Re: 2018 Ford EcoSport Facelift 1.5L Petrol : Official Review

I have now completed about a week on my EcoSport and have clocked close to 700 Kms.

I love every aspect of the car apart from the below:
  1. No mute button on steering wheel
  2. No auto door lock. Even cars costing half the money have it
  3. Exact 2 sec gap between paddles being actuated and actual gear change
  4. The A-pillar blocks out a substantial part of the road
  5. The reverse camera guide lines have a mind of their own. Come on sometimes and disappear at other times
  6. The brilliant Sync 3 system begs for better speakers
  7. Need brighter low beams

I was thinking of upgrading both high and low beams to Philips X-tremeVision Plus, however the halogen bulbs in the low beam projectors are 65W H18 type .

As per a google, they are around 1700 lumens (roughly 15% more than X-tremeVision Plus H7's at 1500 lm), rendering the upgrade useless.

Would it be possible to install 4300K HID bulbs in the halogen lens assembly?

Much needed during Indian summers especially on the highway trips. Is this Ford accessory or from local shops? How much did it cost? Is it available online? Will we get into trouble with the traffic police if we use it in the cities?

Sorry for the long list of questions, I am also planning to get this.

Heat

Hey, so the kid bro finally went ahead and got the new Ecosport T+ Automatic, a few days ago. Blue.

And the first problem has already cropped up. The first drive we took, we got her back home from Delhi, a drive of about a 100 kms. We stopped around mid way and just out of some misplaced curiosity, I'm really not even sure why, I checked if the tyres had heated up, and also touched the alloys. The left front wheel (alloy) was hot, like really hot, which felt weird. I didn't think too much of it but we did make a note. After reaching home I checked again, and this time I could smell something almost burning.

The car, which had barely done 150kms was taken to Ford the next day and they changed the brake pads. No bueno. They said that they'd take the car back the next day, get Ford involved and do a proper diagnostic. That was yesterday. They said that Ford told them to bleed the brakes, and that everything should work alright now. We'll be taking another longish drive today to see if everything indeed was alright.

Any idea on what might've caused this? Anyone faced this already, and knows a proper solution?

I've been using it in my previous cars since 2 years now. I have not had an issue with the cops yet in Mumbai. I've heard that cops in Bangalore tear off the net.

I got it from Amazon for 850. Here's the link.

Disheartening to see something like this happening to a brand new car. First the battery draining out issues reported by some BHPians and now this. Every time I hear something like this, I get a sinking feeling in my stomach as I have also booked the T+ AT.

Ford, please don't mess up my dream car!

Congratulations Anupam. The Diamond White looks smashing! Wish you many happy miles with the beauty.

One point, which might help some of the BHPians with their booking. Always bargain with your dealer to match the quote you are getting from outside. Tell them you would prefer taking the insurance from the dealer, but if and only if they match the deal. Trust me, they will give you a good deal if you are persistent. I was quoted the same absurd, more than 50K for insurance. I showed them the quote from HDFC Ergo ~ 25K, and bargained for a few days. They came back with a quote of 26K.

This is helpful. Thank you Suku! Does it really help in summers? I haven't used one till now, so want to get an informed opinion on this.

I feel you. I am also patiently waiting for my Titanium + Diesel. Issues like this are disheartening, and unacceptable.

The new Ecosport is going strong, but issues like this will bring down the good faith it has managed to generate. Don't screw this up Ford, you can't afford to.

Just my opinion. I was 99.99 percent sure of buying the Ford ecosport petrol 1.5. Last minute my friend newly purchased this vehicle told me he is getting 5 kmpl mileage. Changed my mind and booked nexon. I do not regret this and am very happy. I would strongly suggest people to not opt for the petrol engine in the ecosport.

I am using the 1.5 AT for over a year now and the worst mileage that I have got is 9. Depends on your riding style. If you are really aggressive where you stomp on the accelerator after a red signal, then yes a mileage of 5 is possible, else I dont think its that bad. The only issue with this vehicle is the gear box in traffic conditions, else this is a great car and dont regret buying it.

Glad you are getting good mileage. Let us wait for the other new face lift petrol owners to come back with mileage numbers.

Review of the new EcoSport Storm by Webmotors, most probably a Brazilian automotive channel. Couldn't understand a word but the car looks mind-blowingly awesome!

Its got the big, bold and black STORM logo on the the grill and on the spare wheel cover, black stripes on the hood and on the sides and other black highlights all over. Orange accents inside with red stitching on the steering wheel and seats. Sunroof and 4WD. And that big colored MID which we all sorely miss in the Indian version.

Being a BHPian, I hope you got to the bottom of why your friend is claiming only 5kmpl. Did your friend check his mileage properly? Tank full method? 5 kmpl in very heavy start stop traffic is achievable for a short period, but over a full tank that too for a 1.5 na petrol is unthinkable, I think only the v8 mustang gives that much mileage

Hope there is a logical explanation for that before anyone says don't buy a particular model of a manufacturer!
Many people here are claiming respectable mileage figures from their 1.5 EcoSport, maybe your friends car has a major issue.

Many BHPians have already reported decent mileage figures for their facelifted EcoSport with the 1.5 Dragon petrol engine -

1) blurust has reported 17.5 on the highway and hills for his AT

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...ml#post4333864

2) praveennvr has reported 9-11 in city, 18 on highway and 14 in mixed conditions for his AT

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...ml#post4337976

You can check the above thread for other owners' mileage numbers as well. Many of the members had bought the facelifted EcoSport before the official review was out and they had shared their experiences and observations in that thread. I don't remember anyone reporting mileage as low as 5!

Strange not possible. Definitely your friend checked mileage for a short stint after filling fuel or resetting trip meter. I have seen as low as 2 or 3 in mid but it will settle down to 8-9 kmpl after several kms. Btw mine is 3.2 endeavour definitely a fuel guzzler. For all other reasons there is some fault which need to be addressed.

I think the friend wanted to protect his uniqueness in owning the new ecosport 5kmpl is too low, unless there is a hole to the petrol tank as well.
