Yes, big time. A car engine does not wear out as much while running as it wears out when the engine is turned on from stand still.

This feature was promoted and exploited by the lobby of Maruti-Mahindra as 'hybrid' for the tax benefits from the govt, now even the true hybrids are not getting any tax benefits.

It's one of the worst feature in the modern day cars along with the removal of manual handbrake which compromises safety big time.

Saddest part is that car manufacturer like VW/Skoda who are known for driver oriented safe cars have also joined the rat race of gadget-on-wheels. They have even gone one step ahead by removing the tactile switches for the AC control and introduced touch buttons.

2. Is there a way I can turn this feature off ?
.
Congratulations! Wishing you loads of happy miles with the Slavia.

As most Slavia owners will tell you, whenever you get into the car and turn on the ignition, first thing to do is deactivate the Start/Stop feature.

You will find a button on the left side of the gear lever marked “A off” with a circular arrow around it. Press the button to deactivate start/stop, you will get a notification on the instrument cluster. I have been doing it from the time I took delivery of my car, it is very sensitive and turns off the engine even while slowing down for a speed breaker. Best to turn it off every time you start the car.

Congratulations on the new car!
The L sticker should go on the top right side for the rear windshield.

Skoda was running a “sale” on August and Slavia and Kushaq were getting discounts of about ₹1.5L so the increased sales numbers in August make sense. That’s one reason why I bought one. The month before, the units sold for Slavia was ~750 for some context. Its a buyer’s market out there.

Re: Skoda Slavia Review

To all recent purchasers of the car, have the air conditioning issues been sorted?

Re: Skoda Slavia Review

Air conditioning has served us quite well. On a hot summer day, if there are 5 passengers, you might end up lowering the temperature to 18-19 and increasing the blower speed. Otherwise it works perfectly well. We usually set it to 21-22 degrees on auto mode in Mumbai. The ventilated seats help too when you’re getting in on a hot day. Overall no issues.

Re: Skoda Slavia Review

I am planning to buy Škoda Slavia with 1.5 TSI DSG. Sales Advisor informed that there are 3 vehicles available (Style 1.5 DSG) with him, out of 2 are Nov 2022 manufacturerd and 1 is Jan 2023 manufacturerd. He is quoting 19.75Lakh on road for Jan 2023 model. Should I go with this or book 2024 Signature 1.5 DSG which is priced 19.5L ? I have also apprehension regarding the condition of Jan23 manufacture vehicle since why it didn’t sold out ? Would that be a defective piece? Or is it normal for skoda to sale older vehicles?
Please advise on how to proceed with this.
After that I visited VW showroom. They informed me that they do not have any 2023 or old stock Virtus and whatever I will book will be ordered by them.

Re: Skoda Slavia Review

19.75L is too expensive for the Jan 2023 model. I got my style 1.5 DSG all inc for approx 20L, and the car was 3 months old (this was last year). Push for atleast 1.5L over the price you’ve been quoted. If you were to go to the yard, I’m sure you’ll find a reason (maybe two) to negotiate more.

What is the OTR of a similar new model? For me 19.75 looks on a higher side. At times these dealer stock might have had minor accidents during transportation which resulted in body work. So if you are keen on going for it, try for a higher discount. Else stick to the new one. Also please note the manufacturing year will also have impact on the resale later, if that is a point of concern for you.

They are quoting 19.19L now. I think I need to negotiate more with them or else will get 2024 Slavia signature/sportline model at the same price.

2024 Slavia signature/sportline model is priced similarly with 19.14L onroad, I will have to look into that as well.

Re: Skoda Slavia Review

My 2023 Slavia bought in April 2024 has thrown up the Check Engine Light sign. The car has not even run 2000 kms. What should I expect? Taking the car to the Service centre for this, will it be chargeable?

Your car is in warranty, it will not be chargeable at all.

Depends on the cause. If the cause is traced back to user's end, then it might be chargeable. Eg. rat bitten wires, unauthorized modifications/ accessories added to the car, etc.
