Re: Mahindra XUV700 Review

Dear All,

I have a Punch AMT for City usage and Vento TDI DSG for mostly long distance use and also for occassional City use. I am the lone driver at our home. Just to get rid of the monotony of one car, I have two cars, nothing else. Both cars are complementing each other well, so called SUV/Sedan, Petrol/diesel, small size/meduim size etc....

I now think to have only one car, a relatively spacious SUV of Creta's size. But safety rating of Creta is keeping me away from it. Options left are 700/Harrier/Hector. I like 700 the most. Is it prudent to go for 700 as a single car for both City and highway use ? I apprehend that the huge size of the car may pose inconveienice to me in daily city usage. Need inputs please ? Is size a problem?

Thanks

Has anyone tried replacing the IRVM with the auto-dimming one on the 3XO? Or is it too early for that? If we have a success story along those lines, then I would like to have it done on my XUV700 as well.

For the AX7L, only the driver's handle will unlock/lock the car on pressing the handle. The people at the other 3 doors need to wait for their handles to pop out. Not sure about the lower variants, though.

TDed both extensively in the last few days.

1 Creta FL hasn't been crash tested yet. It is expected to do better than the last time with Hyundai now paying more attention to safety concerns.

2 The only problem with 700 size-wise will be parking in tight spots. Driving-wise, it is really easy thanks to the light steering.

700 is any day a superior vehicle in driving experience, safety and space.

But still it is best to TD both cars extensively to make a final decision.

AX7 and lower variants don't get keyless entry and one must unlock the doors using the Remote Key Fob, press the non-motorized handles and open. Locking also must be done using the key.

Do I need to browse boodmo, or if there are any pointers where I can get it for less in Noida?
You can buy this from ASC. I was in the same situation while the car was being washed with a high pressure washer. The cost is just INR 135.

Hi

I'm facing the same issue - the knob is stuck at Hi. What was the resolution?

This happened to me twice. First it was showing 'Hi' on the display, but was able to keep it off. It was there for few days after which I took it to the service centre. They simply connected it to their scanner and got it fixed.

Second time time, it was at Hi and was throwing hot air, I switched the car off for some 10 mins time and it got fixed by its own.

Thanks, was just standing at the service station when I posted this. The team tried updating software multiple times for HVAC with no luck. Finally it was a jammed actuator. They just replaced it.

@RavenAvi has done it in his car, you can check his ownership thread for details. But he has AX5.

I am not sure (don't remember actually) whether the same can be done in the AX3. You need to check with the co-tek of your dealer/ ASC.

I have an XUV700 and a Tata Tiago. I am driving both cars in Chennai City. I don't find much difference between both cars while driving through the traffic. Unlike other SUVs from Mahindra,XUV has a better steering suited for city drives. The maneuvering is very easy even through narrow lanes.

Parking is definitely an issue with XUV as with all big cars but mostly I plan accordingly. In narrow lanes,I don't risk parking my car and instead find the nearest safe place to park. If you are fine with that and the fuel costs,XUV is good for city usage.

Re: Mahindra XUV700 Review

Hellos !

I recently did a trip to Mussoorie and found my XUV700 Petrol AT holding gears upto 3k rpm on ghat sections with an annoying pitch of engine sound at ground speed hovering around 35-45 Kmph. In contrast, I could do this stretch last year with my CIAZ Diesel comfortably in 3rd gear with almost no engine whining.

Shifted the car to Manual mode and observed that car wanted to climb only in second Gear throughout the hill.

Would like to know experience of other XUV700 owners over such hills sections.

If I'm in your place, I would love to consider Scorpio N Z8 Select AT Diesel. Do not get me wrong, XUV700 is pretty good but somehow I've started liking Scorpio N recently. Downside is, Scorpio N doesn't have ADAS, ventilated seats and few more features.

And yes, size is a problem sometimes. In tight parking spaces, sometimes in bumper to bumper traffic and some U turns in smaller streets might frustrate you as well. But I feel that is a smaller tradeoff compared to benefits of owning a big car. XUV700's steering is light and easy to drive too.

Re: Mahindra XUV700 Review

4 learnings/DIY fixes from 5-day road trip

Recently did a 1200 km solo road trip from Bangalore -> Chikamagalur -> Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary -> Udupi -> Mangalore -> Bangalore. Overall, a lovely driving (and roaming around) experience. While I will post detailed travelogue later, I had three different issues with the car during the drive and fortunately found DIY fixes for all of them. Hope XUV700 owners find these points helpful.

1. No signal on car's VI network: I was unable to use connected car features and soon discovered that my trip was also not updating. I realized the VI network was showing unavailable on car's infotainment and thought THAT is the culprit. I researched the forums and found this post. TLDR; disconnect and reconnect your battery terminal to fix the issue. However, my problem was not gone. See next point.

2. Adrenox Connect App stuck at "Connecting with XUV700": During afternoons, there were times when I wanted to turn on the car remotely to cool it down before I got in. However, the app remained stuck saying "Connecting with XUV700". Fix in point 1 also did not help. I then did some research and found that resetting Alexa can potentially solve the issue. That's what I did. I reset/logout Alexa form Device's infotainment, and set it up again following the instructions on screen. With fingers crossed, I opened Adrenox App, went to Vehicle controles, and voila, I could now seamlessly control my car's HVAC remotely. This was not intuitive at all!

3. Crackling sound from car's infotainment and during navigation audio while using CarPlay: This was the second time I was facing the problem. The fix for this is (thankfully!) intuitive though irritating. Here are the steps:
a) Delete the phone from Device List on Car's Infotainment screen.
b) Forget the car from Phone's bluetooth devices list.
c) Turn car Ignition off and again on (This step is optional).
d) Press and hold the call disconnect/voice assistant button the steering wheel.
e) Follow the prompts on infotainment screen. In parallel, open carplay in iPhone settings -> Select your car name (same as that displayed on infotainment prompt). It is important to make this selection from carplay screen on phone and NOT from bluetooth devices list.
After doing this complete reset the crackling sound should disappear.

4. About Xtragreen diesel for XUV700 (this is a learning not an issue I faced): I had been reading around IOC Xtragreen diesel on a separate thread and was in two minds whether to go for it or not as my tank was close to emptying after Mangalore. I checked with one of the Mahindra's service center over phone call and they recommended to NOT USE Xtragreen diesel in XUV700. I missed asking "why" or "what's the harm", but I am now not thinking of trying out this diesel and sticking with the standard diesel.
