This is what some of us were always sceptical about.

I don't know what is the vision for Mahindra. Do they have a mandate that they should be always innovating and their products should always have many innovations and industry firsts? 4 wheel steering system was invented 3 decades back and if it has not made it to the mainstream, there must be reasons (one of the reasons could be, it requites drivers to 'relearn' the way use the steering, depending on the speed, besides being extremely complex). I would say, they should simply focus on introducing tried and tested technology and features in their cars, reliability, quality and making the products which meet the needs of target customers better.

Insider info especially the leadership comments indicate that a brand building exercise is being executed on this forum otherwise when Mr Mahindra can take pride in team bhp Car of the year, he can very well sue someone for leaking trade secrets of their new product. Happy to see Indian manufacturers rising to the occasion and rapidly engaging in social media marketing.

Mahindra XUV700 waiting period as on 15th January 2022.



MX, AX3 and AX5 petrol trims have the least waiting periods extending from 22 weeks to 27 weeks.

AX7L petrol and diesel models get the highest waiting period of 86-88 weeks.

Going by this, the more expensive the vehicle, the longer is the waiting. I would have assumed this to be the opposite considering higher margins for the higher end variants

I guess that is not due to the price but higher the variant, higher number of chips are required and hence higher the delivery period.
But still 88 weeks delivery is staggering and unbelievable as what I have read, by aug 22 shortage of chips would definitely be eased a bit.

I guess it's because the more expensive vehicle have more gizmos for which there is chip shortage. The lower trims with less features don't need as many chips and that might explain earlier availability

Very unlikely. The strong demand would have long evaporated in 5 years. Many newer vehicles as well newer XUV models would have come out as well. So a 10 lakh resale value after 5 years is quite reasonable. Check out the resale value of a 5 year old XUV500 today.

Car selling at 25 lakhs would cost at least 30 lakhs 5 years from now.
If the brand has high release value (ex: Toyota) car bought at 25 lakhs should fetch 20 lakh (for the buyer, it is still 10 lakhs cheaper than a new car)
For brands like Mahindra, it should still fetch around 15 lakhs.
My estimation is based on the used car prices in Bangalore.

Mahindra does not have a high resale value. Just check the prices of 5 year old XUV500. It is unrealistic to expect a 25 lakh car to sell for 20 lakhs after 5 years.

Fair point. On the 88 weeks delivery, it surely is crazy. I for one with a delivery timeline of Jul-Aug 2023, am not sure how long I will be able to wait. XUV 700 is definitely my #1 choice but I may waver and go along with Harrier if I dont see the current timeline improve over the next few months

Agree, that's why said 15 lakhs. 20 would be if it was a Toyota.

I would suggest you should wait atleast till aug 22 and I am sure you would get some realistic near by delivery date.
I had booked diesel AX7L MT and switched to AX7 MT petrol, now online it shows two bookings in my name. Point here is that since one of this is a duplicate booking, which i would anyhow cancle on receipt of vehicle, there would be many such duplicate or wrong bookings which should be ironed out by say mar or April and by aug once chip shortage is eased out, as i read somewhere (can't recall) that m&m expects auto sector to pick up heavily due to reading of chip availability, then the waiting times are bound to come done.
Personal view though.

It is unrealistic to expect such high value but Mahindra Bolero, Scorpio, XUV500 etc keeps their value very well.

I'm not sure about NCR but the only 2017 XUV available on sale in cars24 Bangalore is ~14L INR. There was a 2013 model on sale for just above 8L and it wasn't even in excellent condition, it is sold now and I know that vehicle.

Of course in the next 5 years anything can happen but good cars won't come cheap - any time.

No issues for me since planning to change my car in 2023 only. Will keep this booking and look for the best option next year.

Looks like colour and variant choice makes a huge variance in waiting period. I am also ok to wait till Dusherra / Diwali and if no confirmation till then will see for best available option. I had booked it on 18th Jan.
