Great month for Thar ! Thar has also brought good time for the humble and well built XUV300, yup they shares the same price bracket.
Soon to be launched XUV700 would add another 4-5K at the least for Mahindra.

Is it a Red color by chance? Sounds like the mentioned person is me. Due to the covid situation asked them to bump up the delivery to 1st week of June and as it was also inline with my birthday.

Initial CPD was May 25th till yesterday and all of a sudden got a call this morning stating that vehicle has arrived

Happy to hear that its going to a Bhpian instead

Looks like Dispatches are getting strong even with the second wave.

Yup, I guess I am getting the car blocked for you. I guessed covid would have forced some buyers to postpone the purchase. But at the same time I was expecting there may be supply chain issues. Luckily that was not the case.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

After having lost all hope of getting my Thar anytime soon, I got a call out of the blue from VVC motors. Stating that my allotted vehicle has reached the showroom! I didn't waste any time and finished all formalities and took delivery of the beast on May 2nd.

My model - LX HT Diesel MT. I booked it last October.

A lot of people have already posted the pros and cons of the Thar, so I won't elaborate on that. All I can say is, I just love it. I have already gotten a few upgrades done. Will add more soon

Here's a list of things I've done -

1. Changed the stock grille to a seven slat one
2. Put in an overland series bumper, skid plate and roof rack.
3. Changed the stock headlights to the infamous 'wrangler LED' units. Its all show no go. Very very average throw. But I went with it anyway since it looks really cool and my next mod takes care of the serious lighting needs when needed.
4. Got Hella Ralleye Aux lights.
5. After a long and arduous search, managed to secure 4 BF Goodrich 285/60R18's in Guntur. No stock available with regular contacts in Hyderabad. Going to mount them on the stock alloys for now.
6. Leaving the audio setup untouched. It is decent enough and there's no point in complicating the electronics as I intend to take it off-road regularly.
7. Ditched the idea of fitted or fancy mats for this vehicle and went with low tech JTI rubber mats. Easy to hose off.
8.Changed the stock horns to the "jeep type" horns of the 90's for the sake of nostalgia

What is a Thar without some niggles? I think every Thar intentionally misbehaves a bit, like an unruly kid who seeks pampering and attention from a parent. Here are some I have identified so far

1. Sometimes when the Thar goes over a big pothole or a speedbump, the infotainment screen blinks and restarts. This is not happening everytime.
2. If rumble strips are taken at speed, hazard warning lights are coming on for a few seconds.
3.Bluetooth connectivity issues are present.
4. Aircon is a chiller but a strange whining noise is coming from behind the dashboard as and when the compressor cuts in. I don't know if this whining sound is normal. Need to reference it against another Thar.
5. A strange rattling noise is coming from the rear seats sporadically. Need to identify and isolate it.

Attaching some pics

Congrats, wishing you happy miles!

How is the roof rack fitted on to hard top? Does it need drilling?
Will airbag sensors work with this new bumper?

Hi Mithun,

Yes a couple of small holes need to be drilled for the installation. As for airbag sensors, the thought did cross my mind. However, I did not find any wiring or airbag sensors connected to the original stock bumper. So I assumed that the sensors and airbag system are going to remain unaffected by this change. Perhaps some of our more knowledgeable members can answer this question better.

Congrats on your Thar, and the cool mods.
Just attempted back of the envelope calculation for the add-ons.
You've already spent close to the price of a new Alto/Kwid for them, wow just wow.
Enjoy your beast.

Firstly congrats on the Thar. Looks smashingly hot with those mods.

Quick question on the roof rack. Drilling holes on the frp, does it impact warranty anyways. Also what is the load capacity of the rack?

Is there any push from the SA to buy things from them, like insurance and other stuff?. Looks like, come couple of weeks I may bug you with more and more questions. Hope I don't get blocked and do keep us posted with tons and tons of pictures of your beast.

Hey Diesel9999,
Congratulations on the beast.
Quick question, which Ralleye did you get and how's the throw? And price too.
And I suppose you got the bf goodrich tyres from ranjit tyres?
I was gonna get them from ranjit tyres, but decided to stick to the Ceats.

Lol Yes. I did get them from Ranjith tyres. So it was you on the other end!! He was telling me to hurry as there was serious competition for them

Rallye's are the 4000 series. Cost me about 18K. Throw is excellent

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

The BF Goodrich tyres are up on the Thar and they have definitely enhanced the stance! The 'wranglerification' is now more complete

Here are my initial impressions

1) Braking has definitely improved compared to the Ceat Czar's
2) Steering is slightly harder at low speeds. Pickup is more or less unaffected.
3) Not able to decide if the ride is the same or slightly stiffer. Need to drive some more to understand. Tyres are definitely quieter.
4) No fouling whatsoever with the wheel well. The 285/60R18's are a very comfortable fit on the stock alloys.

That's quite a substantial upsize from the stock setup.
Hope the added unsprung weight, and it will be quite a bit, does not cause premature wear-out of the lower arm bushes and tie-rod ends. What's the new camber and toe setting values that you are adhering to?

Stay safe & drive safe

Best,

Best,
Hi

Though it seems like a substantial upsize, the difference is only 1.3% increase in overall circumference. Attaching the picture for your reference.

So I haven't touched the camber and toe values. As for lower arm bushes and tie rod end wear and tear, we'll have to see how that goes.
