Re: Tata Altroz 1.2L Turbo-Petrol Review

Is the turbocharger a FGT or a VGT ? My guess is that it's a FGT, hence the lower output than the Nexon.

Anyway, I personally wouldn't feel shortchanged for the lower output compared to Nexon because the lower output could only matter when the car is being driven in the highest RPMs and at high speeds, so much so that the difference won't even be noticeable to me.

If the engine sound was comparable to Korean brands at idle & creeping speeds, then that's really good.

It's for the better that Tata ensured the engine output is tuned for minimalising turbo lag. This usually accounts for >75% of the time when I want power on tap, & I'm often disappointed when there's a hesitation that any lag creates at low RPM in any car (Example : Duster 110bhp, Marazzo).

Apparently, 5-Star safety & conservative engine tuning (more so because of the gearbox) has not helped in raising the hotness... It's only lukewarm IMO.
Apparently, IndianAutosBlog guys have managed even better performance than other with their fastest time being under 11 seconds to 100 kmph. The vehicle is not as slow, it is just being about warming up the car & managing wheelspin I guess.

Nope there have been no updates I think they forgot to release the price as they are too busy wishing the altroz a happy anniversary on youtube

Re: Tata Altroz 1.2L Turbo-Petrol Review

I am.thinking of booking Altroz Turbo XT i.e the base version. It has 165/80 R14 tyres.

Can I upgrade them to 195/55 R16 tyres ?

Is it possible ?

I am impressed by the performance of the Altroz. Hyundai inspite of having more power and torque on paper, is barely any faster. Infact much of the advantage in performance can be attributed to the difference in performance between manual transmission and DCT. I would argue that Altroz with the DCT would be faster by a second atleast.

Yes, Its possible. The overall diameter remains the same. And legal too. You may have to shell out minimum ~50k considering new tyres and rim though. Will that warrant an upgrade to next variant is for you to decide.

Re: Tata Altroz 1.2L Turbo-Petrol Review

The prices seem to be out on the website here but Tatas seem to have forgotten to tell it to the world.

60k premium over the NA Petrol. Excellent pricing, but what use is it if nobody knows?

Official launch/price announcement is today itself, this seem to be usual goof-up by Tata.
Rs 60K increase over NA petrol is a very good price IMO.

Price difference of 60K for XT, 75K for XZ and 60K again for XZ+. Why so?

Yes the prices are official now. The difference is actually 75k now. Notice they have hiked the prices of the NA engine variants by 15k-20k. Altroz XT petrol NA was 6.99 ex-showroom , now as per the price list is priced at 7.13 ex-showroom.

Thanks Bagheera. When you say, the diameter remains same, I am a bit confused. The R14 means 14 inch and 16 means 16 inch. How is the diameter same. Am I missing something ?

I understand the rim also has to be changed since 16 will slide over the 14 inch one.

Thanks for the update. For iturbo, the models are xt , xz , xz+. Which among the above table in their website maps to turbo models ?

How to differentiate between NA and iTurbo?

Re: Tata Altroz 1.2L Turbo-Petrol Review

And here is my friend who was sitting on the fence, and Tata motors has made his life much much harder.

Since last half an hour, we both are discussing if he shall take the Nexon XZ+ for 10.9 lac after discounts and all, or shall he go with Altroz XZ+ for 9.9-10 lac whatever the price of XZ+ comes out!

But one thing for sure, for just a lac more than Altroz iTurbo, the Nexon XZ+ is looking tremendously VFM now, it offers a lot lot more for that 1 lac IMO. I am dead sure that Nexon is definitely going to take a away a decent share of these Altroz i-Turbo customers too, but that's quite good. As one of the most famous auto business thoughts from one of the auto gurus (anyone who guesses the name right, gets an Eclairs):
"If you don't cannibalize yourself, someone else happily will"

Apt for Tata now, be it Altroz i-Turbo, or Nexon, let the customer take home a Tata!

Edit: Nexon XZ+ finalized
