Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

Saw this Desi TopGear. Very enjoyable, wish Toyota India gets equally active.

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

Another late review of Legender. While the reviewer owns an Endeavour within family and is a fanboy, some of the findings are spot on.
Toyota should have sent 4x4 for review, which to me is the real top end. That said Toyota has been successful in convincing people that Legender is the top of the line variant and as I know about 40% of booking with each dealer is for Legender.

Although I am not a big fan of his reviews, one thing that caught my attention while skipping through the video was at 23:30, the cars on the left would have normally merged and come into his lane if it was any other car, but here no one dared to come in it’s path. Also while taking the U-turn that auto driver actually waited for him to complete it, usually that’s never the case. So definitely a white colour Fortuner gets a bit more presence and respect on the road.

Fortuner can get you unwanted attention too. Few incidents that I experienced.
1. I have Endeavour since 5 years and my house is in a isolated place. All these years new delivery guys always used to ask me "Is the location a house with Innova?".Since 3 months now I am being asked "Is the location a house with Fortuner". While Endeavour is quite popular too, Fortuner seems better known.
2. I was driving back home in unregistered Fortuner, I could see bunch of folks with garland waiting for someone. They asked me to slowdown and the folks came running towards the car. On seeing my face and empty rear seats, I was asked to move forward. On seeing few hoarding realised they mistook the car for someone else.
3. A non auto enthusiast asked , you already had one Fortuner why did you buy another one? Probably could have got Benz. I had a convince him the other car I have is Endeavour not Fortuner.

Endeavour is quite popular among folks who know cars, but for rest a big white SUV is Fortuner.

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

Has anyone noticed the difference in steering wheel finish of the Legender and regular Fortuner? Legender seems to have a smooth finish leather where as Fortuner has a grainy leather finish like before.

The steering gets wood inserts in both. While Legender gets glossy finish, Fortuner gets Matt finish. Same at gear selector and cup holder area. Leather is same in both except color.

Yes, Fortuner gets matte wood and Legender gets glossy wood. But my question is about the leather quality of the steering. See the below pic taken from the official review: Edit // added pic of the Fortuner steering, now the difference is clear.

You can see the finish of the leather, is less grainy as compared to normal Fortuner. You can imagine the difference between leathers of the old F30 3 series, it had grainy texture and hard to touch, where as G20's leather on steering is smooth. Same difference I am noticing here with Fortuner and Legender.

I do not recall noticing difference in touch and feel, though I was not observing keenly,.The effects in photos appear different, look at dash/door pads, even they look darker and smoother in first picture.

Fuel efficiency comparison. Despite being powerful and having highest torque, its the most fuel efficient too. On a 4 lane highway maintaining 90-100, fuel efficiency can surprise you.

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

I was comparing the Fortuner pricelist from two different dealers in Bangalore. The road tax, Registration service charge and extended warranty amount were different in the two price lists. How is this possible across two dealers in the same city? This leads to a difference of more than 11K in the on road price. An unassuming customer will end up paying this extra amount without knowing it. Even though 11K is not a large amount in the context of a ~50 lakhs purchase, I found this pretty strange and unacceptable. Did any of you noticed this during your purchase?

Each dealer has a tie up with insurance and prices will vary. Also it's upto dealers to push for add on, pit the dealers against each other to get the best price. Also note even though dealer is same, location matters too. For example offers from Nandi Toyota Hosur road may vary from Nandi Toyota Whitefield.
