Who is responsible for my car to go through this?
Sorry if it hurts you, but you too are responsible for this. Nowadays there are very few Authorised Dealerships/Service Centres and even FNGs too where the mechanic working on the vehicle dedicates his full attention throughout the time.

To err is a human and these mechanics are humans.

I am of opinion that if possible stay with your vehicle when any work is being carried. In this way, you can see if the mechanic is doing his duty properly or his attention has got diverted towards some other thing.

Regarding Less Oil fed to Turbo, I would mention the incident occurred with our Hyundai Elite i20 Diesel Asta March 2015 that has run 3,09,900+ kms (Three lakhs nine thousand nine hundred+ Kms).

In July 2024, the Oil Cooler had got damaged and the Engine Oil got mixed with Coolant in this Oil Cooler and the resultant Milk shake was overflowing from Coolant Aux. Tank.
I don't know for how many kms I drove in this condition since no Oil Pressure Symbol light glowed. When I noticed that some liquid below front right fog lamp, I got confused it with AC Water and drove for around 4-5 kms where I parked and had lunch. When I returned to the car, I noticed the liquid pool below Front Right Fog Lamp again. Due to food gone in my stomach, my 'tubelight' glow and I understood it's not AC Water and is some other thing. I opened bonnet and checked engine oil level and found it below minimum mark. And the Milkshake sprayed all over in the Engine Bay behind Right Headlight. Then I understood that oil is getting mixed with Coolant but could not identify where.

I called my FNG and told the owner about this. He said the oil cooler is culprit here and needs replacement. I was 60 kms away from our city. He advised to pour 01 Ltr of any Diesel Engine Oil, drive at the speeds not exceeding 80 kmph and I would safely return to our city.

I drove for 4-5 Kms slowly searching for Diesel Engine Oil. I bought Gulf Diesel Engine Oil 15W40 CF4 3Ltrs pack (I searched 4-5 shops but could source this 'CF4' grade only. For your information, normally I use 15W40 CI4 or CI4+ Diesel Engine Oil of reputed brands such as Castrol, Valvoline, etc). Pour 2 Ltrs and drove at speeds not exceeding 50kmph with AC Off, frequently checking Engine Temp gauge.

I did not use the vehicle for these two days, had parked it at home and used another vehicle for work. Two days later I got the Oil Cooler changed at FNG for Rs. 4000/- Material + Rs. 300-400/- Labour. The Hyundai Oil Cooler cost was Rs. 11,6xx/-.

I got the Radiator, & Aux. Tank Flushed (Manually- pouring water from Radiator Cap keeping Drain Plug closed, No Pressure Washer) without removing them. But little did I know that the Complete Cooling Plumbing was not fully clean. I used the car in this condition for 3-4 Kkms where I used to come across when Temp. Gauge rising 2bars above normal intermittently.

Then got the Radiator, & Aux. Tank removed and cleaned, and Thermostat Valve Replaced (Thermostat Rubber had got worn out and metal part rusted). The Thermostat might be in working condition since the car was reaching normal operating temp. within 4-5 kms of running.

Now @4-5KKms have been passed after the above (Around 8-9KKms from first incident) but still did not face any problem of Turbo Failure (Touchwood).

I used to wipe the inside of Radiator Neck and cap for the Small Proportion of Milk shake everyday and everytime before I started the car.

Note to Mods- Sorry for posting i20 related matter in XUV7OO Thread.

Re: Mahindra XUV700 Review

Feedback to your queries based on my personal experience:

1. Mechanically Mahindra is good, it is only the electronics part that we should be concerned about.
2. I've availed Mahindra service in other states while on tours in MP and Sikkim and the service centre folks were very helpful and worked on the vehicle on priority basis.
3. Yes you can. But it is better you learn to live with it.
4. No idea.

Oh common man, saying that the vehicle owner is also at fault because he didn't stood by the vehicle during servicing is a bit unfair. Also for many, it's just not feasible given the kind of work they might be in.

IMHO, even if you were with the vehicle, there is a high chance that you may still miss if the technician has properly and fully tightened the nut. E.g. - a technician cross-threads the bolt and tries to tighten it. One might feel the bolt is tight but we know it's damaged.

I have done everything you want us to do. Now it’s Mahindra’s turn to show how they resolve these issues. There is not a single phone or email about this issue.
In addition to the clear deficiency on the service quality, this was pure bad luck for you. And not only the turbo, I would also be worried about potential engine issues in future.

My suggestions for you:
  • Have it documented that due to the service quality lapse, you faced this issue. You might need this if your vehicle experiences unexpected failures/issues in future.
  • Raise this issue above the service center like to area service head etc. Intention is that some right people should know about this and get a root cause analysis done. Only then we can expect proper improvements.

Completely agree with you. Customer/owner shouldn't have to be physically present while the mechanics do their job. In fact, many of the SCs I have visited don't even allow customers to go in the service area (except when SAs themselves request the customer to come in to show/discuss the damage, etc).

Does anyone know if this offer is getting extended till Dec 24? Or they have already rolled back the prices to the original prices from the beginning of Nov? Appreciate if any authentic pointers on it.

Re: Mahindra XUV700 Review

Hi Friends,

Finally I spotted the first niggle after exactly one month of peaceful driving.

Both trip meters and Odometer reading is showing a status "Error" since yesterday. Switching on and off the engine has done no good. Looks like the vehicle is failing to evaluate the distance traveled which I presume is calculated based on the rotation of the wheels.

One can live with failed trip meters, but failure of basic functionality like an odometer is unacceptable and is a serious one, as it is related to servicing interval.

Have anyone encountered this issue?

Thank you.

I read some ownership reviews. While the car definitely has niggles what I felt was that the service backup has been good. So, that's somewhat reassuring.

What worries me is that some reviews do mention change of front brake pads every 10-15k kms. Isn't that like way too short? Has this been the experience for everyone with ADAS feature or is it the same even for lower/mid variants?

Other than that there's this "silver box" & "fuel hose" issue that needs attention.

"Fuel hose" rupture due to friction is something that can be fixed probably in first service itself. Not sure if recently manufactured vehicles would have the same fault but M&M should definitely do immediate recalls for such a critical manufacturing defect.

Fuel Hose issue being documented here: https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-...ml#post5785062 (Reincarnating Orange Cheetah | TheRedSparkle Mahindra XUV7OO AX7L AWD | 80,000 km up!)

I am yet to check the Hycross ownership threads for similar "niggles" & try out if Hycross would even fit in my house. Once I do that I can make an informed choice to decide between Hycross/XUV or postpone the decision to future when more options/finances are on the table

I have an AX7L AWD with 26k of running so far, with 95% being highway running. I haven’t had to change brake pads yet. During the 20k service, I asked SA specifically to check the brake pads (since another member on team-bhp had mentioned brake pads requiring earlier than expected replacement) and the SA told me that brake pads look fine, no need to replace them any time soon.

I think it depends on the driving style but still 10-15k is too early in my opinion.

There is an update on pricing.. No official information yet, but heard from known sources that there is going to be an increase of Rs.1L. Which mean discount on AX7 is going to be 1.19L effective from 10-Nov.

Re: Mahindra XUV700 Review

One of my friend bought a AX5 petrol version with 7 seats. Given it was 20.7 lakhs on road, Isn't it a good deal compared to petrol mid-size sedans? You get the panoramic roof too which you dont on sedans.

Other than the mileage, I find this to be good for a family car used for longer distances.

Any idea how much life is left in yours?

In my opinion, brake pads should easily last close to 40k kms or more with sane usage. We are talking of half that.

I kind of echo the sentiments shared here (The Silver Surfer | Mahindra XUV700 (AX7L D AT) | Ownership Review). The sensor looks to be in the middle of the pad from the images shared & might be a design flaw?

Might be wrong though. It's all just visual observations from me from what I see in images. Either that or the material might not be that good.

I can confirm that the sales consultant in M&M did mention about discounts lasting upto 10 Nov after which prices might increase.

Re: Mahindra XUV700 Review

Recently did a Pune to Udaipur trip in my Petrol Manual. Got a mileage of 14.2 over 4 tankfulls.

This included a lot of city driving in Mumbai and Surat. Interestingly the MID showed 14.1 which is weird as for typical tankfulls the MID shows around 1-2 kmpl higher than tankful.

Mahindra XUV700 Review-img20241103160402.jpg

Mahindra XUV700 Review-img20241103160409.jpg

The stretch between Surat - Udaipur - Surat gave me 15.3kmpl T2T. And that included driving on the expressway stretch at speeds around 110-115. I believe this is the max you can get without compromising on the fun factor.

Overall it cost me around 7Rs/km. Buying some thing more fuel-efficient could get you 5Rs/km but trust me that is absolutely not wroth it. This vehicle has been unfairly bashed for having a high running cost.

On a different note, Both Gujarat and Rajasthan has excellent roads, and I wished I had a sedan instead of SUV, but once you enter Maharashtra you will be reminded that the XUV is definitely the right vehicle.

Re: Mahindra XUV700 Review

I own a July 2022 AX7 L P AT. I had to replace the battery (Amaron) towards the middle of last month. The battery lasted a little over 2 years & just under 22,000 kms. Both numbers are surprising to say the least. Called NBS Mahindra and they said they only have Amaron batteries. Decided not to go with Amaron & got Exide from outside.

My car had brake pads replaced around the 15,000 kms mark & now the battery. Doesn't bode well for the long term future of the car.

I did not observe the spillage. The spillage was not from the drain plug. The cap was not tightened properly after filing the oil and it slowly loosened due to the vibrations. The technician checked car history and all the other parts and confirmed that it was due to loosely fitted cap.

I had to escalate today via email as I did not receive any reply to the initial email. Today I copied service head, Provincial Nagpur, Unnati Yavatmal and cc Anand Mahindra. I provided them update that as per technician at Unnati Yavatmal the cap was loosed and even clip of air filter was not properly fitted all this long and the technician had to do when he checked vehicle. I asked them to confirm whether there is any issue with the engine. I received 02 email replies that they will investigate and will confirm on vehicle engine performance. I also received call from Provincial Nagpur and assured me to look into it.

I am sorry but I don’t agree with you. The company should be such that I can trust them and leave the car with them thinking they have got it covered for me. It was very poor job which has raised serious doubts regarding the car and company. The Indian companies need to work on quality. Without quality in service or product you wont last long.

I am disappointed and sad because I had relationship with this service center and that’s why I left car with them for 02 days. As you mentioned, I used to stay for whole day at the service Center to make sure they know I am waiting for the car and takes it very seriously. After seeing their work and developing relationship with technicians I decided recently to trust them and started leaving the car.

Th engine is my concern. I have gone beyond what Mahindra ask us to maintain the car. I changed the engine oil even though it was not required because I love my car. The technician says as of now the error is with turbo and once turbo is changed then and only he can confirm whether there is any issue with the engine or not. I have raised this issue in my email that I need confirmation from Mahindra that engine and engines performance is not affected. I have received assurances for them and I will have to wait and see how it pans out.

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. I will keep you all posted once turbo is changed.
