My G20 330i Ownership review and First Post Before I begin, I wanted to express how happy I am to be finally posting on Team-BHP after following them and reading from here for YEARS.
Finally, it took me immense love and joy for this car to actually want to share with you all.
I have named her Alaska.
Before I talk about the car, I need you all to understand that I hated, HATED BMW with all my energy, and this changed in 2019 when the G20 330i had just come out and I ended up being the 2nd or 3rd buyer in the city.
At that time the competition was the C class, A4, and the new BMW 3 series.
Audi was Immediately disqualified simply because they did not release the new Gen in the Indian market and did not for another 1.5 years.
Between the C and the 3, I was getting an underpowered diesel C for not a very different price from the 330. Diesel is a big no for me when I'm looking for a comfortable sporty sedan.
C220d, not even 300d was for about 54-55 and 330 for about 57. This was the On-road price for Hyderabad in September ending 2019.
Yes, the 330i did not have rear seat window shades, nor did it have the rear windscreen shade where the C had them both with rear windscreen shade electrically operated. The steering adjustment was also manual in BMW as opposed to electric in the C.
Apart from this, there was nothing in the Mercedes that would push me towards the C.
The drive is simply amazing. All that power and torque behind that girthy steering definitely makes it one of the best driving experiences.
It is the First car In India that I have owned that responded appropriately to the drive mode change- for example; eco, comfort, sport, and sport plus. UNLIKE my 2021 Audi A6 where Dynamic (sport mode) is not very different from comfort or individual in terms of throttle response and steering stiffness and so on. Do not get me wrong, there is a difference but it is not that big of a difference for that price point.
Before this, I had owned a 2020 Mustang in Michigan and in India, a W212 E class- E200 CGI, a 2010 Model and No I DO NOT think that 330 is a downgrade. Only a downgrade when it comes to space but didn't we all know that already?
I had gone with my best friend Petrolgene for the BMW test drive and not even 1 km away, the discussion was settled.
Now coming to why I hated BMW, I did not like the exterior and especially hated the interior. There was nothing special or exciting as compared to what the competition was doing but with the new M sport variants and the new G series cars that are coming out since 2019, BMW has absolutely killed it.
A few months into the Ownership, I ordered a Carbon Fibre spoiler, Carbon Paddle shift extenders, Got a PPF, Dechromed the grill and Chrome bits, Blacked out the roof, and side-view mirrors, and a year later even blacked out the beautiful stock wheels. (Pics attached) The only mod that is performance-oriented was the BMC filter which may have made a difference but I did not feel it.
In the last 2 years of Owning this beauty, I used it EVERY DAY for work and for the typical Daily drive. I have faced only 2 issues in the car in the last 2 years-
1) the Steering was squeaking one year into the ownership and was fixed by steering rack replacement by BMW. Under warranty free replacement**
Because of the steering rack issue, BMW has even extended my warranty from 2 to 4 years.
2) The roof padding had shrunk and was creating a rattling sound and that too was fixed by BMW for free. CONS
Apart from the window shades and electrical steering adjustment missing,
1- Boot is small as hell. Not expected to be that small.
2- The ride is sometimes quite stiff. Yes in Eco and Comfort it is not that bad but for a luxury sedan, it sure is on the stiffer side. I honestly did not expect BMW to actually have tiny bits of the M characteristics / DNA incorporated this well in this car.
3- rear seats can be a bit cramped and I would say the rear seat space is somewhere between a Kia Sonet/Seltos.
I have used 'power' fuel since day 1 but after 6 months I realized that power in most pumps gives you the same 91 Rating Octane and then I moved on to using octane 97 which was available at selected locations and the car definitely runs a lot better. With premium fuel and a mix of fast and economic driving, I get an average mileage of about 9.5 - 10.5kmpl.
Now, after 2 years, I have stopped using the car as a daily and use it for night drives and weekend runs.
I have replaced the daily driver with the MG ZS EV (I don't understand the name but have de-badged the hell out of that car). That MG Is already getting slight upgrades that it desperately needed like headlights, a music system, and even wheels and I will definitely post about it in a separate post.
I apologize if I missed out on anything or if I have made any mistakes. This is my first Post ever, not just about cars but my first blog/post about anything in general.
Looking forward to posting a lot more and improving my posts with all your feedbacks and having discussions with all of you.
Cheers! |
