Paddles can be useful while downshifting, especially when you want to overtake or while descending on ghats when you want to limit the gears. Downshifts using paddles are quick but upshift happens only when the car is in range(RPM/speed).
Thank you, I did a 100 km drive today. Looks like I am getting used to its behaviour now. An annoying thing I noticed was that the rpm needle goes to idle rpm everytime I lift off the accelerator. It's like the gearbox moving to neutral and coasting as soon as the throttle is lifted. Is this the normal behavior in Fortuner ? Does it change in sport mode ? I think this is the reason it takes an extra moment for quick acceleration after the pedal has been lifted off.

Thank you. Toyota quoted me 7k per wheel to do it. Did it cost that much to you ?

I did not do it through Toyota, it was around 11.5K for 5 alloys (Yes, it was all 5 alloys when I took delivery 2 months back)

Which mode are you driving in? In Eco mode there is delay which improves in Normal mode. In Sport mode, you get almost instant response. Engine RPM is at 1600 if you at 6th gear and about 1900 RPM in 5th gear. Idling RPM is at about 800. In Normal and Sport mode, when RPM drops, there is a downshift. It may take some time to get used to characteristics of gearbox and engine but would definitely recommend to avoid Eco mode. This mode just negates the positives of engine and there isn't significant improvement in FE too.

I used only normal mode. I guess it's just about spending time with the car and getting used to the gearbox behavior. I see your point about Eco mode. Even in normal mode, the FE is actually great for such a big car.

Thank you and Finally my wait for legender 4x4 is over.

Reached Harsha Toyota, Nellore right on time by sharp 9:30am yesterday. Sales executive Mr Karthik and Temple priest were ready with Puja materials. There is Vinayaka temple inside the showroom. So prayed and performed puja to my legender. After that I got all my papers under 20 minutes as they were prepared by yesterday evening.

Mr Mukesh, sales head and his team Mr Karthik have done perfect job.

I drove back my vehicle from Nellore to Vizag approximately 690 kms, started at 10:30Am and reached home by 12:30 In the night which includes lunch and dinner times.

My impressions::
1) Felt little sluggish and also felt little disconnected with the suspension initially. After driving for few kilometres, I found my rhythm, oh awesome it is, I dove through very bad roads for few kilometres at a stretch, but this vehicle has no complaint whatsoever.

I think my feeling for that sluggishness is because of driving jaguar f pace for last couple of months and didn’t drive my 2017 Fortuner 4x2 Automatic.

2) steering is little hard and felt each and every bump right through the steering. After almost driving more than 100km and searching for tyre pressure checking in few petrol stations, non of them have proper functioning tyre pressure checking equipment.

Finally checked tyre pressure for all the 4 tyres in a petrol station, to my surprise the tyre pressures are almost extra by 13 points in each tyres. Once after reduction of air pressure as per Toyota’s recommendations,
The drive quality was improved drastically.
I felt as if I’m driving a completely new car.

My DPF regeneration started after driving 280kms and second regeneration started at 630km.

Today morning took my legender to a body wash and also got my vehicles under body painted with 3M chassis paint. They have done a splendid job.

After that took the vehicle to my friend Sitaram who owns xtreme car decors, Got my entire car including front windshield fixed with garware icecool shield film, replaced company given horns with much bigger and louder ones.

Tomorrow morning have to replace 265/60/R18 Bridgestone tyres with 285/60/R18 Michelin. Thanks for the help.

Congratulations and happy motoring. Few queries on the upgrades

Horn - Make and other details will be helpful, I was also thinking about moving to one that sounds German . Will this impact the warranty?

Tyres - How is the feel with Michelin, I was using Michelin in my earlier Fortuner 4X2 AT and was quite happy, but thought soft side walls will compromise the off-roading capability in the new 4X4.

Hi, I upgraded my Don's horn with Denso ones. The difference is amazing and they are better than the Hellas. Also, in US, Toyota SUVs come with Denso horns as OEM. They are a good water proof design and have a nice range, for windtones.

This is a must have upgrade for the Fortuner.
The OEM horn sounds squeaky and does not do justice to the SUV. How much did it cost you? Looking forward to details that Maverick also requested for.

Hi, I was able to find some pictures of the Denso horns. They are around Rs.1200, if you know the seller well.

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

Upgraded tyres from 265/60R18 Bridgestone to 285/60R18 Continental cross contact.

Harsha tyres, Visakhapatnam charged close to 35k for upgrading four tyres.

Initial impression:
Steering has become hard and suspension little stiffer.

Checked the air pressure in the tyres and it was 40psi in all of them. So, after reducing them to 30psi (1psi more than the recommended), then the ride was smooth and felt the grip, but at lower speeds, the steering was little tight and once you gain momentum it was normal.
The stance has improved, here are few snaps after the upgrade:

Congratulations on getting the new Legender Just wanted to know how much a 285/60 R18 tyre would cost if a person wanted to buy it without the exchange. Wishing you many happy kilometers on your beast.

Thank you.
Each tyre will cost you around 20,500/- for continental cross contact without exchange. Prices may vary across cities.
