Hence they stick to aftermarket add ons, stickers and covers to sell as accessories. To be able to change coding on ECUs, the ASC wont have the interface that we have. They have to use guided functions for everything and every coding action has to come from a remote server. The remote server must be configured with a separate variant name that will have the accessory installed and that means someone in headquarters has to approve the fitment of a footwell light.

Hence they take this shortcut of using substandard accessories which wont integrate well with the vehicle to avoid all this mess.
If someone asks the definition of corporate culture/red-tapism, you have explained it very well. I, really hope this post reaches someone at VW Skoda. I mean, you have the advantage of such mod-friendly architecture and platform and still, you guys are going the way of cheap-accessories fitment. This is one area which can be explored by Skoda VW to have ASC-level mods in their model, more of a post-purchase personalization.

Thanks a lot for sharing this! I was really missing the footwell lighting, as it was in my Polo but not in the Slavia. I found out about the slots and realized they’re the same size as the ones in the 6R models. So, I grabbed two and installed them last year. I was a bit hesitant to access the BCM, so I connected them directly to the fuse using a fuse tap.

Now that I know the correct pin to access, I’ll be adding footwell lights in the rear too.

Just one question though - the ones you installed aren’t OE footwell lights, right? Because the ones compatible with the Virtus/Taigun are from the Golf 8.

Didn’t understand this bit. For all MQB cars without multi colour ambient light, it’s the same lights and wiring. So the same lights are in every other MQB car as well.

Re: Skoda Slavia Review

Folks,

I have a very peculiar question. I parked my Slavia in open parking for one night in Mandya. I took it to car wash and while we were washing the under body with high pressure water, we found a Russel’s viper stuck to the underbody of the car below the dickey. What gives me the goosebumps is that I drove the car once before I took it to car wash and didn’t even realise that I was driving with a snake residing under my car.

I had them spray high pressure water over the underbody and they also sprayed the underbody and part of the engine with diesel spray to repel snakes and to ensure there are no more.

I am spooked as I am writing this. Even the car wash owner was spooked as this was the first time he had seen it. I needed advice,
1. How do I ensure there aren’t other snakes hiding anywhere in or under the car ?
2. Can the snake come inside the car from the underbody ? I checked the dickey, the place where the spare wheel tire is placed and the engine bay. We didn’t find any.
3. I am a little worried if the snake can leave its venom wherever it was on the underbody. I ensured that we sprayed high pressure water on the underbody.
4. Should I get underbody covering done for Slavia to keep rats and snakes away ? Any recommendations for this in BLR. How do I keep pests away from the car ? In BLR, I have covered car parking but while travelling I have parked outside for quite a while.

Dude, you were driving the Skoda version of the horse cart in the Hindi movie Nagina starring Sridevi and Rishi Kapoor. Have you checked if its male or female? If female then maybe ichhadhari nagin following you for some dues!

Watch from 3:45:

One such incident happened with me when I went to attend a marriage 150 kms away from my home town. The venue was in the outskirts and parking was at the roadside with lot usual bushes and wild vegetation.

I came back home and parked my car in the house under the body cover. Next day when took the body cover off to go out, I saw a giant black spider which we usually see in Hollywood movie. It was scary. I never saw such spider in real life, rather I used to think that such giant spiders are imagination of filmmakers. Definitely it came from the parking at the marriage venue.

Well, if its badluck then snake or any other insect, pests or other small animals can enter through the AC re-circulation vent duct coming from the engine-bay to cabin. It is usually covered using a plastic mesh grill but I found it dislocated sometimes in my Polo leaving the huge metal hole naked. Even a rat can enter inside the cabin through it.

The gap in the mesh is also not enough to prevent small snakes or other insects, but still there is bit of protection. Few times I had to put the mesh back in the place, its tricky but I know how to do it so I manage to plug it back.

My car usually remains parked for few days at home so I always make sure to keep the re-circulation set to cabin air circulation mode before leaving the car as precaution. That way the internal flap is completely shut preventing any insect enter inside the cabin. I am not aware of any other hole.

Recently my car started floating on water when the parking area got submerged in water after heavy rain. It remained there for few hours. When I checked for signs of water entering in the cabin, there were none except tinny bit of moisture under the spare wheel, maybe minute passing through the wedding joints but nothing else. The other possible holes are at the bottom of steering column and the foot pedals, never checked them.

When I had Maruti 800, there were lot of holes which were very easy to for the rats to access, even once rats spoiled interior of my 800. Modern cars have improved a lot over the cars from that era.

Underbody cover is not going to help in preventing even the rats, forget about pests. Though it prevents the engine from other risks like scrapping and flying stones so good to have it. My Polo came with it and its very protective in the above scenarios but rats easily enter in the engine bay. Once they have cut the underhood insulation. Thankfully no other major damage, or maybe I haven't yet noticed yet. Tobacco leaves are one remedy to keep the rats away.

Re: Skoda Slavia Review

Hello Team BHP & Skoda Slavia Community,
General Update on running & mods
I completed 15,000 kms this month, (18 months)

3 days ago passenger window of the car got stuck 4 inches below closed & I failed to raise it with either one of the switches in the car, yesterday morning when I took it to ASC in Greater Noida they found the issue within the hour & found out the power window motor is fried. They asked me wait for 3 hours so they could source a new motor from a bigger ASC with inventory & replaced both driver & passenger window motors stating some sort of callback on that specific part. (Effective Cost to Customer 0₹)

If anyone else is facing a similar issue, do visit ASC & get it checked out.

I got Morel Speakers (MK3 Front + MK2 Rear) installed to improve the quality of sound output, I used two component speaker sets for the front & back. For any sane listener who doesn't crave bass, these speakers provide more than enough mid bass & mid clarity to call it a real upgrade over stock VWAG 20W trash they install. All wiring was done neatly & setup was selected after careful consideration.
I added trimmed silicone water cones to save the new sets from water damage. You'll also need an adapter set for speakers if you're not planning to drill the door of the vehicle. (Total Expense 16k)

Adding a few photos of the upgrade, next time I'll post about my new spoiler & solid ABS Plastic parts I'm planning to install.

Re: Skoda Slavia Review

With heavy rains in Bangalore, I had to drive back home in heavy water logging and insanely jammed traffic all along Old Airport Road. In the 2 years and 17k kms, this trip stats is a new record for my Slavia 1.0 AT

The average speed is 6 kmph to cover 8 kms in close to 1.5 hours.

How did 1.0 AT gearbox perform during this tiresome 1.5 hour of journey through waterlogged roads?
Did the AT gearbox keep the car shifting between 1st and 2nd gear or was the car always in 1st gear for entire 1.5 hour of travel?

All through the grueling 1.5 hours, I didn't even think about the gears or switching to manual or using the paddles. In the city traffic, this Aisin 6AT is an absolute gem. Very smooth shifting and generally needs little to no attention in traffic. I've gotten used to the aggressive creep, so that's not really a issue either.

The thing that makes the experience a bit bad is to do with the front brakes - there's so much brake noise at crawling stop and go traffic. In addition, the hill hold is also configured very aggressively (3° or 5° inclination if I remember reading somewhere), and the sudden release from the hill hold combined with these grating sound from the brakes is very unappealing, and often even jerky. IMO, this creep mode experience could have been made a bit smoother overall but I think that has to do with the way VAG has tuned it, probably to avoid stalling and for sufficient torque from the smaller engine below effective turbo RPMs.

The traffic was extremely terrible, so the gearbox mostly operated in D1 when crawling forward. Shifts from D1->D2 are quite smooth 19/20 times, occasionally there's a very small jerk but really nothing significant.

I also felt like the gearbox has some kind of pattern learning. Since I spent most of the time in D1-D2, when traffic opened up after 1hr on the road and I accelerated normally, it kept the gear in D2 for 3-4 seconds without moving into D3. It was not jerky, but just seemed to hold onto D2 like never before. Maybe even the gearbox couldn't believe that the traffic had cleared, sort of .. The only explanation I can think of is some kind of pattern learning. I have read the the DSG does that, maybe the 6AT also does.

Was the GC enough to prevent water seeping into the engine bay and the cabin ?

Didn't have any issues with water ingress either in cabin or in the engine bay. I really don't think any other sedan would have done any better with regards to GC.

During a different time however I did notice that the approach angle isn't that great despite the GC, and with 4 people in the car a certain really bad speed breaker next to a 90° turn in the road scraped the bottom once. But this was a really really bad speedbreaker.

Re: Skoda Slavia Review

I was driving in BTM 2nd stage in Bengaluru today when I was rear ended by a BMTC bus. It caused some paint to chip off of my Slavia but thankfully no dents or damage to the rear lights. This is my first car and I am understandably pissed. I noted down the bus registration number and even have the dashcam footage which shows the bus rear ending my car in B2B traffic. But I didn't clean my rear windshield so the bus registration number isn't visible in the footage. I noted it down after I came to the side and the bus was departing from the bus stop.

1. The paint has chipped off in two places in the rear bumper. Its small but when you look at it closely its not pretty especially for a ~2 month old car. Should I claim insurance for this considering the fact that I would lose my NCB next year during renewal ? Any idea how much would repainting the rear bumper cost ? Any good FNGs that can fix this, should I even consider an FNG for a brand new car ?

2. Any way I can complain to BMTC ? Its India so its a long shot anything meaningful would come out of this but still want folks to beware of idiot bus drivers like that. I am linking the video of the incident as well. The rear end happens at 00:09-00:10s

Your anger is understandable but the damage is not much to merit the hassle of fighting with BMTC Zombies. You can go to any decent body shop like Trends Automobile & get this fixed for a nominal amount. In B2B traffic in Bangalore this is bound to happen sooner or later so don't stress too much over it.

Re: Skoda Slavia Review

Hello fellow bhpians, I am writing this post to seek an opinion. Attached herewith are images of a dent in the right rear door, near the bottom. While the circumstances of the dent, are still a mystery, the car has caught a fair no of scratches and dents, so decided to give it to the SVC, and gave them a call for repair as well as general service ( current ODO- 10890 KMS ). Now , I sent the same images to the SVC. They were of the opinion of replacing the entire rear door, instead of fixing the dent. Would like to know the opinion of other members whether they're fleecing me, or it warrants a whole door replacement.
