Re: Jeep Meridian Review

After a great deal of research (in no small part thanks to our members here), I’m zeroing in on the Meridian 4x4 AT Ltd (O).

The car looks very handsome and I believe it offers a terrific overall package.

Question for anyone who may have made inquiries or purchased this model: what price did you negotiate? Any freebies?

Congratulations on the decision. It is a lovely car indeed once you can wrap your head around the fact that you are overpaying in some measure.

Linked post below is the pricing deal I got which I had put out in my ownership thread. The available discount is via the super-inflated insurance amount they quote (so its kind of artificial in that sense).

I did not get any discounts or freebies on accessories. The accessories I purchased (for reference) are also elsewhere in the linked post.

I booked super early and my general sense is that the Meridian hasn't exactly flown off the shelves. I would encourage you to push for more discounts if dealers are now amenable to sweeten the deal further to convert inquiries into sales. Let them feel you're actively shopping for other models as well so they go the extra mile to "convert" your booking.

Some other suggestions

1. Please do the PDI for sure very carefully. I have heard of too many instances of PDI related shortcomings (including one in my case covered in my own ownership thread, despite my doing the PDI). Tell them in particular to pay attention to the battery charged status and voltage before delivery, although this should ideally sort itself out after a few 100 kms of running.

2. If you're keen on the number plate frame accessory, make it very clear to them to purchase that up front and NOT to "rivet" the HSRP plate into the bumper before the frame arrives. Once you do that, its not possible (or not elegant) to subsequently install the number plate frame. I had asked them for the frame but someone in the showroom jumped the gun and riveted number plate to the bumper before the frame arrived. So couldn't install that accessory.

I had always made it clear that I would not be paying this astronomical amount towards insurance and I expect this to be shaved off in the ultimate bill. I didn’t try to press them to remove handling charges etc - one way or the other they also will try to make their margins, but my ultimate on road price included a 96k discount on insurance, bringing the final purchase price to a shade under 44.25L. Costs of accessories and extended warranty were over and above so one can assuming factoring all of that I will ultimately have paid approximately 45 lakh.

For 4x2 AT Ltd(O) in Bangalore, you can definitely get freebies. I booked and got the step (listed price 22k) and a few other things.

But I suspect that's also because they're saying they have a car in stock which a previous buyer canceled on. If there's no 4x4 in stock (apparently here in Bangalore they aren't), I think it's going to be tough to get discounts.

I bought the Meridian 4x2 AT Ltd (O) from Landmark Mumbai without the bundled insurance and saved around Rs. 110,000 by buying the same insurance separately. I would recommend that others do the same instead of buying the car with insurance and getting some freebies from the dealer.

I purchased my Meridian 4X2 limited O from landmark delhi and I can tell you they are a very shabby dealership. Please please do your PDI carefully on your own. My car battery was dead at the time of delivery. Imagine all song and dance and photos of delivery happened and when I sat in the car to drive off, it didnt start. They had the audacity of trying to jumpstart my new car with another car standing next to it when I raised a hue and cry and asked them to change the battery. The battery was changed but that lead to too many problems as the entire computerized electronic error messaging system needs to be reset after battery change which they did not know. After battery change, my dashboard started showing many error messages which had to be rectified by taking the car to their warehouse where the laptop was used to recheck and remove errors. Overall a harrowing experience.
No freebies offered, just negotiate like hell on the insurance part.

Re: Jeep Meridian Review

Am planning to go for the 4X4 AT Limited (O) @ Chennai. No discounts other than the insurance reductions as highlighted by AXE77.

Dealers oflate are inflating the insurance cost and then highlighting to customers as discounts. An uninformed customer would definitely see these as discounts while these actually are not.

And so net net no discounts for the Jeep Meridian as of date. :(

A perfect size is constrained by our requirements mainly. What is perfect for some will be too small / too large for others.

I would argue that the Harrier is just too large for a 5-seater. In fact, that is the only single reason there is no Dark Edition AT parked in my garage. That car is brilliant otherwise IMHO - in terms of looks, value, and even technology (6 AT especially) on offer.

I am facing a peculiar issue with my Meridian. The driver seat ventilation switches on automatically everytime I start the car. It has to be manually turned off then. Are you facing the same issue with your meridian ?? Want to check if this is by design or a fault.

Re: Jeep Meridian Review

Thanks!

Did any of you opt for Ceramic Coating or PPF offered by the dealership?

Not sure of the quality Jeep offers. I’m exploring where to get Ceramic Coating & whether there’s a reasonably priced & good quality PPF option anyone may have come across.

Thanks! Yes, insurance cost is surely artificially inflated which is where I'm getting a "discount". No other freebies. I wonder how many Meridians were sold in July; perhaps there may be room for discounts in August.

The car is an absolute beauty IMO. Good equipment list. Road presence may not be as monstrous as a Fortuner or an Alturas, but it has its charm.

Your tips are absolutely on-point! Thanks.
Did you get PPF / Ceramic Coating? Jeep offers something for approx 25k which I'm considering.

Hey buddy. Thanks for the comments. I haven’t opted for the Jeep PPF and personally I’m still not convinced about PPF per se.

I haven’t researched this at all to have a view on Jeep PPF but intuitively I think if I were to ever consider it I’d look for super specialists in the space and not get it from Jeep.

Since I'm considering a white colored car, I've been advised to choose Ceramic Coating over PPF. General advice seems to be to get it on a new car. Jeep sells this for 25k while specialists offer this for 20k to 35k depending on number of years of warranty. May be worth considering?

Your research skills are top notch - I couldn't find a single source reporting the figures yet!

What do you make of these numbers?

Look at the positive side. More Meridians in 2 months than Kodiaqs in a whole year
