Re: Mahindra XUV700 Review

Hi All. My DEF level is currently at 30%, do we need to top it up from the service center only or can it be topped up from any petrol pump as well? My 1 year service is still about 3 months away.

You can buy the DEF from authorized service center and top up yourself. It comes with a nozzle that fits in the filler port and with enough care, you can avoid any spillage. My concern with filling it at a petrol station is that you won't have a record of buying correct DEF billing against your car when, in case of future warranty claim disputes.

Re: Mahindra XUV700 Review

Get it done at any Shell bunk when you go for a tank up next time. Can be done at any petrol pump also but I'd recommend Shell because:

1. Diesel rates are same as HP, Bharat or IOC. Makes compelling case to fuel up at Shell.
2. Staff is usually better and takes good care while handling your car, making sure there is no spillage of DEF onto interiors.
3. Less rush compared to other fuel pumps.
4. Generally Shell products are perceived to be of better quality.
5. Cherry on top - in my case (Tata Safari), a 5 litre DEF can is about 50-80 bucks cheaper than TASS.

Please stick to Mahindra supplied DEF only, since your car is still under warranty.

Re: Mahindra XUV700 Review

Hi fellow BHPians,

Just wanted to know if anyone is using any sort of Diesel Additive for keeping the injectors clean?
If yes, then which one and if no, then what are your thoughts about using them? And, are diesel additives compatible with the BS6 vehicles?

Thanks & Regards.

I've lost the esim network at around 9000 Kms, I have tried disconnecting the battery and reconnected after 20+ minutes but never got the network back.

Went for 10000 Kms service, they have updated the Adrenox software version from 10.32.62 to 10.41.61 multiple times and they have flashed Silverbox multiple times but still no luck with the e-sim network.

Service centre support team were saying that they have to open the dashboard to check if there any issues with Silverbox electrical wiring but I don't think that would be the issue, apart from the loss of e-sim network signal, I do not have any other issue with Adrenox. I'm not sure what to do, please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Thank you!
Hello all,

Just wanted to update that, this has been resolved back in March 2025.

They have updated the silver box software and flashed multiple times but no luck. As part of trial and error, another car's silver box has been connected to my vehicle briefly and as soon it was connected, e-sim network was back. so they have concluded that the issue is with the silver box and has agreed for a replacement under warranty.

After multiple service centre visits, they have replaced my silver box with a new one under warranty, problem solved. E-sim network has been restored.

The process was lengthy but got the outcome that I wanted

Fuel supply of Shell bunks is from local Refineries ,for the region neighbouring Chennai, Bangalore,Hyderabad its most likely to be CPCL refinery.

Perception is the real game ,marketing plays wonder to it !

Our Airaavat has done 4K kms now and next servicing due is at 10K. Do I need to wait till that service for DEF to top up at Mahindra?
How much DEF will get consumed till 10K kms ?
DEF is new thing to me , my earlier Diesel vehicles MM550 jeep and Swift Dezire had no such requirements

Consumption depends on the driving conditions, more fuel consumption = more DEF consumption. On an average, if a vehicle consumes 100 litres of diesel, it will likely use 3 to 5 litres of DEF, thats around 3-5% of Diesel consumption.

In my case at 10,000 Kilometres, my XUV700 has more than 40% DEF left.

You can check your level in Fuel Info >> Scroll down to the see the remaining %.

Hey mate, just want to genuinely understand if a non OEM DEF will affect the warranty? You can be right, no denying. But is this not just a consumable you'll need to top up every now and then? Does this warrant a service center visit?

And for all those who refill it themselves, how would they prove they used OEM DEF only or how would manufacturer prove they did not ? I know in the warranty game the onus can be easily put on owners to prove otherwise.

Is this really a true fear regarding DEF and warranty claim? Would like to see what other folks on forum have to say.

Note: My Safari too is under warranty and I'll be interested to know the answer.

Yes, the warranty can be affected, at least in Toyota's case. I recall a thread/post where a BHPian had to get their DPF/DEF pump replaced in their Crysta because they filled it with non-OEM DEF, which led to Toyota denying warranty coverage.

DEF top-up is required at a range of 8,000-10,000 km (depending on your vehicle and driving patterns). The best approach is to read your owner's manual, which, I am pretty sure, clearly states the warranty clauses.

How you fill the DEF is your choice: either have it filled at the service center or do it yourself. If you choose the latter, and need proof, simply buy it from the service center and keep the bill.

In short, I recommend sticking to OEM DEF for peace of mind.

DEF consumption depends on your driving pattern. The XUV's owner's manual should give you the information as to when to fill DEF.

I eventually did get the DEF top up done from the service center as this was the first time I was topping up.

However, in my experience, couple of service advisors there mentioned that top up can be done from outside as well, just don't fill too much, top up like 10L. No mention of warranty being affected so I guess it's fine now to get it done outside.

Probably I will top up from a pump next time if a service visit is around the corner and keep the invoice as proof.

Thanks.
Airaavt has done 4200 kms till now and the display showing 75% DEF level still available. I get around 15-16 kms per ltr average in Mumbai/Navi Mumbai city and around 18-19 kms per ltr on highway depending on my speed like if I drive around 80 and then 19+ and if its more than 90+ then its 18 kmpl.
So with this assumption I suppose by 10K kms running I should have around 35% DEF left . Lets see if my assumptions stay true till 10K kms.
Then I will only top it up in Mahindra service at 10K service.

Hi,

Did you finalise the tyres ? My 2 year old XUV 700 is about to breach the 50K Kms mark - and wanted to change the OEM tyres to something that feels as an upgrade.

Hey Arsh. I'm considering retaining the Ecopias as they've now run close to 3.2k, so the exchange value will be negligible.

That being said, Michelin Primacy SUV+ seemed like the best option frankly based on my research - would request esteemed members with real world experience to pitch in here!
