Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Congrats @pheonix and @onelivinglife for getting your delivery schedule, so we can expect a review on both MT and AT Thar Diesel. Exciting.
Correct observation @Pheonix, where are the September and October Thar sales numbers? Are not the demo and TD cars counted?

A word of CAUTION!!!
Please keep the TBHP PDI list in hand before taking delivery, as in this melee and M&M dealers over enthusiasm demo/TD Thar's could slip through, to unsuspecting owners.

Deliveries have well and truly started. Here's one from Eram Mahindra, Kozhikode - as posted by Flywheel official.

Not sure of the actual source.

However, many dealers seem to have received large stocks. Here is a Rushlane post that looks like another dealer yard -

Wow ! Great job Mahindra . These Untamed on the urban roads will further boost your bookings .

Kudos to Mahindra for going with the production ramp up instead of SOLD OUT campaign.

Had a visit to the Mahindra showroom to see the beast , but didn't get a test-drive due to the scheduled appointments for those who had already booked the SUV.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Is it just me or the vanilla Thar really looks better than the one with “eyebrows” seen above?

Edit to avoid multiple posts: AX std and AX 6 seater soft top model bookings have been closed due to unprecedented demand. It appears that Mahindra is going for higher margin models first and keeping low end for later. If my dealer is to believed, huge number of bookings have been for LX and not even AX-O so Mahindra seems to give preference to them and clear up production lines.

North east gets a large dispatch via train. (Pic credits - the spy autonews). Looks like Mahindra's claim of 500 deliveries this weekend isn't exaggerated.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

When you launch a product and then take time to reveal the prices, it must give you enough buffer to read the market and have stocks ready.
With delayed delivery and the pandemic situation forcing many to sit at home and be bombarded with advertisements of other car makers. There will be many cancellations in the coming months.

Mahindra and Tata need to learn from Kia. With Sonet the dealers literally had all variants out for test drives and spot on delivery dates confirmation(slight delays are also communicates in such a manner that it adds up to 1 month in a period of 1,1 week delays)

Mahindra had a chance to hit the market out with good products and perfect delivery experience given they had the buffer to read the market and grasp the pulse. Surely an opportunity lost in the long run.

PS: I seriously with my statement is proved wrong I want Thar and all Indian made products to be a big hit.

Looks like a lot of soft top AX variants - could this be for the Army? I do not think they will deliver so many units of the lower variants, since they have also stopped taking bookings of anything less than AX(O). I would expect them to prioritize the most profitable variants for the initial deliveries, if they behave anything like Hyundai & Kia.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Army has not ordered any Thar so far is what I know. Recently ( about year back) army had a huge contract for Safari Storme with Tata. Also most likely will go for a new contract of Gypsy with Maruti. (Unconfirmed as yet) Actually Thar won't pass muster with Army because of space available in the vehicle as they need to put certain specializes eqpt etc as also carry Atleast 4 to 6 soldiers with their luggage in war condition.

These Thars are for sale in normal channel for sure.

These definitely are for normal civilian end users.
Army ones if at all will be green and have different specs than usual, they would have black out lights etc pre installed.

I guess you have forgotten that along with Gypsies, MM550's and old CJ's used to do the duty,
so the AX version that can seat 6 will definitely be suitable for field duties like the Gypsy.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

The dealer just informed me that the accessories worth 25000 in the quotation are mandatory by Mahindra and there's nothing they can do about it.

Does any other car maker do that ? The accessories I want won't even cross ₹9000 which includes expensive rubber mats. And I'm not going to ruin the Thar's exterior by putting those hideous accessories.

This can't be true. Ask them to give this in writing. Also, try and tweet/email Mahindra directly about this.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Here is a review by a famous food vloger in Tamil. Mahindra invited him to their testing facility and gave him the opportunity to test the Thar on various tracks along with explanation of all technical aspects and capability of Thar.

A nice marketing strategy to reach a wider audience especially the non-auto enthusiast crowd.

That's yet another con played by the dealers, similar to the insurance thingy.
Please put your foot down and tell them you don't want the accessories. They are purely optional and no way can they make you take it.
Moreover the accessories they will sell you are inflated (price) and they make huge margins on them.
