*** Hyundai Venue 2020 - User Experience Review ***
Hello BHPians,
Thanks to all contribution posts here on Team BHP which really helped me in my choice for selecting Hyundai Venue as my next car. I loved my Verna 2013 model but was a little upset with its low ground clearance so my next ride had to be a sub 4m SUV and as many of us here I was confused too with the available choices i.e. Brezza, Ecosport, Nexon and Venue.
After reading the reviews and looking at the awesome pics shared by fellow BHPians i shortlisted 2020 model Brezza and Venue. Visited a few showrooms, compared each model's pricing per features, discounts, comfort etc. and shortlisted recently launched Venue S+ model within 3 weeks of my search. Asked for a quotation from 4 different dealers in DELHI NCR and honestly unlike others here who got a whooping 30-35k discount, the best i could grab was a 10k reduction + exchange of my beloved Verna. The prices for Venue have further increased by 7k in October 2020. Overall I'm satisfied with my quick buy as i had to make it before the Hindu Shraddh week. This was also the reason i did not wait for the Kia Sonet (i loved it looks and feature package) to arrive for fellow BHPian to review!
So finally purchased my first "mini SUV" on 28th Aug 2020 and waited for a few city and highway rides before I come down here to post a review and thank my friends @ Team BHP. Due to WFH I have only managed to drive 1200 km in the last 2 months but these have been enough for me to post the pros & cons of this car. Some of these may be my personal opinion and I would sincerely apologize in advance if someone disagrees.
EXTERIOR: Overall the car is nicely crafted like a traditional SUV specially the front design with the large cascading grille which is more robust than the rear (which kind of looks like a hatchback as most have already suggested). The chrome finished plus-shaped pattern on the grille looks quite classy (though difficult to clean the dust out LOL). I had 6 color variants to choose from but i overall preferred Polar White which is a neutral and most sold color in our country
The auto projector headlamp cluster is surrounded by LED DRLs which gives Venue S+ a distinct look even in bright daylight to make anyone jealous of your prized possession. Projector fog lamps are first in this segment and compliments the front design very well. Turn indicators on ORVMs, shark fin antenna add to the grace. The prominent bulges for the wheel arches with 15-inch steel wheels made this model look boring. The next higher model had 16-inch diamond cut alloys and sun-roof but i didn't want to spend an additional lakh rupees for these so discussed about product warranty and got a set of 15-inch alloy installed on the same day after delivery from a reputed shop in my neighborhood (showroom was charging a huge amount for a non-Hyundai brand alloy). FYI - Hyundai brand alloys are not sold separately by showrooms. Dealer confirmed warranty is not void if tyre size is unchanged.
BEFORE and AFTER pics attached below to show how alloys changed the overall look of the car:
The LED tail lamps are attractive, clear, big enough on a safety perspective and looks quite handsome. Though reviews say the Venue looks a bit smaller than the competition even with the overall height which is the lowest in this category, its width is not the smallest and takes a bit more parking space than my previous Verna.
INTERIOR: The Venue’s cabin is simple yet solid, at least much impressive than the Brezza. In terms of the design of the dashboard, the material quality used or the storage spaces the cabin has been very well thought out to balance the feel good factor and cost. The silver accent finish on the interior plastic with the upraised infotainment screen looks premium. 1-litre bottle holders in all four doors, a shelf on the lower dash area for phone storage are awesome. The seats are well designed and comfortable (not be compared to a deep bucket like sedan seats). Fixed front central armrest is not too long but good enough. The extensive use of black color in the cabin makes it look very compact initially however i would see if i could get some complimenting light colored seat covers next month to make a difference. A 350-litre boot space is wide enough for plenty of luggage. Dedicated USB charger at both front and rear is very helpful.
Height-adjustable driver’s seat, Auto AC, rear adjustable headrest, electrically folding ORVMs are comfort plus points. Air-purifier comes with the models above S+ to improve in-cabin air quality. The 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is superb on this one. The screen is 09/10 in terms of graphics, usability and responsiveness. With a 6-speaker sound system (2 tweeters + 4 speakers) the sound is good enough but not too loud. LCD multi-information display could have been better. Auto-dimming IRVM is not an option on this model as well (i miss that from my Verna). Kudos to steering mounted audio controls on this model with touch screen player. Along with electric sunroof the higher models have wireless charging, passive keyless entry as well as push-button start etc.
PERFORMANCE: Overall the 1.2 litre engine is good enough for highways however i feel a lag during idle pickups within the city. But once it picks up speed there are no complaints! The engine is nicely tuned (after my heavy diesel experience) and there are no vibrations during the drives.
SAFETY: It has dual airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts. Rear parking camera on this model was my selection criteria. The cornering lamp functionality is another feather to it's cap! Rear parking sensors, impact and speed sensing auto door lock, front seatbelt reminders (slight annoying) and speed alert are good additional features.
PROS: Nicely priced for car with a good looking on-road presence. All the good features explained above are the PROs to me.
CONS: Most reviews highlighted the limited rear legroom space which i agree somewhat. Even my family mentioned the same (specially after a sedan experience with Verna) however it's manageable and not too bad with a family of 3-4. Rear seat armrest could have been a standard fitment. Only one electronic remote key and one normal key on this model. A separate cabin light at the front was essential but missing. Bluetooth disconnects itself within seconds over WhatsApp call. Even with the Air recirculation mode (i.e. AC recirculating the air inside the vehicle for cooling) the outside odour enter the cabin (this was never a problem with my Verna). To confirm the settings are ok I tried the fresh air mode to bring in outside air into the car and back... same issue. This cabin sealing issue could also be the reason why there is higher noise from outside entering the cabin on road.
If anyone has any suggestions/solutions/thoughts to the Bluetooth over WhatsApp, Cabin ventilation issues, please share.
Overall i love the car and I'm confident Hyundai has ensured that the Venue tempts the sub-4 meter SUV buyers to ignore the competition. However as always there is still room for improvement for which I even sent a feedback email to Hyundai India design team in September and haven't heard anything back only the dealership jumped in to offer apologies and silly excuses! Venue is overall a good combination of design, features and price with 3-year unlimited kilometer warranty should help most make a decision they want. Luckily Hyundai Venue was the Top Selling Sub-4M SUV In August 2020 to Beats Vitara Brezza (
https://gaadiwaadi.com/hyundai-venue...vitara-brezza/). This month and Sonet and Brezza have surpassed it's sales though.
