2021 Honda Amaze Facelift : A Close Look

The Honda Amaze is on sale in India at a price of between Rs. 6.32 - 11.15 lakhs (all-India).

Honda Amaze Pros

• An all-rounded compact sedan with well-priced petrol variants
• Spacious & practical interiors
• Diesel + CVT combination is unbeatable! Indisputably the segment best & smoothest
• Suspension offers comfortable ride quality with neutral on-road behaviour
• Features such as cruise control, paddle shifts (petrol AT), LED projector headlamps etc.
• 3-year unlimited km warranty, extendable to 5-years / unlimited km and Honda's unique 10-year Any Time warranty

Honda Amaze Cons

• Diesel + CVT combo no longer available in the mid "S" variant. Diesel CVT VX is expensive!
• Diesel's NVH is just okay, it's not high-rpm friendly & carries a 2-lakh price premium!
• Petrol CVT is fair within the city, but rather mediocre on the highway
• Look closely and you'll find a few faults in part quality, fit and finish (uncool for a Honda)
• Tall rear passengers will find headroom to be insufficient & the fixed headrests useless
• The 175 mm tyres are too thin, while the 35-liter fuel tank is too small

Since the Honda Amaze has already been reviewed by Team-BHP, this report will only focus on changes made to the facelift. To read the full test-drive, click here.

The 2nd-generation Amaze was launched in 2018 & it was a big improvement over its predecessor. Covid months & supply chain issues aside, the Amaze has been a 4000 - 5000 units / month seller which is respectable. Between the 1st & 2nd generations of the Amaze, Honda has pushed out 4,50,000 cars. Over the years, the Amaze has managed to take second place in the C1 segment, although at quite a distance from the unbeatable Dzire.

2021 Honda Amaze Facelift : A Close Look-honda-amaze-facelift.jpg

3 years is about the right time for a facelift & Honda has sprinkled some cosmetic changes as well as additional features on the Amaze. Besides, the company has discontinued the 'V' variant; the car now comes in 3 variants only - E, S and VX. The same engines and gearboxes have been retained. The CVT is available in the VX (top) variants of both, the petrol & diesel. However, it is no longer available in the S (mid) variant of the diesel which is disappointing. The Amaze is sold in 5 exterior colours - Meteoroid Grey (which is a new introduction to the colour palette), Radiant Red Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic and Golden Brown Metallic. The Modern Steel Metallic shade has been discontinued.

The Amaze gets a standard warranty of 3 years / unlimited km, which can be extended for up to 5 years / unlimited km. Honda also offers a 10-year Any Time Warranty which we think is pretty spectacular. This program gives you coverage of 1 year / 20,000 km. The eligibility criteria to get into this program is vehicle age <10 Years and odometer reading <1,20,000 km. One can opt for this program even after the expiration of the standard / extended warranty!!! Under the "Any Time warranty", the dealer will repair or replace any defective part (within the limits of the Any Time Warranty) at no charge to the customer for parts & labour.

Honda Amaze Exterior Review

Looks smart. The front end features new headlamps, a revised grille & a reworked bumper. A lot of chrome has been added though, which won't be to most BHPians' liking:

Finally, the Amaze gets LED DRLs and LED projector headlamps:

LED DRLs are bright and prominent:

With all the lights in action:

The radiator grille gets a slightly slimmer chrome strip at the top. The black honeycomb mesh below it has been replaced by a couple of horizontal chrome slats:

While the bumper remains largely similar to the outgoing car's, the honeycomb mesh of the air dam has been replaced by horizontal slats. The foglamp housings have been changed, and chrome accents have been added:

Foglamps are now LED units. The right fog lamp housing gets open vents, while the left side has them blocked out (visible in the previous image):

The only differences on the side = chrome door handles and new rims:

15" diamond-cut dual-tone alloy wheels look smarter than the outgoing car's wheels. 175/65 section tyre size is retained:

Tail-lamps with reworked elements and a revised bumper:

While the shape of the tail lamps has been retained, the elements have been tweaked. The pilot lamps are now C-shaped LED units:

With the lights in action:

The rear bumper has been tweaked and now houses a thick chrome strip that runs from end to end. Slim reflectors with black housings have been provided on either side. The 4 parking sensors are now smaller than before:

Honda Amaze Interior Review

Design of the dashboard remains identical to the outgoing car's:

Silver inserts replace the piano black pieces seen in the pre-facelift model. They add a little more contrast to the interior:

Just like the dashboard, the steering wheel is identical to the outgoing car's:

Again, silver inserts replace the piano black ones of the old car:

The Amaze has been equipped with automatic headlamps:

Shape of the recess for your index finger has been slightly altered:

The dashboard theme is carried over to the door pads...

...with silver inserts replacing piano black. Rear door pads are identical to the outgoing car's and do not get this silver love:

While the seats are unchanged, the upholstery has been revised and gets a new stitch pattern:

Zooming in on the fabric upholstery to show you its design pattern:

Air flow direction controllers get these chrome inserts:

The refreshed Amaze is equipped with an updated Digipad 2.0 7" touchscreen head unit. It offers connectivity through Apple CarPlay, Android Auto & Weblink. The system plays music via 4 speakers, one on each door of the car:

The interface has slightly changed. Onboard navigation has been deleted from the list of features:

Set a wallpaper of your liking

Navigation is now only through your smartphone which makes sense. With access to Google Maps, you don't miss the onboard navigation at all:

The reverse parking camera still does not get adaptive guidelines, and its mediocre display quality is more 2011 than 2021:

MT gear lever gets a leather boot:

A welcome addition - two individual map lights have been provided at the front:

Rear bench with the new upholstery:

Boot lid gets a full cover on the underside:

Re: 2021 Honda Amaze Facelift : A Close Look

Just saw it on road today. The rear looks extremely overdone. It looks like Honda amaze competes with Hyundai xcent at who's got the ugliest rear.

Great review as always. Were you able to open the fuel filler flap of the diesel car and check if they have switched to DEF as one of the rep's told me.

Only Honda guys can say what got changed. General public will not see a difference between facelift and old car.

Re: 2021 Honda Amaze Facelift : A Close Look

They've added a new grey color (don't recall its name). It looks far better than the 'modern steel metallic' of the City/Jazz.
Also, if I'm not mistaken the automatics of Tigor, Aura and Dzire are AMTs. Aren't they? That would leave Amaze as the only proper AT in the segment and justify the pricing of the AT variants.

The petrol AT does justify its price but not the diesel at its present price.

At least it looks better than the plain Jane, hideous looking old one (IMHO). This car would only truly be better if it sees a generation change soon.

Re: 2021 Honda Amaze Facelift : A Close Look

Fairly detailed coverage of the facelifted Amaze! The facelift has taken the design language closer to the Accord, which lends an air of premium-ness to the Amaze. While I'm generally not a fan of overdone chrome elements, Honda seems to have executed the new chrome highlights quite tastefully. Diesel CVT would be my pick in this segment, despite the hike in price.

Quite a good job done by Honda for the alloys. Just pick up the alloys of outgoing city and paste them on the incoming amaze. Or am I missing something?

Re: 2021 Honda Amaze Facelift : A Close Look

That chunky chrome strip on the front is an eyesore. It just looks plain gaudy Get rid of it, and Amaze is a much better looking sedan. The launch version had dismal looking interiors, which were corrected in the previous facelift itself.

Apart from cruise and few cosmetic changes, is there anything really that's added to call this a facelift? We're spoiled by Volkswagen that used to give such 'facelifts' every year.

Don't forget the Maruti version - throw some horrible colour scheme on a Swift, or put some random stripes somewhere and it instantly becomes an "exclusive" edition!

And yes, I get it Honda, Indian customers like Chrome, and I won't turn my nose over it because the market is what it is, but that chunky chrome strip is like the Drishti potu / Bure Nazar stuff we get in India. It is horrible looking.
