Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

I have added Osram T10 Led bulb to all the puddle lamps on door. The output is very impressive. I highly recommend this one as the alternative official accessory available at Toyota Dealership cost ~5000/- with Fortuner letters projection downwards on ground. Installation of led was simply DIY plug and play. 2pairs of T10 Leds costed me 700/- only.

Hi Winterfell,
I have swapped the bulbs with OSRAM t10 as well.
But I find the output to be the exact same. You can see my post above. Only the color is different.

And that too only on the ORVM puddle lamps.
Since it’s a downfiring enclosure, and the bulb’s LED is facing that way.

The puddle lamps in the doors have no reflector. And the bulb is placed horizontally. We need a side firing LED. Half of the light is wasted as there is no reflector in the puddle lamp.

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

Footwell area is more illuminated (~200%) now when compared to the original one. I had checked the official accessory at Toyota dealership in the evening and can surely confirm that these Osram LED has much better output than those. Since you have installed under the ORVM, you can consider upgrading it with higher wattage/intensity/brightness LEDs. Look for Philips if they offer anything similar to that. The Osram one’s are just 1W. The larger area to be covered under the ORVM needs high output LEDs in my opinion. The sideway positioning of the bulbs might also be an issue, Toyota should have provided its socket in Upside down position.

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

Hey guys!

I was wondering if any of you know a way to enable wireless android auto and apple carplay functionality on the stock head unit. Connecting every time with a wire becomes a hassle overtime. If any of you have done it please let me know the method you went with.

As far as I have seen, it is either getting a dongle, which seems way too expensive in my opinion (6-8k) or using a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W. I have my reservations about the latter because it has 2.4 GHz WIFI and might make the entire interface laggy. I would really appreciate it if anyone who has done something similar would let me know what you did and if you are satisfied with it. Thanks!

Get a dongle, you now get for as low as 3-4K in India too. Easy and quick fix. Good one's don't have any lag either, though there might be slight drop in audio quality.

Thanks! Do you have any suggestions for good ones? Perhaps some that you have used?

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

(Cross posting from the What SUV thread)
I was in a similar dilemma till last week. I used to own a diesel Fortuner AT which I let go last year because of the DPF issues, which were driving me crazy. Plus with NCR tightening its grip on diesels with each passing year, the lure of a diesel is fast dying here.

I bought a top spec Scorpio N P AT last year and have dont 15k on it and loved every KM of it. It's a brilliant machine that punches way above its weight. Only thing I dont like is its rear styling.

Fast Forward to present, due to some family circumstances, the need for a second car was being felt. Now my wife and I are very clear on one thing- our cars have to be SUVs if pocket allows. NCR roads and traffic conditions do not look kindly upon sedans.

With a budget of 40 L, we started evaluating options and tested everything from the XUV700 P AT to the Audi Q5 (way out of budget). I almost finalised the Kodiaq which post discounts was coming for approximately 43 Lakhs OTR.

Then in one of my recent visits to Dubai, I drove a brand new Fortuner 2.7 Petrol and was really amazed by how different it is from the diesel. It's like one is driving two completely different cars. Although much has been written about the power, I honestly didn't feel it lacking upto 140 kph. That's more than enough for Indian roads, to be honest.

So I came back convinced that the Fortuner Petrol it is for me. In India, it has way more street cred than the Kodiaq and the best part is, it worked out 4 lakhs cheaper than the Kodiaq!

So I booked one, the dealer had my colour in transit, so it was arranged for delivery in a week. Got the loan processed and am awaiting delivery this week .

So, I would strongly recommend you trying out the Petrol Fortuner. It is seriously underrated and as things go, is practically a VFM offering!

Surprised to see the Fortuner petrol still being sold. For some reason I though it was stopped alongwith the Innova Crysta petrol.

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

Hey all!

I have a Fortuner that is a 2019 model. I was dreading to get Apple Carplay and Android Auto on it. Finally I found a thread on here itself where the OP had mentioned that he got his Crysta HU changed to the latest one. I followed along his post and contacted the person mentioned there. His name is Yash and he runs Clarity Car Audio. Voila! He had a head unit from a 2024 fortuner. He is originally from Goa and was coming to Bangalore to fit these HUs to other cars too. I paid an advance and booked mine.

He was due to come in the next one week and only I know how I spent it .

Anyways he came into Bangalore and was staying at a hotel near Hebbal at the time. I went there and he had a custom fit harness for it which would make the installation of the Head Unit into the current setup seamless.

We had a quick chat and I learnt that even he is a car enthusiast who began his journey with DIY upgrades to his own cars.

He installed the Head Unit in no time and we checked if everything works. Everything including the steering controls, MID audio display and the Eco Score worked seamlessly. I had a small issue where the audio source and music display did not work inside the MID. I called him and even though it was quite late, we discussed the issue and he asked me to come to him tomorrow morning. As we figured it was a small loose connection and it works flawlessly till date.

All in all a 100% satisfied with the result. I am quite amused that this ended up being so much better than an aftermarket HU as the speakers on my car went from a 4/10 to 8/10 just from this update (6-speaker stock setup).

This solution looks elegant and it does not look out of place at all. I am extremely happy with the way it turned out and I finally get Android Auto and Apple Carplay !

Hey Ravi,

I have been planning for this upgrade since January but my dad has been hesitant and thinks wires will need to be sliced as (touchwood) our car hasn't had a wire cut in almost 7 years of its life.
Our Verna from the same year, and even our most recent Alto K10 has even got Apple CarPlay and dad has got quite used to it and now wants it on the Fortuner. I've shown him multiple stories of Yash and now even recently, a friend of ours belonging to Noida drove to Goa and got it upgraded.

I told this story just to say, that due to your thread my dad has agreed for this upgrade after a whole year So thanks

Just asking, can you please upload a video while going into the MID settings and changing the theme of the audio system? Really curious to see what happens or if anything even happens.

Thanks and Regards.
