In city at average speed 25-30 km/h it is 5 or 6 km/lit, the moment the average speed is 50 is touches 8,9 ,10 kms/lit ..on highways til speed 100 kms/h mileage comes upto 12-13 km/lit. It a lot to do with throttling behavior and allowing the turbo to kick in. I have observed the best way to adapt is to change the display setting to mileage rather than speed so one realizes when how the throttle and turbo respond. It took me 2-3 weeks to get tunes to it, as used to drive a naturally aspirated Manual behavior this.

I was also in the same boat for a very long time and had looked at a lot of alternatives and options but trust me when I say this. nothing came close to the experience of Compass Petrol AT as an overall package at the price point.
I thinks the complaints on the DCT’s, no dual clutch transmission is perfect and Jeep is no different. What we see or hear complaints are very minimal and I think it is worth taking a chance for the experience it has to offer.
The compass feel laggy or underpowered (as so many people say it) only when you drive it back to back after the diesel automatic. Other wise, its very good. As time progresses, one would learn to tame the horses and extract the maximum.

Go with Compass only if you are 100% sure (not because Creta or something else has a longer waiting period)

Compass Petrol AT owners, I am test-driving a pre-loved Limited Edition Petrol AT 2018 that has done less than 10K Kms tomorrow. I have gleaned through the forums, but would love to hear if you have any specific advice for me.

What should I look out for specifically?

PS: I already have the service records with me and all services were done on time and see quite normal.

10k kms in 3 years is as good as new. You are lucky to get such a low running vehicle, which is also very under-rated i believe. Check for -

1) Suspension, as Jeeps are usually taken through bad terrain.
2) Battery- Compass batteries usually run out in 2 years
3) Insurance claims if any

You may also want to upgrade the halogen projectors to xenons, and change the OE Firestones post purchase. Ensure that you have extended warranty, and you are set

Had the test drive today and the car impresses.

The suspensions were pretty good. Coming from Duster (I drive a Duster AMT currently), it did not feel like an upgrade . But I think that is to do with extraordinary suspension quality of Duster. The drive felt sturdy, smooth and effortless.

Thanks for the suggestion on Battery and Insurance. I will get these checked.

The car does not have an extended warranty. I checked that the extended warranty lasts for 5 years from the date of purchase. So if I am able to purchase it myself, it would mean buying it for 1.5 years. Not sure if it is worth it, especially considering the low running till now. Views?

I test drove a 2019 Limited Plus petrol AT today. This is the first time I have driven a Compass. My impressions -

The car feels heavy. It was parked in the basement of a mall, at first I barely pressed the accelerator, the way I am used to in my Ford Aspire. The Jeep didn't even move on the incline. I had to press way more for it to get going. I don't know if it was this particular unit or all Jeeps are the same.

No cruise control. This was a deal breaker for me. It would have cost close to 25 L OTR in 2019. How can it no have cruise control?

Panoramic sunroof is massive. Loved it.

Adjustable lumbar support - you can do it on a car seat? Wow! It's going to make long drives so much more comfortable.

Other things that I liked - seat adjustment memory, height and comfort of rear seats, commanding driving position, overall premiumness.

I managed a fuel economy of 11.5 as per the MID in the typical Mumbai traffic and my usual driving style. Pretty much what I get on my Aspire.

After the test drive, when I drove my Aspire back, it felt much more nimble and quick. The incline gave me a feeling that the engine might be slightly under-powered.

I didn't know there was a separate thread dedicated to Petrol AT . I purchased a Brilliant Black Petrol AT Longitude variant this week. It offers an excellent combination of power and convenience. I think prior to the facelift, the petrol AT was offered in the highest variant only and hence not many people would have purchased it. Therefore, there were not many references to prospective buyers except for feedback from test drives. Hope this improves with time.

Hey could you share details about the mileage you're getting, and what are your typical driving conditions?

I haven't really driven it in peak Bangalore traffic yet. I have taken it on drives in the morning inside the city and I have got 7kmpl. I recently drove to the Bangalore airport and it gave me 12-13kmpl (90-100 speed). I'll put out more details after I cross at least 500 kms as I will have better data.

What I did not mind - 8" infotainment screen instead of 10" (in higher models) as to me, the visual difference was not much (personal opinion only), or the 3.5" instrument cluster instead of 7" or up (higher models).

Background
I have driven Maruti 800 STD (my father had one, I got another later - both petrols; it was years that I drove them since 1994, till around 2003. Then I got a Tata Indica DLS (Diesel), which I drove for another 6 years. In between I was in the US where I drove a number of cars that included (US versions, in case these cars came to India) Ford Escort, GMC Envoy, Pontiac Grand AM (all out two-door sports coupe), Toyota Corolla, Honda Accord, a few pickup trucks as well as vans!

Back in India, I got a Maruti SX4 ZXI (2009 petrol), which has been my workhorse for 13 long years! It was a charm driving it, always. Wanted to change the car once maintenance including tires took toll and it was already quite a number of years with it by now (that itch!).

Choosing the vehicle
I was split on choosing either petrol (have loved it for so long, given maintenance issues in my diesel Indica earlier) or diesel (given the grunt as per TBhp reviews), and between manual (so far so long) and automatic (my knees at times show wear and tear). Celica Automobiles is the only dealer in Kolkata. However, they have been super responsive. Vishal Gupta in sales has been a charm.

I initially wanted to get the Sport Petrol MT, however they informed me that Jeep is discontinuing Sport MT (both in petrol and diesel) and Longitude versions. Later while asked why Jeep had retained the models in their online website, they said that it was a marketing tactic to retain the lowest prices (read Sport) and range (read, Longitude) there for sometime to attract customers.

Did test drives for both diesel manual (Limited) and petrol automatic (Model S). The dealership was very responsive; they were at my home within an hour of calling for a test drive. Diesel grunt was there, but that throb was something I still did not like (personal opinion only). Petrol was good except for the initial pickup as has already been covered; but I can live with it for another reason - my wife. She always complains on me driving too fast or in overtaking mode. This petrol was so sedate that my wife loved it. By the time it takes picking up speed, she cannot feel the acceleration inside the cabin.

So we settled for the petrol automatic, and brilliant white color. The color is vastly improved from the pre-facelift white (rather, off white). We had driven cars in blue, red, black, steel/ silver, and this time we wanted white as it also "looked" big.

Dealership experience and delivery
Celica was super responsive as I earlier mentioned. When the car came, they readily accommodated my request for PDI at the workshop, which is also their stockyard. During delivery at the showroom (Park Street, Kolkata), the experience was excellent. Included a cake cutting and usual photo shoot. They gave around 8 lt. of petrol to get started, for which I definitely had to land up at the nearest fuel station. TBhp was all along the way with the reviews, PDI checklists and what not!

The OTR came to Rs. 22.7 lakhs approx. after the April price increase and a small discount due to Mar '22 manufacture. Included ex-showroom, taxes, accessories (only floor mats and mud flaps), insurance (tad higher, but had negotiated; I prefer to get my new car insurance from the dealer to ensure the details are fine, and I get the right servicing in case something happens in the very first year).

The delivery demo was given in detail by the Vishal, with all papers explained meticulously. The paper owner's manual was given, however, found that the online softcopy was much more detailed. He has been a pretty thorough and accommodative guy all along the sales process, with no hurries or hard sales push exhibited.

I got the seat covers, steering cover and dashboard idol from Glix, Salt Lake. It took around 4 hours. The experience at Glix was equally great, and this has been quite recommended by TBhp members. All came at around Rs. 16K.

Driving till now

Only once did I get a 'service transmission' warning; restarting the engine helped (as per owner's manual) to get rid of it. Thereafter, it has not recurred, touch wood.

Hi Guys

I own a Compass Limited AT petrol manufactured in 2021. Took the delivery of the vehicle in Dec. No gripes excepting for the uconnect system

The Uconnect system was able to connect to my iphone initially. I enabled Apple carplay and it worked well. Once i switch of the engine, move away from the vehicle and then come back after say about 30 mts, the Uconnect system refuses to recognize the iphone. I have to go to my iphone - click on forget uconnect and then restart the process. This is using the wireless service

I contacted the service advisor and got the system upgraded to Ver 41 (i think) and the iphone also is updated to the current version. Even after this the same issue persists.

Any clues on what could be wrong and any fixes on the same.

Hello, I own a compass for 1.5 yrs and have had multiple interactions with service folks. (PDI at Electronic City. 1st service, mud flaps installation & minor body work on rear bumper, dashcam installation and 2nd paid service at Yashwantpur)
My experience has been very good at the service center and people are pretty friendly. I even tested their patience with a lot of questions and discussions while my car gets the work done (I stay in the place and not leave my car) and they are alright about it.
I suggest the way to check is to personally visit your nearest service center and observe the people getting their cars serviced. If possible, make a conversation with them and the service folks. Most of the guys owning FCA cars are guys like us who love to share experiences. So it’s easier to strike a conversation.
Luckily we have multiple service center options in Bangalore to choose from.
