The A35 is launching on 25.03.21 as per the Mercedes India tweet.

Hopefully Merc India hasn't got the same stuff as what Audi was smoking (S5 at 80 lacs!) and they will price this more reasonably and realistically.
If not, BMW India can keep its cash counters open for more bookings of the 340i.

Re: Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine Review

A35 at 56.xx lacs isn't going to cut it.

That's just 6 lacs off from the 340i. And for those extra 6 lacs you get more power, more space, more performance and more presence.

An ex-showroom price of around 49 lacs would have been better.

But then again the standard A Limo costing almost 40 lacs is too pricey in its own right. BMW got hammered for its unrealistic pricing of the 2 series. Mercedes has gone out and done the same thing.

Why would anyone in their right mind pick up a car like this over a standard C/3/A4 is just beyond me.

Re: Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine Review

A Class 'Limo' is impressive and all, no doubt - but when I read the price of the C at 48 Lacs on-road, the first thing that comes to my mind is that its the same engine that powers a Nissan Kicks.

Why would anyone choose this over a C Class or a 3 series? Beyond me, but then, I'm not in the market for a premium marquee sedan either.

Re: Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine Review

It's high time they start pricing the Petrol and Diesel engines of similar power out at par, especially in the luxury segment. MBIL can and should be the front runner of this.

The A35 with a "launch" price of 49.99L would have been great to create a buzz and get sales then gradually increase the price to 52-53L, which is what it will finally sell at after discounts by this year end I feel.

Good strategy. 7 Lacs discount on the first 100 units of A35 sold, translates to 7 Crores - which will definitely be miniscule compared to their advertising budget for the new A Class.

Re: Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine Review

Awesome 330i/320D is available for same price or lesser. Yes it's the sport variant and misses few features, but then I get a car from higher segment and much better engines. The next gen C class will start at 60L or above here in Bangalore.

Re: Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine Review

1L difference between the petrol and diesel variants may be standard fare - but this petrol feels extremely overpriced for what it offers IMHO. Diesel is at least competent - but priced too close to the 3 Series as others have mentioned above.

Overall, Mercedes is trying to pick up the pricing game exactly where BMW lost it with the 2 Series Gran Coupe.

Re: Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine Review

For a luxury brand, it's better to fail at a higher price point than succeed at lower price point.

I only wish they also offered the hatchback version. I still enjoy spotting previous gen A class hatch on the streets, it looks great.

For how long will automobile companies continue with this marketing gimmick?

Sold Out? How many were for sale? 10 or 10,000?

I see this gimmick with European companies, I think Skoda was sold out of its 10+ year old special sticker edition Rapid model !

Re: Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine Review

What I just cannot fathom is paying 40 lakhs for a car that shares the same exact engine as a 12 lakh Renault Duster Turbo! The 1.3 Turbo Petrol is co-developed by Nissan and Mercedes and develops the same level of power and torque (~160 HP, 250 NM) in both the Duster and the A-class limousine. I would also not be surprised if the Dusters' CVT gearbox is as smooth, if not smoother than, the Mercedes 7-speed DCT gearbox.

So true! This is definitely the strategy used by many German marques and honestly, by now they are fooling nobody.

Re: Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine Review

If you pay 39.90 lacs for the A Class , you would most likely be taken away by men in white coats.

However , the A35 AMG would be a good used buy down the line. But I doubt if they would sell any.

But again , posers would definitely want to buy the A Class.

Re: Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine Review

The competent diesel might just about justify its sticker price (should honestly be a few lacs cheaper to be competitive).

The petrol, for that motor, is atrociously priced, esp. given its poor NVH that'll take away from the snob value anyone might buy this for.
