The 'S' mode stands for 'Sequential' mode and not 'Sport' mode. It is called sequential because it changes gear without the ability to skip intermediate gears. i.e, you can't go from 1 to 3 without engaging 2nd.

Hi anandpadhye sir,
As per my understanding, seltos air purifier comes with HEPA filter and not with ionizer.
(I was looking into this feature, when I was in market for a new car, and Seltos was one of the contender)

Can't re confirm you, since I don't own a Seltos myself.
But, below links might come to your use as a reference.

" If there is a fast vehicle ahead and your overtaking window is narrow, you can shift to “S” mode by moving the gear shifter to the right. S mode is a little more aggressive and should be used when you're in an enthusiastic mood. Although, don't get us wrong = the Diesel AT is quick enough, but not F-A-S-T.*"

Thank you for the clarification
I was thinking on the lines of P, R, N, D and then this S

the above quoted point in the first page of this thread has me still confused about this .Once we move the shift lever to right , the car still stays in automatic mode. So does this slotting make any difference to the car's acceleration behaviour even if it's not called the Sports mode ? The review suggests it makes the car move ahead aggressively when it's slotted to right.

If these two shift lever positions are one and the same , has this been done for safety purposes in the event of unintentional shifting of lever to right?

Thanks once again.

I too own a seltos - D - AT . I learned from this thread that there exists a sports mode for my car though i've been using it's manual mode from day one. Now one query to the fellow Seltos owners here .

I'm not feeling much difference( or any) in power between the auto mode and sports mode. The car's response is the same in both modes I feel. Is there anything I'm missing out in enabling the sports mode I wonder

And there's no mention of sports mode for diesel auto box in the car's manual. As mentioned in the official report , there's no marking of S in the shift lever either but how can a manufacturer miss out mentioning such a salient feature in the car

Appreciate your response. thanks

"S" mode does stand for sports mode as detailed in the Kia Seltos owners manual & not sequential mode

The manual does have details of the "S" mode in page 283 for Diesel auto

Attaching the pdf manual here for your reference

Though there's no mention of the mileage dropping or power increasing if we engage "S" mode. But i found that max gear that you can shift to depends on your speed. For eg, in my IVT, If I'm driving at 40 or 50, i can go upto 4th or 5th gear but not more than that while if I'm driving at 80, i can go upto 8th gear

I found out the availability of sports mode in my first test drive itself while the salesman had no clue of it

In my IVT, engaging the sports mode gives me 8 manual gears to play with while it gives only 6 & 7 manual gears in the diesel & DCT models respectively. Here too the service advisor was not aware of 8 manual gears in IVT. He said that there are only 6 gears in IVT

I am not sure about Diesel AT since I haven't driven it yet but I have a petrol GTX+ DCT in which the behavior is totally different in normal D mode Vs you shift to Right from D position. The moment you shift it from normal D Mode to the Right which is indicated with "S" on console, the RPM goes high about 800 or so compared to normal mode D and you can definitely feel the change in behavior and is more aggressive without even having to use + or - manually and depending upon the accelerator position it agressively upshift/downshift without waiting for user +/- inputs. However if you press + or - manually atleast once, the behavior will again change and it will try to redline on each gear while accelarating unless you manually upshift, similarly when decelerating it will wait for speed/rpm to drop to the predefined threshold unless we manually downshift.
Apart from this "S" mode there is a "SPORTS" Mode in GTX+ DCT which is selected by using a round knob near to the gear shifter. There the behavior is really aggressive and even the steering is weighted enough to give you more confidence. I am not sure if it is there for Diesel AT. Do you have it? May be it is specific to GT line only and HT line may not have it I guess

Thanks Krish for pointing this out in the manual. It's beyond doubt now that it's indeed Sports Mode ( I failed to notice that header in the manual , in fact on page 284 ).By the way I'm referring to diesel automatic only. Guess what it does in this mode is, by design it delays the up shifting thereby taps more power aggressively in each gear that makes the car surge ahead. Whereas in normal automatic mode it's made to up shift as early as it can(depending on speed )and is more conservative.

Very rarely i've used this mode and hence did not quite pay attention to any change in up shifting pattern. I use the + and - instead. However will keep a close watch next time around.A long journey is round the corner.

This is a very interesting find. I remember that you had mentioned this once before.

I always thought that this mode is only to do manual shifts. Yesterday after reading the manual I tried the sports mode (it clearly says in the manual that it is sports mode and it manages driving dynamics by adjusting steering effort and transmission logic for enhanced performance. Page 302)
I gave it a try and I was pleasantly surprised.
The throttle response became more responsive. Even if we do not use the manual shifter, it gives a sportier automatic experience (as sporty as a CVT can be). It is mostly pushing up the RPM for a certain demand and holding the ratio for a longer duration before upshifting.
I felt the steering became lighter but I am not sure if it is more placebo than a real change. I did all these in Bangalore conditions and I have to try it on a more open road another time.
The manual says that fuel efficiency might decrease but I did not find a significant change in the MID figure)

Re: Kia Seltos : Official Review

hi Seltosians, I have a serious query on the braking of the Seltos. Have any of you noticed that while going over a rough patch, and you brake hard, do you hear a juddering sound from the front wheels. I had a feeling that it was the ABS kicking in but I have driven ABS installed cars earlier on the same rough patches, but never felt the same. There are no alerts or warning signs, but this juddering/metal scrapping sound and the vibrations can be felt through the brake pedal. I have noticed that it happens only on rough patched roads/gravel and never on tar roads.

Today I was going through a separate thread where the Hyundai owners were complaining about brake failures in their Creta. Though there are no brake failures reported in the Seltos, the juddering sound is also reported there as well. Since it is Hyundai, there could be parts in the Braking department that are being shared between KIA and Hyundai.

I am just worried that, are we looking at a trouble lurking around the corner in our Seltos which could start in future.

I am not sure if KIA personal are monitoring this thread or not however I feel this needs to be looked into from the company itself.

I face this issue on a daily basis and I have a htk model so I dont have a rear disc brake. In my case it happens on not just hard but medium intensity braking.

Sounds like an empty paint can that someone kicked.

Havent experienced loss of control though.

Re: Kia Seltos : Official Review

Hello, I am considering to buy Kia Seltos Diesel GTX+ variant. Can anyone share how Seltos Diesel Automatic performs in city traffic conditions and its real world mileage? Also, is there any AC cooling issues like it doesn't cool that faster like we expect to in humid conditions? Any mechanical issues reported, especially with the Diesel? Thanks in Advance.

I have covered close to 3200 kms and as per MID the car has been averaging 17.5 kmpl since purchase.
No AC issues as of now but it’s still somewhat cold here in North India so would have to wait for a couple more months to check how the AC performs in peak summer .

Re: Kia Seltos : Official Review

Hi - I heard today from the Sales Manager (showroom manager) at Capital KIA, Chennai - that they have stopped sourcing parts for car assembly (post delivery of car from their plant in AP - is this a thing? he said these are parts needed for assembly inside car before delivery to customer) from KIA china, and shifted to their Thai and Bali factories/vendors.
And, hence, are experiencing delays in delivery to customers.

Can someone validate this? Have any of you also heard of this as you await delivery?

I paid the 25k deposit on Jan 31 for a petrol HTK+ (gravity grey, if anyone is interested btw), after having sold my Honda city

Thanks.

I own a Diesel AT Seltos HTX + which has clocked 13000 kms so far.In B2B traffic of Bangalore it returns 11-12 kmpl with ac on.On good 4/6 lane highways, if you drive sedately ( within 2000 rpm/100 kmph ) it gives you close to 20 kmpl.i've managed to get 25 kmpl too during early morning starts on highways. By the way, these are MID figures.By tank full to tank full method it goes down by one value point.

A method one can try out to keep < 2000 rpm ( in city ) is to lift the foot momentarily between shifts just like in manual gearbox,1&2 gears especially.i've tried it and observed that my city mileage improved significantly.

Auto box tends to ( designed to ) hold onto a little more longer than it's needed in each gear ratios to ensure smooth and linear acceleration and avoid sluggishness .With practice of lifting foot we can almost dictate the up shifting at will. It's a frugal engine no doubt , it's fuel consumption depends on the driving style.

Few MID snaps for your reference, all from the same trip.

Thanks.

I dont think that is true. Apart from basic kit there is nothing that a dealer installs after the car reaches their yard. SELTOS has over 90 percent localisation. Parts disruption would equally affect the new creta as well.

What does he mean to say? That the car is only 90% ready when it reaches them and they finish the car by installiing the 10% parts to make the car drivable at dealership?

If that's what he meant then he is just preparing you for a long wait as HTK and HTK+ models are low on priority for KIA. Riding on the popularity wave their high end models are more in demand. I got my HTK+ after waiting for almost 2.5 months even when I was 1st in line for silver and 2nd in line for white. I saw my car being brought down from the trailer and driven to the yard as it was 100% drivable.

Happened to me in Spain recently. I was piloting a long wheel base V Class and following Gmaps to my hotel in the middle of the old town Seville (which I didn't know at the time). What happened later that the van just got stuck in the town centre for a couple of hours with nowhere to go and causing a massive jam. Finally a courageous driver and a police escort (clearing the cafe chairs and hawkers) in a pedestrian only area managed to get us out with a couple of scrapes on both ORVM. There were points when the van was the exact width between the old house walls and it required one to drive through these at speed, so as not to risk getting stuck in between!

That is one experience that none of us in the van will ever forget!
