Re: Mahindra XUV500 Petrol Automatic : Official Review

Fuel cap clearly specifies its diet. Nevertheless, be careful at petrol pumps as the attendants will automatically assume that an XUV500 = diesel
This is what I had in mind too. An XUV petrol owner would probably have to get down from his car, go the pump attendant and yell in his ears that its a petrol car, lest he fills the wrong fuel.

As expected, the XUV500 Petrol has bombed. From IndianAutosBlog:

(Since launch,) we have sold 45 petrol XUV500, which is available easily, but everybody wants diesel.
I think Goenka is too quick in blaming the market. The product / engine itself is very mediocre.

I don't blame the paying customer.

Costing as much as the W9 MT diesel and missing essential features compared to that variant (no sunroof, no Ecosense and no reversing camera even!), the petrol never had much going for it, specially in our price & resale sensitive market.

Add to that this big, heavy SUV being powered by a strictly average engine and that too paired to an AT transmission - the "kitna deti hai" populace won't even bother to touch this petrol, even with a barge pole.

The place where the camera used to be housed is now covered with a blank! Why Mahindra? Especially when there is only one petrol model in the line-up. In a large SUV, the rear view camera is a must for easier as well as safer parking. Far cheaper hatchbacks get a reversing camera as standard today!
IMHO, title projectors are useless. Instead Mahindra should have concentrated on providing rear parking camera as a default. Also sunroof should have been an option. Hope we can see them in the next variant soon based on the user feedback.

While it may seem as an okay deal, they are just plain ripping us off. Their own home country where they make the volumes? Mahindra, why should I buy your product if you can't even give us proper variants? And now they have completely eliminated AWD. Thar sales cannibalization or they just hate AWD (like Maruti)? Well, whatever floats your boat. I'll get something else.
