Thanks. For me choice was very simple. Been driving Safari Storme since 10 years, ladder on frame type SUVs just pampers you, be it cabin space, commanding view or road presence. So narrowing down new option with more powerful engine than safari, the choice was between fortuner and MG Gloster for me. Most importantly reliable after sales service. So bought fortuner only for toyota service reliability.

I had a pearl white safari and now an attitude black Fortuner. I dont see any difference when it comes to heat. Perhaps i will be able to provide better feedback once i have long term ownership experience with this car

Is there any news of ADAS being offered in Fortuner before new version?

Atleast 360 Camera (not dealer fitted)?

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

Greetings!

I'm contemplating getting a Fortuner 4x4 AT in Black this Diwali, my only second thoughts on the car is should I wait out for a year to get the new-gen or to go ahead with the purchase now?

Any comments/thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks.

If you are not in a hurry, then I would say wait. The next generation Fortuner is expected to come with a 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine rated at 300 bhp and 400NM. The downside is that Toyota may bump the price to some crazy number.

If you like the present Fortuner and the way it drives, buy now. The cheapest brand new Fortuner you can buy is today. God knows what the pricing executives will be thinking tomorrow.

But if you are in two minds and feel the Fortuner is overpriced, but nevertheless will buy only a Fortuner, then wait. The next-gen Fortuner will definitely be a vast improvement if we go buy Toyota's recent global SUV launches. Also there will be modern petrol options available too.

If history repeats, they will bump up the present Fortuner pricing by a fair bit six months before the new one is launched. To soften the price shock.

Haha, true that. Thankyou for the valuable feedback.
No doubt the new global architecture platform would be a huge upgrade for the Fortuner,
The only thing that worries me about the next-gen is that diesel motor would be missed dearly, and the car would lose its muscular intimidating stance, and the design would rather be more mature/elegant.
A better ride quality would be welcome though.
Just wish that the Fortuner retains its abuse-friendly nature, and tops the reliability chart as always. Doesn't look like a great trade off just for a few features and some shiny new looks.
Will keep the forums updated with my decision.
Cheers!

Inspite of the online chatter, I don't think the next gen Fortuner is going to dump the diesel option. They launched the Prado with the 2.8l diesel, no reason for them to stop offering diesel in the next gen Fortuner on the same platform. Current diesels will comply with future regulations for atleast 5-6 years.

Though am not sure if the often mentioned 2.0l turbo petrol will make an appearance. The Fortuner is low down in Toyota's global pecking order. It will most likely get the current workhorse; the T24A 2.4l turbo petrol instead.

I was in a similar dilemma and the lighter colours (particularly Super White and Pearl White) look good on Fortuner but the Black to me looks the best and highlights its butch and menacing looks and hence, I fell for the Black. Needless to mention it is the most difficult to maintain.

The AC is a chiller and cools the cabin in no time. The black exterior may absorb more heat but inside the cabin one does not feel the heat even if parked in the sun during peak summers.

Many Congratulations on getting the beast home! I am sure you are loving the initial ownership experience already and munching miles just like your Safari Storme.

Agree with you on the heat and be rest assured, you would not face any issue because of the colour of the car. You may consider getting a PPF to maintain the gloss and shine, which helps maintain the car in black.

The best time to get it is now. I find the current generation to be a well rounded package and is great to drive. Since you will anyway be investing in a Fortuner, even if they launch a new generation and you decide to sell the current one, you may still possibly be gaining money rather than losing So why waste time in thinking rather buy it soon and start enjoying.

Thanks. Already got PPF and ceramic coating installed pre-delivery of the vehicle from Toyota dealership. I paid INR 1,40,000 after discount. For me PPF was critical since i dont stay in apartment but an independent house. my car is always parked outside the house under the tree. it was important to protect my car paint from gums/resins falling from tree as well as bird dropping.

With my previous car it wasn't an obvious problem since it was pearl white safari storme.

Right now enjoying every bit of drive with my fortuner whether city or highway. Already munched 1500 kms on ODO and completed first service within 2 weeks of car delivery. Upcoming solo trip during 3rd week of November will be bangalore - Shirdi - Bangalore via solapur

1. There is no fixed timeline for the next-gen Fortuner to be launched in India. Could be 2 years or more.

2. Knowing Toyota, it will be priced ~1.5 times the current one.

3. Current Fortuner is probably the last species of a thoroughbred, big diesel engine! Next generation will come with petrol & diesel hybrids.

Take your pick

Absolutely agree with you here 100%
Thank you for the reassurance to go ahead with my purchase this festive season.
Cheers!

I'm confused about whether the water is not drained by design or it's a flaw.

I never saw a plug preventing water from coming out of the door shell in any of my previous cars

That's an interesting point. It's preventing water from draining in new age Fortuners and Innovas, I didn't have this issue in my old model Fortuner.

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

Started getting rid of the halogens.

They made it so unnecessarily hard to swap the bulbs in this car.

The puddle lamps from the bottom of the door cards don’t have reflectors. Half of the light output is wasted.
