(

Just hit the 20k mark with my Vitara alpha manual mild hybrid. The 20k service cost about 12.6k. Can the others advise if this is ok or did i overpay?

Overpaid by a long margin! Always check the company website or their app for service cost and the booklet for items to be done in the service. My Hyryder hybrid 20k km service costed 6k post gst.

Did you have an extended free service with toyota? So Labour would have been free. In my case i think the 12k was equally split between labor and actual parts (synthetic oil change being the most expensive at 3k)
I'm guessing this is the website you mean
https://www.marutisuzuki.com/service#
As per this even an oil change is not needed at 20k

Nope, no extended free service or package. It was in line with the company estimated cost on the app for parts and labour. Check on your Maruti app for the estimated cost. Post your bill pic, you must have done extra things done.

You were really taken for a ride by this A.S.S and most of the services/items listed are unnecessary. What infuriates me is the engine oil they have used; 5W40. Please, please, get this changed ASAP and have them change it for free citing the user manual which clearly recommends 0W16. If they don't, make sure to escalate this to Maruti since this weight of oil can ruin your engine. Not sure how many kilometres you have driven post this change but get it replaced with 0W16. Lastly, make sure you give them a piece of your mind and never return to this centre. A road side mechanic will do a better job than them.
I see you're located at Jaipur. If Malviya Nagar isn't too far off from your area, visit KTL Nexa workshop located at Malviya Nagar Industrial Area and ask for Shubham or Farmaan. Disclaimer: I have no association with KTL Nexa and I personally get my vehicle serviced from them.

Why the engine oil is 5W-40 ?
Mild Hybrid K15C recommended oil is 0W-16 I think, even the K12 recommended oil is 0W-20 to the best of my knowledge. The famous Fiat SDE aka 1.3 DDis diesel engine plonked in Maruti cars had 5W-30 oil recommendation.
Am I missing something here or the dealer ended up filling wrong oil in your car ?
Most of the items in your bill are not required. Looks like you got scammed to me. Please please escalate this immediately to Maruti and change that. Oil immediately as others have pointed out !!
Why is glass run spray required?
Valve door gasket cannot be removed and refitted it has to be replaced, did you have any signs of oil leakage around your cylinder head?
Microfibres cloth why have they billed you, did you ask for it ?
Also could not understand what is that labor for brake calliper one side to other side ?
Serious problem in your billing !!

Seems like a common con practice by Maruti service centres where they're up-selling synthetic oil but the wrong grade. They claim the cars come from factory with synthetic oil and we should continue to use the same later too. The can of 5w40 synthetic oil sells for double the price of the 0w16 semisynthetic one. And they're using this wrong grade oil for all the cars coming to them for service.
Last week while getting the 3rd service done for my Brezza (P) I was cajoled to opt for Quartz 5w40 synthetic oil. I pointed out the wrong grade but the SA seemed ignorant. He was ready to offer me the 0w16 semisynthetic oil which he said comes in big barrels. Finally I showed him the service manual and he happily took out another unsealed jar which he claimed contained the exact measure of 0w16.
Oh wow, this is pathetic. Will try and connect with the service center and Maruti but have very little hope they'll do anything useful.
I checked the manual and i can see that a 5W-30 oil is recommended outside of India. 5W-40 just might give me better high temp performance. Not too worried about cost but am a bit worried about engine damage and not willing to get another pricy oil change.
Is it absolutely necessary for the wellbeing of the engine?

Please escalate to the Service Manager and they are bound to change the oil for free (maybe fight for refund for the extra amount they charged for the wrong oil grade). It was their duty to fill in the correct grade of oil as per the manual and they made a mistake (or intentionally duped you).
PS: The semisynth 0w16 oil costs only 1600 bucks compared to 3300 they charged you for the synth 5w40.
I know because I paid 2500 for the 3rd free service (of Brezza) last week.

Yes.
Golden rule for a healthy engine with long life - Change the engine oil at the correct intervals (or before it) and fill it with the recommended oil grade only. The internals are designed to run based on the above conditions.
Hello All,
Hope everyone is keeping well.
I have been trying to find experiences of fellow riders about Grand Vitara All Grip performance on hills while being fully loaded but unfortunately I have not been able to find any.
I live in hills in Uttrakhand and I am planning to buy GV ALL grip. But I have been reading lots of negative reviews regarding GV being severely underpowered.
I understand the stats of the engine are towards the lower side as compared to others in the segment but how bad is it?

I escalated this through the entire chain, sent mails to everyone upto the regional service manager for North. Absolutely zero response.
The service center now keeps harassing me with calls multiple times a day. All they do is make me talk to the service engineer who's been reassuring me that this is the best oil to use. And that all the charges are justified, prealigned etc etc.
So guess the only solution is to find another service center. Also i guess sitting through the entire service, while a waste of time, is needed.

I have been using an AllGrip for the last two and a half years and I can say for sure that this model is far from underpowered. I haven't driven a non AWD GV so I cannot comment on those variants but mine is like a "pocket rocket" in 'sport' mode, as I believe I have said earlier here, especially from a standstill.
The only hilly terrain I have actually driven on is the ghat section between Mumbai and Pune, with my wife and light luggage and I switch to 'sport' mode as soon as the uphill section of the ghat begins, just to have the extra power when I need it. Its not very effective in 4th or 5th gear but in in the first three gears, tackling the ghats is a breeze, especially in stop-and-go traffic jams that are quite frequent on these sections.
Hope this helps.

If you are using sports mode on ghats and still able to use only 1, 2nd or 3rd gear then definitely an underpowered car for Uttarakhand mountains. Unless I understood the message wrong.
