Re: Citroen C5 Aircross Review

The C5 is certainly bang for the buck if not for it’s pricing. The rear LED lights look straight out of a AMG to the untrained eye. Great pics guys!

In fact, it is one of the best riding cars that I have tested in a long time (the last was the Hexa). The French really know how to give you a comfortable ride = the Peugeot 309, Logan, Duster and now, this Citroen. The C5 Aircross offers the kind of ride quality that is simply perfect for Indian roads. Even the expressway behaviour at speed is nice and composed. Your family will be very happy doing long distance journeys in the Citroen. What further aids comfort are the excellent, supportive seats.
I do not intend to purchase any of these cars but from a purely fun fact point of view, according to all of you experts, which car has the best ride quality under all conditions - Hexa, pre-faclift Duster or Citroen. I can see that you have already rated Duster 10/10 and Citroen 8.5/10 but with Hexa thrown into this comparison what does it look like?

Pardon me, but doesn’t “bang for the buck” mean value for money or well worth the price in the first place?

In that sense, isn’t this statement an oxymoron?

Good catch! Apologies for the faux pas, you’re right. A little overpriced, but you get a great European handler.

Paid my advance booking amount, hopefully everything works well for next steps. Just those low sales concerns me whether it means increase cost if ownership however we will see.

Congrats !! You will not regret a bit on your decision once you have the vehicle and drive around.

For me, low sales mean low numbers at the service station and more attentive workforce, and the exclusivity factor. Do opt for the 5 year advance service package and your service cost will be low and advance paid. You just fill Diesel (and renew insurance each year) and drive "comfortably"

Re: Citroen C5 Aircross Review

It is not very easy to swim agains the tide. Specially when it comes to car in India. Customers are so emotional about their choice that they miss a balanced approach. Also, we have been conditioned to pay less and get more. Even if that more is not relevant in the context.

Re: Citroen C5 Aircross Review

How one close insurance topic, do we need to buy it from dealer or can we have it negotiated on our own.

Whether no claim bonus of existing vehicle, plays huge role in reducing cost of new insurance premium.

I see no comparison, my existing vehicle WDV is 233k whereas new vehicle is 3700K . Premium paid is 9k for 2023 even if it goes to third party it will mean max amount is 4-5k. New car insurance is 157k how much of it can be reduced.

NCB is a percentage off your premium, X% for every no-claim year upto max of 50%.

That % gets applied to your premium resulting in savings irrespective of premium amount or IDV of the vehicle. So for eg. if you have 50% NCB on your old vehicle insurance , you can reduce your new vehicle insurance premium by 50% post all documentation.

Re: Citroen C5 Aircross Review

Just one more query, do I need to sell my existing car to be eligible for this.
Other agent told me that they will transfer it to third party and provide differential credit for my new insurance. This make sense to me as my existing car is now in 14th year.
I do not intend to sell the existing car.

Agent is correct. Change your existing car to TP only and use the NCB on the C5.

Do note that NCB discount is only on the OD portion and not on the add-ons. Typical savings are ~10K only.

Re: Citroen C5 Aircross Review

Since I had not sold my earlier car while purchasing the C5, I was not able to transfer the NCB discount on the new car. But during this 2nd year of renewal of insurance, I was able to claim the 50% discount as seen in the (quote) image below. The 3rd party insurance is valid for 3 years, hence only own-damage insurance was renewed for this year.

Citroen C5 Aircross, 18months, 35k kms

We got home our Tijuca Blue C5 in December 21.

Key considerations were :
1. Must have a good Suspension considering that my wife and I both have vulnerable backs and the 2 XUV 5OO's that we owned from 2014 till 2021 nor the roads of Bangalore only added to our agony
2. Needs to be a Diesel given that on an average I do around 2k to 3k per month both within the city and ling trips to Kerala and Hyderabad.
3. Spacious boot to throw in everything in our weekend trips to our farm house 80kms from Bangalore
4. Should be aesthetically well designed
5. Must be a well built car. Having owned and driven 20+ various cars in the last 25 years, I was looking for a car that doesn't rattle after 50k on the odo. (PS: The cars I owned were a 1971 Ambassador (My Dad's), 1992 Premier Padmini, Tata Estate 1996, Zen 1997, Ford Escort 1997, Daewoo Matiz (Dont remember the year), Indica V2 2003, Indica Vista 2009, Ford Global Fiesta 2012, Mahindra XUV 500 2012, Mahindra XUV 2017) Fords were the worsts cars I owned and the XUV 500 , 2017 was one of the best, I still have it. The only real problem with this car being its suspension that throws you all around.

I waited for the Tucson to be launched , The Kodaiq was not available at that point in time. Was not sure of an entey level Merc or a BMW (The GLA was just launched) because for a middle class family a luxury brand comes with its own obligations and I didnt want to go for an entry level luxury badge and didnt have the budget for a GLC or an X3.

My options were the Skoda Superb, Skoda Octavia, Toyota Fortuner, Innova Crysta . Family didn't want the Crysta, I didn't like the Fortuner (Overrated car). Interestingly the Citroen was not even an option. For some reason, I went with my wife to the Citroen Showroom in Ecity and took a casual test drive, while I loved the way the car drives, I wasn't very impressed with the interiors and the features. Ruled it out. After driving the Skoda Octavia which was a disaster. The tires felt so rigid and we could feel the slightest of undulations. Test drove the Superb, liked the car, the problem was it was only available in Petrol (Doesn't work for me). So...... We were stuck. We decided to go for the BMW X1, went to the showroom, no test drive car, no demo car and we didn't like the attitude of the sales guy there. Dumped the idea.

The we explored the idea of used Luxury cars, went to a few dealers but didn't muster the confidence. We decided to give the Citroen a second chance. Went back to the Showroom along with our daughter this time, and we took a test drive through slush, highways, non existent roads and were mighty impressed with how this car tackled all of it. The sales guy was eager to sell and I managed a good bargain. Booked the Shine variant in Tijuca Blue. Retrospectively , this was a wise decision.

Living with the Citroen C% Aircross

I am driven to office , and I drive during the weekends. Every time I drive this car I thank myself for ignoring all the negative comments on the Internet and putting my money on this car.

The car is powerful, the gearbox is a dream, Suspension is amazing. You can do some amazing speeds on this car and you will not know unless the 120kms beep gently nudges you. Have had my share of brushes with a Idiotic driver of a Bolero reversing hard into the front of my car. To my surprise, while from behind the steering wheel , it felt like the front was severely damaged, it only resulted in a minor dent on the front bumper and a fee clips coming off. That's the moment I felt that this car was built well. There were few more such incidences but each time the car proved that it was built strong. In crazy Bangalore traffic, the car still gives a 12-13kms per liter

On highways , I can drive for the whole day and still not feel tired. That's the best part of this car. The boot is cavernous and the mileage around 14-15 while driven at 100-120kms on the highway

Service costs are between 9-13k per service so far. Service experience has been good.

The not so good stuff:

The battery gave up in the 14th month, the service guys were considerate to give a 50% off on the new battery which is quite expensive at 16k.

While the car is exceptionally good, there are few adjustments I had to make. The back seats are not as comfortable as the front and therefore in the front even while being driven around by my driver.

All in all I am happy with the car. Happier that there are not many around and even after 18months I still get the appreciative/inquisitive glances and a few enquires at the Fuel Stations on how the car is. All in all Very Happy with the car.

Re: Citroen C5 Aircross Review

Hello all,

First of all I thank moderators for accepting my membership.

This is my first post on Team Bhp and I now feel I am at the right place for the right advise.

I am planning to buy Citron C5! Yes if I am not considered stupid.

A bit about my self. I am 54yrs old. At the moment I use VW Vento TDI 2010 with 1.3L km on Odo, 2014 Skoda Superb TDI MK II with 90k km and Honda Jazz 2018 yet to reach 10k km. I do not replace my cars frequently & keep them till they reach end of their life cycle.

Why Citron C5.

1. Our Vento, though can still serve us for another 3/4 yrs though been maintained as good as new till date is showing its age.
2. We as a family has an itch to buy an SUV as we love to go for long drives and now would like to explore more states by road. Superb though can take us anywhere, but wife feels we must now try SUV which gives us better and commanding seating.
3. Sorry not to offend anyone, but I do not consider Taigun, Kushaq or Creta as an fully grown SUV.
4. I am hardcore fan of European cars which limit my options.
5. Diesel head after enjoying torquey and fuel efficient Vento and Superb for all these years. Also believe EV’s still have a long way to go.
6. Kodiaq and Tiguan could be an alternatives ,but They seems too big with No diesel options.Jeep is now looking too old plus somehow not inclined towards this brand.
7. We had test driven C5 long back before it was launched and loved it since than. It was beautiful to drive, lovely cabin, smoothest ride ever experienced on Mumbai roads. Secondly, it does standout amongst all the other cars. I do have a strong feeling, this car is as of now is the only choice I have which ticks all the boxes.

Except

1.Company has stopped making new C5. I had read somewhere that cars even at the factory are 2022 made.
2. Not sure about part support from company for at least 10yrs.
3. Purchase would be made during first quarter of 2024.

These are the 3 major concerns.

I was detected with Multiple Myeloma Cancer last year. As of now I am under isolation after my Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) . As per doctors, as of now it’s a good cancer which just needs Maintanence 🤞.

I have always bought cars which I love without bothering too much about their maintenance, re sale etc. BTW I forgot to mention, I was proud owner of Palio NV 1.2 for 15 yrs . Decided to handover for dismantling rather than selling it to any random person.

So the question which remain .Am I stupid? Please guide me and if anyone has any insight on future of Citron in India, please enlighten me.

Thanks.
