My main requirements are to have a comfortable, reliable, silent petrol car with automatic transmission.
Creta SX(O) IVT will be a much better option considering it has premium interior, much better sound system, fit n finish, powered seats, bigger boot, more rear seat space and headroom and will cost around 21L in your city. You also save 3L. IVT will return around 12-13kmpl city as compared to 22 in vitara and 17 on highway as compared to 19 of vitara. So F.E should not be much of a deal breaker. And you get a better car experience at the same time, the part sharing in grand vitara is on next level. Just sit in Brezza, Baleno and vitara back to back and see for yourself. Not worth the 24L.

Re: Maruti Grand Vitara Review

Since the summer is pretty much here, how are the owners feeling about the thin sunroof shade heating up the car?

The AC is super chill. So never felt that the film is super thin.

How long does it run on the EV mode at 110kmph?

No idea actually. It keeps on shuffling between EV and ICE modes seamlessly.

Reason I asked is an ICE car will also "coast" on fumes at steady speeds.

I guess it wont be long as the battery only gets charged with regenerative braking when the brakes are applied which isnt very often on highways. So on highways you see lesser mileage than on the city roads.

It's a Hybrid, battery gets charged by the engine primarily and not only by regenerative braking. The car starts in EV mode if battery has enough juice. Once car accelerates or battery goes down, the ICE kicks in. Once the battery is charged and you're maintaining a constant speed, it does shift to battery. Since I was not driving the car, I'll check and let you know.

The city mileage has been around 25kmpl. This car went on its first long highway drive and returned these figures. The route was on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Time difference is due to stoppage enroute.

Thanks for sharing this. The numbers show that the car is excellent inside the city and average on the highway. Anyone who has pure city use should get the hybrid. If share of highways is high then, a diesel or a normal petrol makes equal or more sense.

The engine has to burn fuel to generate power to charge the EV if and when it is charging without regenerative braking. Energy can only change form, not generated out of no-where. One can't change physics. So, the efficiency of a pure and efficient ICE engine will return better efficiency than a hybrid car when it is charging the battery without regenerative braking (highway situation without much braking).

I agree, & will go further to say that if one's annual running is low to medium (say upto 12k kilometres in one year) then "Petrol only" car makes sense.

If one running is higher than 12k KMs per year , then WHERE becomes important .

At least 75% of the running in the city: go for Hybrid
At least 75% of the running on the highway: go for Diesel

So the South African Grand Vitara gets the old K15B engine with the old 4 speed automatic?

But the AWD gets the same K15C engine as we do, and with the 6 speed automatic?

So looks like we can also expect AWD automatic in future.
