Aparently the harrier warranty on their factory fitted battery is only 1 year 6 months as per the Tata service centre.
What brand/ model did you replace with? From the service station or from outside?

Exide , from the service centre. I had no choice. The Harrier comes with a 58model Exide , the outside service centre battery shops in Mumbai only stock 54 and 56.

Do you park your vehicle in the sun?

Battery is sensitive to heat, some more than others and we have seen this earlier with another BHPian's harrier too, I suggest keeping an eye on the battery water level once in 6 months or so. They aren't maintenance free if you like to keep them for more than their warranty period.

I thought 'cold' is the enemy of the battery, and not heat. We know how batteries don't generate enough charge to start the cars in ice-n-snow environments. It has to be related to the 'mobility' or 'entropy' of the ions inside, shouldn't it ? When a car runs in scorching summer with a hot engine less than a feet away, the battery is expected and designed to work; hence I'm not sure what battery degradation you are referring to, when the car is parked in the sun.
If I am wrong, please clarify, would love to learn some hidden nuance that I am not aware of.

Depending on the make and model of car batteries , they may or may not survive the heat well. Likewise depending on the make and model of vehicle the heat under the bonnet is managed well or not so well , so all this can make a difference, however what can make it even worse is if you park the car in the hot sun all day.

Battery water tends to evaporate quicker if it is experiencing more heat than it is supposed to , overcharging is probably not expected on a vehicle that is new so it's probably not a concern at this point.

hot weather and battery life

Can anyone suggest a trusted tata service centre in either Hyderabad or Bangalore? Have an year old Harrier and there's a bit of steering play amongst other issues and I'm not happy with my local dealer.

Which one do you go to?

If you are in Bangalore, you can try Kropex Koramangala.

Car is based in karimnagar, under the care of drivers. Steering is pulling to the left. So i think wheel alignment needs to be done. Even otherwise, i want to take care of the car personally from now on. So I'm looking for a decent service centre to take care of now, preferably in Hyderabad.

Re: 2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review

I had earlier posted on why I bought the Harrier
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/offic...review-92.html (Tata Harrier : Official Review)

and later also an update on my experience after 1 month.

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/offic...eview-106.html (2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review)

In this post, I am updating my experience after nearly months of ownership. The vehicle has now done over 7500 kms now.

Ingress and Egress for elders: I had read a lot about the height being a disadvantage for the elders in the family. Sharing my father's observations:
It was fine for him to get in. He felt that it may be difficult for those who are older than him.
After small highway drives (Lonavala, Kashid beach), he appreciated that it is easier for him to get up from the seat in the Harrier due to the higher sitting position. Knee joints have additional pressure when sitting low (as in sedans) and one try's to get up. So Egress was more comfortable.
He appreciated the space and ride.

This makes me wonder if this (height for elders) is really an issue. P.N.- I have not installed any step.

Rough (broken) Roads: During this period I got transferred and the last leg of my journey (around 3 kms) consisted of broken under construction road with pot holes. Hence, I got to use the rough mode daily. And I must say that I felt more confident with the rough mode on this patch overtaking vehicles, whenever possible.

Comfortable for 5: We also had this opportunity of 5 of us traveling together and the rear seat was comfortable for 3 adults (including my father and a six footer son). While there is no headrest for the middle, we did find a way with our neck pillows. Also, when the central handrest was not being used by the front passengers, I was able to stretch my legs with ease.

Air conditioning: The Harrier has AC vents in the front (sides and centre) and the B pillars. This position of the AC vents on the B pillar seems better as the flow is on the upper part of the body rather than the foot. Also, it frees up leg space for the 3rd passenger in the back. Further, the middle passenger does not feel the cold Air on the legs. The cabin cools well till date.

Infotainment System: My MY22 model gets wireless AA (no wireless charging though). We tried Apple Car play wirelessly and it worked well. The 18.11 did go blank in the initial stage and then around the 6000km mark. Further, the system did hang on a few occasions.

Update: The version was updated from v18.11 to v 18.46 in the second service. It has not hung in the past 1000 kms. Also, there seems to be an improvement in Android Auto, which used to get confused at some points in the earlier version. However, the phone sound is high. I have not been able to reduce it in this version

Air Purification: The vehicle also gets an Air purifier, which is basically a better (Hepa) filter to reduce pm 2.5. In these winter months when AQI is very poor (above 300), the car makes a loud sound and displays poor condition. It tries to reduce the same and is mostly successful.

iRA App: the top model gets IRA connectivity. One can switch on the lights remotely, it also gives a driver score for each trip. It shows a provision for FE, but does not calculate the same.
IRA support mentions that the vehicle if Phase I, while FE is displayed in Phase II. But they were not able to tell when Phase II was launched or how to differentiate. Not sure of its utility.

FE: The FE has gone for a toss due to the road conditions. However, I noticed that the MID reading is around 13% off from tank to tank method in the city.

Blind Spots: The A pillar and the ORVM has a small gap that reduces the blind spot. However I would prefer them on the door rather than on the window. Apart from reducing the blind spot, it will give better visibility of the vehicles on side that are lower height(sedans, hatchbacks, autos in the night etc).

Height can also be a disadvantage in tight traffic condition. One may miss the vehicles with low height.

The fact that one can use the reverse camera while driving forward, is very useful in heavy traffic conditions.

Re: 2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review

Hello folks!

Recently my harrier XZA was serviced by TASS in Pune. This was a paid service at 30k kms on the odo. Total bill was ~27000 Rs incl taxes, which I felt was very expensive. Experts can pl help me if the right amount is charged and works done.

Now, the main point. After driving about 800kms after the service, the oil warning started to blink and hence I shared a short video with the service adviser over whatsapp to which he replies that it’s a service reminder and asks me not to worry and keep driving. At that instance, I was okay with it however even after 2 days the warning kept blinking.
Hence, I called the service center for a complaint and they sent a technician home with their OBD device. He comes and tries ti troubleshoot unsuccessfully. I simply asked him to check oil level and to my horror, the oil level is tremendously low.

With this incident, what would the forum suggest?

Some items seem to be unnecessary.
Mail this to Tata and everything should fall in place

But if a cop who pulls you over for something else and notices the sunfilms, he can ask you to remove it. Some cops may misread the law and let you by, but there is always a possibility that you run into one of those smart cops.
Yes. That's correct. When the law was introduced, my car had a film that was compliant with the 70% visibility rule. The cops fined me and still removed it.
To comment on the rule, j personally think the courts may have made a sarcastic statement that "if you can't control crimes, remove the film" and the cops promptly proceeded to do what is easier for them. The rule is frivolous and a hot country like India needs these films/heat resistant glasses to protect the occupants and reduce Air conditioning costs.

By subjecting everyone to remove the suncontrol films, the lawmakers are treating everyone like criminals even though 99% of people are innocent.

Also, there is no evidence that removal of such films has decreased the crime rate as crimes such as rapes continue to happen in auto rickshaws and in buses, tempos and also in cars without films. Moreover, some powerful people continue to enjoy the dark glasses without hindrance.

But then again, we also have compulsory seat belts in a car with 4 doors but a rickshaw can drive at 70-80 kmph with 3 wheels and no doors. Indian laws have a long way to go before they catch up with real safety and common sense.
