Re: Mahindra Marazzo : Official Review

I am writing this only on the basis of what I have read on teambhp and seen on youtube reviews...

Nissan Kicks will, roughly, be in the same price bracket as the Marrazzo and I sincerely feel that the marrazzo is a superior product!

Can somebody, who has experienced both these products, confirm my thoughts?

Kudos to Mahindra and Tata for giving us such amazing alternatives to foreign products!

In my humble opinion you cannot just compare 2 cars only because they fall under same price bracket.

An SUV is usually a better looker with capabilities to venture difficult terrain and supplemented by enough power. An MUV meets it primary objective if it transports 6+ people comfortably. It may not be that fun to drive, precise handling but does need a compliant ride. By this logic Marazzo is a very capable MUV, where my family would enjoy long drive with smile on face with a roominess of a suite in a premium hotel and with many bells and whistles to pamper.

However, I have driven the Marazzo, and I can attest to its cabin noise refinement levels. The car feels very nice and quiet inside.
Just go though the posts on the 2018 Ertiga thread itself. Lot of people have pointed out they can hear the outside world clearly even with the windows shut.

Re: Mahindra Marazzo : Official Review

Finally brought the Shimmering Silver Marazzo M8 yesterday. It looks prettier than I expected and definitely more macho than the Crysta. Well, one doesn't expect an MUV to be macho, so where it won the heart is the comfort and ease of driving. More after running the car for 1000 kilometers to support buying decision of aspirants over here.

Congratulations on the Silver Marazzo, it looks dashing . Please do share your initial driving experience and price breakdown.

My father is currently contemplating between Marazzo and Crysta, both have their pros and cons, but I am bending more towards Marazzo, specially M6 variant. For me it makes more sense than Crysta, due to aggressive pricing, impressive design and great value for money.

Even if price is no criteria, a Marazzo is a competitive car.

If you want an automatic, there is Crysta only, with around twice as big engine as of Marazzo, higher power output and unquestionable reliability. Don't even think twice. Fuel efficiency will be little less though.

If manual may do, nothing better than Marazzo with very easy and comfortable drive (clutch, steering, sound insulation) with little bit lesser boot space. I feel one with captain seats are just fantastic with wider hand-rest compared to Crysta. You will also get novelty with less no of Marazzo on the roads.

M6 is a good choice.

Re: Mahindra Marazzo : Official Review

I booked the Marazzo M8 last week. Here is the story.

Though I was desiring the Jeep Compass (or Creta top-end variant as a cheaper option), my dad was rooting for a 7 seater to replace our Ertiga. Since this car would primarily be used by him, and that this was going to be the "big car" of the family, I had to give in. Now our options were the Hexa XM+, Innova Crysta 2.4 V and Marazzo M8. We were looking for the manual variants as dad gets chauffeured to work (which is mainly a highway trip) and more than 50% of the driving over its lifecycle will be done by the chauffeur. Besides we already have a hatchback which we use for traffic-driving in the city.

We test drove all 3 cars back to back and extensively tested out the middle and last row seats as well before coming to a conclusion. Some points:

1) Hexa XM+: The manual gearbox of the Tata Hexa is a pathetic one.Gear shifts are not precise and are very rubbery. The TD car was brand new (had less 500km on the odo), so this couldn’t have been an issue of badly treated or badly maintained car. It was very clumsy to use in city conditions. The car also had more vibrations than the other two. Also found the power delivery to be slow at low RPMs. The steering is also a bit on the heavier side for city driving and overall the car feels too bulky.

2) Hexa XTA: We rejected the XM+ due to the above observations and put the XTA (auto gearbox) into consideration (XM or XMA have some missing features which I was not ready to accept). My friend owns an XTA and we took it for a spin and came back mighty impressed. The gearbox issue of the XM+ doesn’t matter here, the auto box is great, the vibrations were lesser. But the bulkiness of the car was still a problem in city conditions. You will always be reminded of the sheer weight of this car will driving it in the city (even the auto variant) and we did not want that for the occasions when one of us is driving this car. The pluses of the Hexa were its superb ride quality (reminded me of the ride quality of the BMW X1), its SUV-ish brute looks and the menacing road presence, and its auto gearbox. But that was not enough to keep the Hexa in contention. It also lost out on Fuel Efficiency and 3rd row space and comfort, ease of getting in and out of the car.

3) Innova Cysta 2.4V: So that left the Innova Crysta 2.4 V and Marazzo M8. Space wise the Marazzo and Innova were neck-to-neck. In we fact we found the Marazzo to be more comfortable overall across the three rows as compared to the Innova. The highway ride quality of the Innova isn’t as great as the Hexa or even the Marazzo. And there is the sidewards movement in the ride which is typical of a tall body-on-frame vehicle. Apart from this there is not much to find faults in the Innova. Interiors feel premium, features are adequate, space is adequate, seating comfort is good, NVH levels are acceptable, ease of entry is acceptable (lower floorboard than the Hexa), power is sufficient and the driving ease in city is better than the Hexa.

4) Marazzo M8 Hits: The most striking thing about the Marazzo when you drive it the first time, especially after the Hexa and Innova are its NVH levels. It actually feels “Silent as a shark, Smooth as a shark”. Class-leading NVH levels for sure. Add to that the light steering, the smooth shifting gearbox and light clutch and this car is very easy to live with in the city. Certainly a big plus. The power delivery is good and the car did not feel underpowered on the highway either. The interior space and comfort is as good as that of the Innova Crysta. The seats are very comfortable and there is enough space for 6 adults (only captain seats in M8) to sit comfortably. The second row sunblinds are a great touch. The captain seats are very comfortable. The diffuse feature in rear AC is great. The rear AC is not simply a blower but has its own compressor I guess. So you have an option of only keeping the rear AC on and the front AC switched off when being chauffeured (this is great for cabbies too). Ease of access is great due to its lower floorboard as compared to the other two. My grandparents would love that. Access to back row with a one touch tumble down is very easy. The low boot space is a botheration only if you travel with 6 passengers and their luggage of more than one weekend. If its just 6 passengers + luggage for a Saturday night away from town, the Marazzo has you covered. Other than the lack of more airbags, safety wise this car is acceptable – all 4 disc breaks, ABS and EBD and best part – a 4 star Global NCAP rating which none its competitors can boast of. You also get Android Auto and Apple Carplay which again none of its competitors can boast of.

5) Marazzo M8 Misses: The top end variant does have some missing features like keyless entry and start-stop button (not essentials for me), side and curtain airbags (but even the Innova 2.4 V did not have them, so I did not have a choice here), auto-dimming IRVM (shocking in a 16.5 lakh car), auto wipers and auto headlamps (would have loved to have them but can live without them), ESP and traction control. But when you consider the Rs. 5 lakh price difference between this car and Innova 2.4 V, you start getting comfortable with these misses. The Marazzo is also very low on boot space as compared to the Innova with all rows up, but then you have to live with that. Also, a bench seat option on the M8 should have been there and we would have considered it if it was about as comfortable as the captain seats are. I even added the extended warranty in the end after reading the recommendation of some Distinguished BHPians here.

So after considering all the pros and cons of each car, and considering the huge price difference between the Marazzo and Innova we decided to go for the Marazzo. The Innova was always a stretch for our budget and it is in fact too expensive when you see it against the Marazzo’s light, which does most of the things as good as the Innova, and some things even better than the Innova. The Innova has its strengths over the Marazzo but I could not see myself stretching my budget by that much for. It might have been a different result if we had started out with a budget of 22 or 25 lakhs, but that is for another time. For now I am eagerly waiting for the delivery of our Shark

In the end an Excellent review, as usual, from Team BHP! No one can come close to the kind of details you guys get into. Thank you for this.

Re: Mahindra Marazzo : Official Review

Congratulations to all who are materially and emotionally invested in Marazzo. Though already leading by huge margins right from start date of the polling, now the Marazzo has been formally announced as the Team-BHP Car of the Year 2018.

Re: Mahindra Marazzo : Official Review

Looking to bookthe Marazzo and confused between this and the New Ertiga.

Buying it for sole purpose of long drives , but have been reading comments like it is a not easy to drive on hills due to lack of low end torque.
Has anyone taken in to hills like Ooty where there are numerous hairpin bends. How will it perform will full load on such roads?

Re: Mahindra Marazzo : Official Review

Two updates:

First & foremost: One guy from Mahindra called and asked for my ownership experience. When I told him that I found some issues with car driving manners, he assured me of quick help. In half an hour a call from local service centre came and the person tried to know and clarify the issues. After that they sought my appointment, and they were at my home on time to assist me. It was clearly a customer delight for the way they patiently responded to the quoted issue as well as many other queries. Also, the person who called me for feedback is my personal contact for any issue

Second: Drove 400+ kilometers from Jamshedpur to Bhubaneshwar. Some observations:

1. Started at around 5 in the morning, when it was dark. The head-light clarity was spot on.
2. Outside temperature was ~ 9 deg Celsius. The AC in auto-mode worked perfectly.
3. I didn't miss the accuracy of my Fabia steering, however a little bit of body-roll which is quite expected from a bulky car. But not as enthusiastic in pulling like the 1.6.
4. Ride was supple. No one complained any tiredness after 6+ hours of drive with few small breaks.
5. Notorious bumps at railway-crossings were tackled smoothly.
6. Overtaking was not an issue, even in 6th gear. However, I cautiously did most of them in 5th gear.
7. Used both AndroidAuto and Marazzo native map. I liked the latter more in comparison to Google maps.
8. Beyond 100 kmph the system generates alarm. I drove most of the time at around 100 to 120 kmph with 4 adults and 2 children on board with boot fully occupied.
9. I achieved economy of around 15 kmpl for the journey. Tyre pressure kept at 35 psi (normal air).
10. At sudden jerks the vehicle emergency lights start blinking for few seconds.

I bought this car primarily for passengers' comfort which seems to be achieved and moreover the driver also is quite satisfied. Bingo Marazzo.

On the hairpin bends of Ooty, all small displacement turbo charged diesels suffer from lag and the Marazzo is no exception. You need to keep the engine in the power band before the turn to be happy.

It's a matter of practice, don't worry.

With the rear AC on, its not going to be uncomfortably hot for the cabbie in front in most situations. Cabbies sometimes switch off the primary AC even with passengers riding, to save fuel. They do not mind this. They will switch it back on only when the passenger complains of discomfort. Seen this with inter city cabbies as well as Ola / Ubers sometimes. WRT Marazzo, of course it is going to be the cabbie's choice in the end if to switch off the front AC or not, who is going to force them?
As with private car driver, as an example, my own family driver shuts off both vents close to him when the AC is on, or points them away from himself. Seen the same with many other drivers. So this will give them flexibility of simply switching off the front AC. Again the control is in the driver's hand and he will do what he prefers.

Could you please elaborate on the issue that you faced with the driving manners of the car and what solution Mahindra gave you? I would be particularly interested as I am about to welcome a Marazzo in my family. Thanks in advance!

While driving for first 100 kms, I found car stopping all of a sudden while driving in 2nd/3rd gears at lower speeds. It reminded me of 'stalling' issue indicated in the official review. Interestingly when the service specialists came it never happened even when I left the car in second gear without pressing the accelerator. However, the service people advised me to maintain a minimum rpm and a little bit of experience with the car driving will further help. It actually did and in my 700 kms run it never did. Once it stopped I found I slotted in the higher gear with creeping speed.

In short, you may have to work little more with gear changing at lower speeds which is just a question of getting used to a different car. Otherwise the car is fantastic to drive in higher gears and the gear indicator works practically for new drivers. Trust me, you can go ahead if you want a smooth manual MPV which is highly comfortable for all occupants in any seat.

After returning from Puri I'll again give more updates.
