside for days and all that . Realized very late that none of that applies to current modern cars.
  • Good headspace - Both my brother and I are around 6’1 tall.
  • Budget - Under 12 lakhs on road in Bangalore.
With a very limited knowledge that we had at that time, few exclusions were made from the cars we initially considered.
  • All maruti cars considering safety. (Regretted this exclusion later because of S-cross)
  • Sedans - Low ground clearance owing to Bangalore potholes and illegal speed breakers.
  • Xuv 300 - couldn't get a test drive despite multiple showroom visits and follow ups.
  • Hyundai i20 - I drove this car a lot. Thanks to self drive companies. Leg space was a bit of an issue.
  • Ford Ecosport - Superior build quality, great engine and ford reliability. But heard news that ford might leave india soon
  • Tata Nexon - Loved the interiors, good ground clearance. TASS is one point we’re concerned.

Final shortlist came down to i20, Ecosport and Nexon. Since there was more time for the wedding, we’re taking this process slow. Every year we go to our native Tuni, Andhra Pradesh during Sankranti. Usually we book tickets well in advance but that time, we forgot about it completely. During the first week of December when we realized this and checked for the tickets, BLR to VTZ flights were costing around 24,000 INR two way for two people. With a fuel price of Rs76 per liter and 1900 Kms, if we go by car, it costs around Rs10,000. And then the bug to get the car before Sankranti itself started. Since we haven’t finalized the car yet then, we checked with multiple people about these three cars and 10 out of 10 people advised us not to go towards the Tata Nexon. After three days of deep converations with multiple people on online reviews, we went ahead with our gut feeling and booked the Tata Nexon XZ+variant. Did the PDI on 24th Dec’19 using the Team BHP checklist. After posting the delivery pictures in family and friends groups, we’re bombarded with one question. Why TATA? We ourselves didn’t know the answer. We just felt it the moment we sat in the car.

Booking Experience, Delivery and Ownership:

Booked the car through Kropex Domlur initially but then moved the booking to Prerana, BTM as we're getting better discount on few accessories. We've taken insurance from outside as the dealer could not match that price. Sales guy Anil was very helpful in this entire process. He kept us in loop each time there was any development. Bought the car for 11lakhs on road Bangalore.
PDI was done at their stockyard before disbursing the full amount. Took the delivery on 4th of Jan’20 while the car is of Dec’19 make. Within a few days, as planned we went to our native on Car for the festival. First long drive went very smooth. Fasttag was really helpful in those long queues at toll gates. All happy faces at home looking at our first car.

Tata Nexon : Official Review-delivery.jpg

By the time I started writing this thread, it’s been 3 years, 11 months and 21 days since our purchase
We did multiple trips during this time.
Tuni - Bangalore 3 times.
Post Lockdown, as we’re in our native there were many Hyderabad - Rajahmundry - Tuni - Lambasingi - Vanajangi - Araku - Vizag trips.
And then once we’re back to Bangalore, Coorg, Madurai, Wayanad and multiple ones.
We’ve completed almost 43000 Kms so far in the last ~4 years. I'm jotting down the things i liked, didn't like and my learnings so far.

Things we didn't like but somehow managed:
  • Faulty Infotainment System. Frequent issues with AA/Carplay. Complained to TASS multiple times but no use.
  • Despite it being the top varient, features like Cruise Control and tilt steering adjustment were not there.
  • Very bad fuel efficiency. In Bangalore traffic, car gives less than 8kmpl but the MID shows 8kmpl only (realised this very late that the MID reading is set at minimum of 8kmpl and it wouldn't go beyond that). In highway, the maximum we got was around 14kmpl.
  • Hard clutch. Many of my friends who own Nexon also felt the same. My knees do hurt in bad traffic sometimes.
  • And the main one, the Tata after sales service. Multiple followups and visits were needed to clear even a minute niggle.

Things we liked:
  • Build quality. Never felt unsafe while driving high speeds.
  • There is a bit of initial turbo lag but the car picks up well post that.
  • Super Audio quality with Harman 4 speakers and 4 tweeters.
  • Very premium interiors.
  • High ground clearance. Took the car through fields in our native. Also, never faced any problem with our illegal speed brakers.

Things we learnt as a first time buyer:
  • Visit multiple dealers of same brand car. keep negotiating for discounts/accessories. Do not hesitate to ask for one more test drive.
  • Do a thorough PDI before disbursing the complete amout. Checkout the TeamBHP PDI checklist.
  • Insurance from outside is always cheaper than the one quoted by your delaler. See if that can be matched or compensated in any other way.
  • Get a PPF around the door handles. This prevents the involuntary scratches from your nails.
  • If there is a liquid spilled under your new car, it is more likely water from AC. We went into a panic mode thinking it is Engine Oil leak
  • No car is perfect. Each has its own Pros and Cons. Rather than thinking of buying a perfect car, buy the one that fits your requirements the most. This is one thing I tell my friends who are in the market for buying a car.

And below additions were done to the car.
  • Sensairy TPMS for four wheels from Madhu’s-Felt this is very needed and useful feature. Spoke with Sensairy folks directly and got it installed at Madhu's. Again thanks to TBHP.
  • 3M floor mats-8k purchase but worth the money. Dust settles in the bottom of the mats and keeps the surface clean.
  • 70mai dashcam-Purchased through Online.
  • Ambient Lighting set up.
  • Upgraded the stock low beam to HIDs. Not so great upgrade. 6000K light is not that great in rain and fog. Learnt about 4200K Vs 6000K differences only later. I wish I had done more research around this.
  • Multiple car wash shampoos and cleansing products.

And a dump from the past.
Here's a picture of my brother washing the car in our native during our first trip.

With the increased awareness on safety, all those people who asked why Tata are looking to buy a Tata vehicle now. We're just ahead. Although TASS is still a hit or miss, wishing for many more miles and memories ahead. And I still turn back and look at the car after parking it. The day I don't do it is the day I sell it.

PS: The share price of Tata Motors when we bought the car was around 80Rs. And now it is at 811Rs. Thank god, No finfluencers existed then on social media that we're aware of.

Re: Tata Nexon : Official Review

Hello everyone,
It's been 18 months since I got my 2022 model Nexon (petrol, manual), and driving about 21k kms has been a positive experience. It is my first car. I had estimated a monthly mileage of no more than 500 kilometers before making the purchase, but I have been proven wrong

I've noticed a unique behavior when I start the car after leaving it idle for a few days—it feels like a totally different car, running super smooth with minimal engine noise and a seamless clutch. Unfortunately, this sensation only lasts for the first 10 kms or so before returning to the usual performance. Any insights on why this happens or tips for maintaining that initial smoothness would be appreciated.

There are some wireless adapter like carlinkit which can be used. Many times AA disconnect because loose connection of connecting cable.

You can install 4200k bulbs. by the way i am also using 6000K LED bulbs and compared to high beam, low beam helps in foggy conditions.

from the photos, it looks like you have maintained car really well.

i found just opposite in nexon diesel. Till engine warm up, noise will be more and after that it feels smooth and responsive.

Yes, I concur with your experience, after driving a Nexon diesel extensively. However, the car has very crude clutch input. It always manages to jerk after releasing the clutch during a gear change.

Re: Tata Nexon : Official Review

I had a glass chip on the front windshield of my Nexon while traveling on the Mysore Expressway last week. The chip is located in the upper portion, approximately 3-4 inches below the top on the driver's side. Currently, it is not causing any visibility issues. The chip has remained small, and there are no cracks.

I am deliberating between replacing the glass and repairing it. Will opting for the repair route impact safety? I have HDFC ERGO insurance with zero depreciation coverage.

Another question is if I change the glass can I get this done with any windshield specialist (like Windshield Expert or similar) vs the Tata Service centers?

Asking here instead of the windshield thread as I wanted opinions from Nexon experts/owners given Nexon's higher safety rating.

Attaching the photo of the chip.

Tata uses top of the line Saint Gobain glass for all its vehicles, you can see the name at the corner. Don't risk this utmost safety feature.

Get it changed at the TASS.

Re: Tata Nexon : Official Review

For those in north Bangalore, Emm Emm motors in Horamavu is a TASS that has been very reliable and providing top notch service for my Safari Dicor 2.2 earlier and now my Hexa. They have been able to secure spares when others have given up, even ordering a windshield when I called from Hyderabad, kept ready for installation when I reached Bangalore.

I will definitely recommend.them.

As with any service centre you need to cultivate a relationship with the SAs.
