Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Two questions to Safari XE owners -

1. Does the third row have USB charging ports? If yes, where?
2. What is the rating for low-beam, high-beam and DRL bulbs?

So far, ...
Continuing on this:
Was cleaning my car yesterday, so popped up the bonnet. There, I noticed a small crack on the left side DRL body. To confirm, I removed the bolt and it, actually, was broken.

  1. What could've caused it to break?
  2. Will the SC fix it?
I checked further and found that 3 washers were used with the bolt. On the right DRL, however, there is just 1 washer. Could this've exerted some undue pressure and broke it?

I cross checked this with my friend's safari, he has 2 washers on the right and 1 on the left. This seems like another inconsistency and may be the reason for that crack. Any suggestions on how to take this up with SC?

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Just tata QC things, trying to root cause "why" etc is a waste of time, because many have given up chasing such issues.

You have eagle eyes buddy. I just checked mine and the story is the same. Interestingly, they have applied grease there. So I could be a known issue to them. Harrier owners can suggest here too.

So this seems to an issue with the design engineering of the chassis.

Take it to the SC and say you noticed this broken and loose. Ask them to replace it.

Maybe it's just the assembly guys doing what they felt was "right"

Actually, it is an easy way of getting the alignment/panel/component gaps right. As these components have more than 1 mountings, and not every component is exactly identical. So these additional washer could act as spacers to get those gaps that we see on the exterior right.

Could they have potentially let to that crack?
Yes, it is possible. I'd suggest you check with ASS guys, and maybe not mention that you opened it yourselves to avoid any excuses from them.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Just an OT question here.
Is it possible to fit the ventilated seats (that come as standard) in the "gold edition" to other variants like XZA+/XZ+/XZA/XZ (as an accessory or add-on feature)?
Has anyone done it? Your feedback and experience, please.

This deserve further investigation but as Tata Motors is an interested party you won't be able to find the truth.
To my non-engineer brain it seems like some part has been manufactured outside of tolerance limits and then that defect has been adjusted using such unbalanced number of washers. Engineers on this forum may elaborate whether this is the case.

You are spot on. As I mentioned here earlier, it is a common practice.

And the culprit in this case is most likely to be the body as I don't see scope for this much error in a small plastic part of DRL. And it is very much possible that the body is also with expected limits, just towards the extreme end of it maybe.

Apart from the washer/spacer, another reason for this to happen is someone leaning onto that part of the DRL while trying to look down in the engine compartment. This part it mounted right at the top, with limited surface contact due to the washers. If someone accidentally leans onto it, it might lead to a similar crack.

My Tiago has a very similar mounting for it's headlamps. I have to be consciously careful every time I'm looking into the engine area.

.
When I raise this point in discussions that most 'Made in India' products do not match up to qaulity of imported products, some people start argueing with me and lecture me that I don't know enough and how companies like Tata & Mahindra are producing world class products.
Truth is whereas a German or a Japanese or an American product will always, by a great margin, surpass the tolerance limits of any quality or manufacturing standard, in India it will be just scraping the lower limit. And this is for top brands. For other 'local' products there is no quality control.
Top quality world class brands do not look upto BIS or EN or any such standards. They produce the best they can. They consciously innovate in materials and manufactring practices to raise the bar.
However this must be said that overall quality standards of every manufacturer has taken a hit in the last 20 years because of increased competetion due to increased globalization.
Now you can not rely 100% on German reliability or Japanese products for vfm quality and so on.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

We took the delivery of our 2021 Safari XTA+ on the 26th of October. Here are some pictures (or lack of many) from the delivery day. I will try to post a first impression and an initial ownership review soon, with lots of pictures of course.

Thank you so much, Jude300. I wish the same for you and your Sapphire!

Just went through your initial ownership review, the insights you've provided are helpful and more like a long-term ownership report . Do keep that thread updated.
