Re: Mahindra XUV700 Review

I've taken delivery of my AX7 AT, DSL, and discovered a concern. The drive mode selector (Zip, Zap, Zoom) is non-functional. When I press the button, the mode selection menu doesn't appear. Is this a known issue or has anyone else encountered this problem?

XUV700 doesn’t have Blind spot monitoring instead it has a Blind view monitoring.

Blind spot monitoring needs radar modules on the rear, which XUV 700 doesn’t have. The same modules used for Rear cross traffic alert as well.

Blind view monitoring just utilises the ORVM camera video feeds to the digital cluster.

Question to Ax7L owners:
How effective is blind view monitor when it is raining as the image is completely dependent on camera feed?

In my test drive AX7L I felt some lag in blind view monitor feed shown in MID. Is there any lag in what is shown on screen vs real life?

When I start turning the steering, middle portion of screen that shows the feed from blind view monitor gets hidden behind the steering. I am still used to looking in the ORVM for incoming traffic from behind and also take a glance once before changing lane or turning. The SA pointed at least twice during my test drive that you can look at MID to see what’s coming from rear sides. I guess getting used to Blind view monitor would take sometime.

During cold start you need to run the vehicle for few minutes to get this menu. You cannot select this right away. I don't know whether it is a bug or an inbuilt mechanism. I usually drive about 4 to 5 Kms before changing the modes. This happens during cold start/ first start only.

Each time you need to select the mode, by default it reverts to Zap mode after a restart.

I have come across this unusual behavior or in-built mechanism after a cold start. You need to run a few kilometers to choose the modes. It's set to ZAP mode by default.

See TBH neither those who drive FWD feel the requirement nor those who own AWD feel an honest tangible benefit they are harvesting. But other than those definite safety(remember it's effect is preventive rather than structural/airbags etc.) and off roading benefits, it's use case is when you are going that treacherous mile and you can rest assure that the system is there to assist you in a big way.
In my experience of staying in two states HP and Kerala, most of the times I was comfortably ambling around in my Baleno RS. But there were atleast half a dozen times in period of 4.5 years when I was advised to use atleast an RWD to transverse a section/road. Heck there are some destination and weather combinations where the law won't allow any two wheel drive car due to traffic and hazard conditions(read landslide/stuck vehicle). I have experienced it first hand in HP. See this thread:-

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/4x4-e...ern-india.html (4WD destinations in Eastern and North Eastern India)

To end it the use case is like this and sorry for stretching the imagination a bit more- suppose you go on a well planned excursion with your friends or family and you are an amateur guitarist but you forgot your guitar. So when the fire is lit you luckily find that the property owner has one to offer and you then just enjoy it strumming but somewhat miss your oldie. But suppose if after that fire the night is pitch dark you sitting outside your tent can see the damn milky way
and millions of stars/asteroids/comets swirling around, which you know you missed every single moment in your drab bustling city life but actually nobody here offers that telescope or maybe an astronomical binoculars. But luckily you had it in your boot.
That guitar may be panoramic sunroof or surround sound but that telescope is that AWD. You had it and you know what you would have missed if it hadn't been there.

Even after few kms, I'm not able to see the menu while I press the drive mode button. From the infotainment menu, if I change I'm not able to change to any other mode. It always stays in zoom mode. Is there any restriction for the first few kms during run in?

Re: Mahindra XUV700 Review

There is no restriction. Mine is AX7L D AWD and based on previous posts, tested in my vehicle again last night. I started the vehicle at 2 AM last night when the outside temperature was 24 C and I was able to change drive modes without any issue after idling for 30 seconds.

I faced the similar issue of drive mode button not working when I was out of station, but it worked again after switching off the vehicle for couple of hours.

You may have to contact the service center.

That's great to hear. Has any software flashing or mechanical work been done at the service center?

Re: Mahindra XUV700 Review

For the above few posts:
- The drive mode not working is a peculiar issue associated with the software version running on your ICE.
- Check if you have latest ICE software version applicable to your car.
- If it is, ask CoTek at ASC to clear cache through his laptop and try again. I am afraid if it still doesn't work - you need to re-flash the same software version again! My car had this issue and was resolved by simply reinstalling the latest software update sometime in August I think.

This was not just related to the drive mode button - the phone button around intellicontroll knob also used to behave unpredictable - all of that is fixed with clean reinstall of the ICE software.

And for the questions related to AWD: i would like to draw your attention to the posts around this:

Re: Mahindra XUV700 Review

50,000+ kms minor update of Godot - My AWD XUV700 -

I had been observing for the past few weeks that Godot would often sway quite a bit when driven sedately on good tarmac roads. The suspension sound also had gotten worse with something feeling loose and about to fall off. Since I had to drive 250 kms the next day for my training, I had Godot taken to my preferred Mahindra A.S.S., i.e. Apex Mahindra.

As I was preoccupied in preparing for the long trip, I hadn't had the time to book an appointment. While on the way, made a call to the ASC's General Manager Mr. Nubul, and he, without any hesitation or issues squeezed Godot in for a quick checkup.

Despite the service centre being small and quite backed up with cars, Godot was attended to immediately and taken for a TD with me in the front. Upon hearing the loose sound from the front suspension area, the Mechanic mentioned the same to me. I was insistent that this sound was there from the very first time we purchased the car and was a "factory feature" of Mahindra XUV700s. The Mechanic however told me that while XUV700s had loud suspension, this particular noise wasn't present in other XUV700s.

The car was then inspected and it was found that the front LH and RH link stabiliser bars were in a terrible condition. They showed the difference between a proper functioning link stabiliser bar and the ones in my car.

New LH and RH Link Stabiliser Bar

Old LH and RH Link Stabiliser Bar - Notice the section I marked which had to be cut off due to the nut not loosening despite repeated attempts

I gave them the go ahead and only then they went ahead with replacing the worn out/affected parts. I am putting the parts number here for reference to others who might also face the same issue.

RH Side

LH Side
Mahindra XUV700 Review-screenshot_20241120_001117_boodmo.jpgThe front LH and RH link stabiliser bars cost only ₹969 each.

Anyway, once the new parts were fitted, the car was taken for another TD and I was amazed at the difference. Since Day 1, the car had this issue and we thought it was normal for the suspension to sound that way. Over time, the sound had gotten worse but would only appear every once in a while when driven over speedbreakers, potholes, etc at speed (say 20-30 kmph). Thinking that it was normal, we hadn't thought much about it and it was only after the sound got worse and the effects became more pronounced that the issue was caught and rectified.

The mechanic mentioned that the front driver side tyre is in need of replacement so will be purchasing a new set of shoes for Godot once I'm back from my training. Surprisingly, they lasted a good 50,000 kms+ with more than 2.5 mm tread depth still remaining. However, due to not taking Godot for wheel alignment on time, the front driver side has been excessively worn on the inside.

The mechanic also noted that the control arm bushings and ball joints have worn out quite a bit and need replacement, which was surprising. I think this might also have contributed to the drive side tyre's excessive wear on the inside. Have told them that will replace them after returning back as it was already quite late.

On the drive back home, it was pure bliss, since even on bad patches, the suspension while not super silent, was quiter than the day we had received Godot.

My heartfelt thanks to the hardworking team at Apex Mahindra, especially to the ever helpful, Mr. Nubul, the General Manager, as well as Mr. Rovi, the Service Manager for squeezing me in, despite their hectic schedule and resolving my issue. If not for my preferred ASC, I would have sold my 1st Mahindra long back.

I had faced the same issue. It was a bug which got cleared through some software update from the service center.

Did Mahindra increase the shield warranty cost to Rs. 49,000?
