Re: Toyota Innova Hycross Review

I was just wondering if I could get an idea on how the Vx(O) variant is? or any views on Zx(O)?

I recently moved abroad, but my family is still in India. We have always had the Innova in our garage - we had the OG Innova 2.5 (2013-2019) and Innova Crysta 2.7 (2019-2022); and other than that, currently have 2021 VW Taigun and 2019 Toyota Corolla Altis.

We will be selling the Corolla to make space for the Innova Hycross (don't need three cars now) and was told by the dealer that they don't know if Zx/Zx(O) will be available anytime soon but they can arrange for a Vx(O).

My heart is inclined towards the Zx(O) as I have used the Toyota Safety Sense in some other cars, and find it very useful, plus find the extra features worth it. I will be in the country next week, and will visit the dealership.

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross Review

I was servicing my corolla today and got a chance to drive NA hycross and hybrid back to back on same loop(10kms) where I experienced bumper to bumper city (30%) and rest highway speeds of 80-100 kmph

For relative comparison, my NA manual corolla altis returns around 13kmpl for this stretch

Hycross GX - returned me around 12.4kmpl
Hycross hybrid - returned around 16kmpl

Surprisingly the acceleration and noise insulation etc felt pretty same in both with the typical CVT artificial revving. Only in bumper to bumper traffic, hybrid switches to full EV and becomes absolutely silent at crawling speeds. At highway speeds, there is no noticeable difference in terms of performance and cabin noise.

For those on low running, regular GX might be a practical choice as one can expect decent economy on this engine(10-14 kmpl) and hybrid might only make sense for those with high running( 7 lakh is a huge premium)

Sadly top end ZX variants booking are not yet open Toyota ADAS felt intuitive and not very intrusive as it complimented my driving style well ( tried lane change with/without indicators etc)

SA mentioned that they are not taking any new booking for the GX limited edition so that is the only bummer.

As a Hycross VX Hybrid user, which has run close to 13000 Kms in 4 months of ownership, the car gives about 15-16 Kmpl when driven in the city while on highways, it gives around 17-18 Kmpl and did a highway trip, which I got the mileage of 17.5 Kmpl in T2T method when the car was few weeks old and run close to 3000 Kms at that time.
I have driven my Hycross Hybrid VX for 7000 kms in 7 months. Quite satisfied with its response, power, comfort, practicality and fuel-efficiency.
I am getting 18-19 kmpl on Highway and around 20-21 kmpl in City traffic.
Fuel-efficiency in any car is dependent upon your driving style. For driving hybrid vehicles, the throttle needs to be pressed gently. Use "HOLD button" while driving in stop and go traffic. We should never use Neutral in eCVTs.
Overall, buying a Hycross Hybrid has been one of the best decisions made by me after my car hunt.

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross Review

I have driven my Hycross vx hybrid for around 4,200 kms in 25 days of ownership, the mileage I get on highway runs is around 18-19 kmpl .
One thing which i have noticed is the throttle is a gentle baby, the more gentle you are the better results it will give you. On the city front I get around 20 kmpl which is amazing as my Endeavour 3.2 gives around 7-8kmpl .
The one thing which I absolutely hate about this car is the headlights, on a recent highway run when it was drizzling during the night seeing clearly became a task .

Agree 100%. The headlights are no good in rain. So far I have been ignoring the comments by others about the headlight as I never faced this issue during night drive. Felt it was adequate. My last trip to Kerala via Kumaly, the lights were barely useful in a light Misty rain in Ghat roads.

Planning to have projector fog lamps installed. I have VX variant, can the dealer install it.

My dealer has outright said a no to this , he is of the opinion that any aftermarket installation will void the warranty, i have also adopted for the extended warranty so i don’t want to take any chances.
On the other hand i have written to Toyota in this regard , let us see if they can offer any help .

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross Review

Since everyone is sharing their fuel efficiency figures, here's mine for the past week with the full tank - full tank method

Toyota Innova Hycross Review-img_5053.jpg
Fueled up to full tank at 7660 KMs

Toyota Innova Hycross Review-img_56151.jpg
Fueled up to full tank again at 8350 KMs. Ignore the trip meter as it only shows the mileage since the car was currently started. It drops rapidly if you keep it idling since you are basically traveling 0 kms which means 0kmpl.

Toyota Innova Hycross Review-img_5616.jpg
It took 38.53L to fill it up the second time which gives us the amount of fuel used in between. Refueled both times at the same pump.

Distance travelled : 690 kms
Fuel consumed = 690 / 38.53 = 17.9KMPL

This was mostly over hilly roads as I drove from Angamaly to Pattanamthitta and back through Pala. The road was pretty decent and my dad and I had a hoot on the hairpins in sport mode. Very happy with the mileage since it is around the same as what I get on my diesel i20 which is way smaller and lighter.

One thing to note is that the mileage of the Hycross drops rather fast if the car needs to recharge the hybrid battery while it is staying still or crawling in traffic. The engine never idles in the Hycross, it either revs up high in order to charge or it will just turn off. It doesn't seem to be as efficient at charging the car while staying still as when a percentage of engine power also goes to turn the wheels. You can give a slight kick on the accelerator to force the engine to turn on during normal driving to recharge the battery if you know that you will be stopped for a significant time later on. I do this when I know I will be approaching a railway crossing gate or signal to ensure the car doesn't turn on to power the AC while I'm stopped.

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross Review

Hi All,

Happy to share that finally got the delivery for Innova Hycross ZX (O) in the Blackish Ageha. I got the car on the 6th on December. The car was invoiced of the 30th Nov. The manufacturer month is 11/23. I have driven round 100 km. It’s is much better to drive than the Crysta GX Automatic I upgraded from. I will share my experience once I have more kilometres on the ODO meter. Booking for this car was done during the week of the launch.

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross Review

I have got the delivery of Invicto and just wanted to report that the headlights seemed to be more than enough for the job even on undivided roads. My previous car was Crysta Zx and i feel the headlights are better in Invicto than Crysta.I was thinking after reading many negative reviews about Hycross headlights, that maybe the headlight unit is different for both cars.

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross Review

My Pearl White Innova HyCross ZX(O) completed its third service on this Monday (11th Dec) as it was completing 20,000 kms and the service cost came to 7500 INR. Short write up on the experience so far is as below

What I Liked
• Car is even more spacious in comparison with my old Innova. The shoulder room in the car feels better than my old Innova, elbow needs to travel couple of inches more to find a resting place
• Amount of space available for the second row is enormous
• Elevated Driving position, a visible bonnet for a change. I am yet to get used to the dimensions, especially when taking tight curves
• Adaptive cruise control along with other ADAS features gives the feel of a semi self-drive car.
• It moves and behaves like a car. Though the vehicle looks big, it is very easy to drive it in the city traffic, it gives a sedan like driving experience even in congested Bangalore traffic.
• Steering is very light, helps a lot while parking etc
• 2 zone Climate Control is nice, they could have provided a three zone one
• Very Good AC, 2nd and 3rd row vents help with this
• A reasonably good music system
• Rear seat comfort, my wife prefers the ottoman seats more than the passenger seat
• Silent start of the car never fails to surprise people standing next to it, this along with the good suspension provides a glide like feel
• This car will surprise you and leave a smile on your face in power mode
• Very good mileage for a car of its size, usually gets about 20 kmpl (5 l /100 kms) in the city and have seen it falling to 5.6 l /100 kms during highway drives

What I do not like
• Even though the Central console is not blocking the visibility for me, at times I feel blinded by the Inside Rear-View mirror, the blacked out area is significantly large
• Way too many sensors. It even warns if the window glass is not fully up, or if the head light is on while switching off the car. Alarms go off in such cases. Many settings are via a combination of switches and requires a bit of getting used to
• Music system could have been better, sound is not rich
• Getting in and out of the car requires bit of getting used. Side step is not available even as an accessory
• Some missing options like the lock/unlock buttons are not illuminated, ORVM is not heated, auto wipers, heated seats, follow me home lights
• Yet to figure out how to set the TPMS warning
• Brakes are not confidence inspiring, it is bit vague at times
• Engine can get really loud when the hybrid battery is out of charge, the sound in such case is annoying
• Car takes time to respond while accelerating hard
• There are two buttons on the back door, one for closing and the other for close and lock. The second button is inconsistent with its behaviour
• There is a setting via MID to remind the driver that there are items kept on the back seat. One would need to navigate through multiple clicks to arrive at the setting. Initially, I thought some sensor might have failed, only to figure out later that it is a setting. This setting is only on showing the alert in MID, iConnect app occasionally sends the alert even when the setting is off.
• Though the captain seats in the rear gets 4 way electronic adjustments, front passenger seat is fully manual
• Little more travel for the driver’s seat would have helped tall drivers
• Rear seatbelt warning continues to chime if one shifts seats after the car is in motion
• Knee hits the central console while driving, experience is better if the leg is placed on the dead pedal fully
• Blow from the ventilated seats could have been stronger, there is audible sound at max speed. The airflow seems to be limited to the top and thigh end of the seats, not to the portions in between.
• 360 degree camera should have been better, resolution is not good and it is non usable in sunlight
• My earlier Innova had a light colour interior, similar colour would have provided a roomy feel to the cabin
• User manual is available only via the i-Connect app, it is not user friendly. I was not able to find a PDF version either
• i-Connect app has a mind of its own and it is buggy

Issues faced
• Left 360 degree camera stopped working within a month of purchase, was replaced under warranty. Took 2-3 days for them to investigate and agree that it was an issue with the part
• Infotainment systems crashes once in a while, not able to identify a pattern. Sometimes it happens while on long drives, sometimes it happens while on short drives with in the city

Accessories added
• Grill jewel garnish
• Front under run
• Side visor
• Mud guard
• Floor and Trunk mats, fabric
• DVR
• Rear bike protector
• Underbody coating

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross Review

Today after parking my car at work, I started getting this notification every minute. It was about abnormal vehicle movement detection. The car was parked, with no movement at all. I turned on and off the car and stopped getting this warning.

Toyota Innova Hycross Review-f4db6e113a5b4396933385c950d12995.jpg

What does this mean? This could be an error with the sensors, but this can be very unnerving.

Booking post

I had made 2 booking in Sep end. Today I got a sms which states that I could track my booking sequence. Link - https://bta.qristix.com/.

Following are the status, if someone could help me decode what they mean by waiting period in the first screenshot - "next update in Feb".
Does this mean that my vehicle is expected to be delivered in Feb, as I am the first in the queue ?

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross Review

Hello, fellow BHPians,

Auto door unlock feature when the car is put on parking mode - has anyone been able to activate this feature? I have tried several times as per the steps given in the brochure and some posts here but could not.

thanks, Nitin
