Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

Hey guys,
I'm considering the Alpine Halo 9 for my car and if anyone can help me figure out how to retain the track info in the MID I would be super grateful. That's the only thing holding me back. :(

Dear Ravi,
(https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/members/ravi2k3.html)

Thanks for your post. It inspires me to do the same with my 2019 fortuner.
If you could share the details of the gentleman who helped you I would be obliged.

..Just asking, can you please upload a video while going into the MID settings and changing the theme of the audio system? Really curious to see what happens or if anything even happens.
Hey! Congratulations on convincing you dad! I have to say, the theme switching works although the preset themes in the MID coincide with the themes from the old HU, so if you select let's say "RED THEME", it shows black theme on the new HU. The switching part of the themes section works. The car is not with me right now for me to shoot a video of it in action but you can take my word for it. One more thing I wanted to clarify, there was slicing of wire only for one thing, that is showing the current track on the MID's music section. Nothing else, it was a simple one.

Hey! I'm not sure about Alpine Halo 9, but I'm pretty sure it is just a simple wire slice from the headunit to the MID's wire (again I'm not sure exactly which one) that carries the track information. That wire taps the Head Unit's track information and carries it to the MID. Atleast that was the case with my Head Unit upgrade.

I don't care if its a simple one, if a wire is sliced, then it is a no from me now. I myself was really very excited to go for this upgrade as I, myself travel in the fortuner a lot and therefore want no risks in the car.

FYI it was an optional one that I got done. It works without it just you don't see a music track on the MID. It's left up to you man. Cheers.

You went from Toyota to Toyota, the protocols are the same and supported hence it would be possible.

I would love for it to be that simple with an aftermarket Head Unit but all the installers are telling me it isnt possible. My CS degree wont let me sit this out

Any idea or updates on when the Next Generation Fortuner is expected in India?

Late 2025 or 2026. Looks like Toyota will stretch current model beyond 10 years. An update of mild hybrid Fortuner is on cards, expected by mid 2025.

It costed me 17k including the installation.
I do not have the pics of light's in action in the dark, but I will get them over the weekend and share it. I'm attaching the pics of how they fit into the existing fog slots.

Hello Arun!

Since its been a year that you've used Aozoom projectors, could you give us a review of your experience so far?!

I'm planning to upgrade my foglights with Aozoom & will appreciate your inputs.
Also some night time pics if possible.

Thanks in advance,
Powertrain

I just got a Sigma4 AT Pearl White. From my source, the facelift is expected to be launched around Q3 of 2025. It will have the mild-hybrid variant. The next gen. fortuner will be in late 2026 or early 2027. All these will be showcased a quarter before the actual launch.

I recently installed the Aozoom FLP 2033 Tricolor 2" inch projector in my Fortuner. The light throw is excellent and once you get them, you will rarely bother about stock low beams. Go ahead and you will not regret the upgrade. They are very easy to install as the mount is more or less like the Toyota.

Also, the stock fog lights are of such a poor quality when compared to the build of Aozoom.

Thanks,
Slushmaster

Hi, I have a few questions on the projectors.

1. Are you using the high beam in the projectors? Have they tapped the high beam signal from the main headlight to power the high beam in the projectors? If yes, have they installed a relay kit or just a direct tap from the main high beam?
2. How is the color selection done? If you select a color, does the projector remember this selection next time the fog lamps are turned on? I checked the Nova 2R tricolor projectors from FE Retrofits. In this model, the color is selected by repeatedly turning on and off the projectors. Once powered off, it does not remember the last selection and reverts to full white.
3. Electrically, how did the installer connect the projectors to the existing wiring harness? Did they use some type of plug and play wiring harness adapter or did they splice the wires?

Thanks in advance for the inputs.

Yes the High beam is also functional. No relay or anything like done, they just tapped it to the high beam connector. But the high beam of the projector only gets activated if the fog lights are turned on.

As per my memory it remembers the last selected option/color. I will double check it today.

No wires were cut, it was a direct plug and play

Thanks,

This is very good. I spoke to a couple of installers here in TN who deal with FE Retrofit projectors and both said the mechanical fixing will be plug and play as the projector comes with a Toyota compatible bracket, but wires will be cut.

If your installer installed without cutting wires, he should have used an intermediate wiring harness that connects to the car's original wiring harness on one side and to the projector on the other. Do you have any pictures of the installation process that show this intermediate wiring harness?

Thanks a lot for the detailed response.

Unfortunately I did not click any pictures. But, I was standing there the whole time and after bolting them on the bumpers, no insulation tape, no wire cutters were used. I think they simply inserted the thick ends from the Projectors into the Female coupler of the original wiring, but I can be wrong. I confirmed before the installation that no wires will be cut. I can confirm this next week as the garage is near my office.
