Re: Toyota Innova Hycross Review

Completed 50k Kms on the odo with our Hycross recently and the present odo is at 50,184 Kms.

This feat was done in under 2 years of ownership (17 months to be precise).

My dad will be sending the car for 50k Kms service this week, mostly.

Hello Fellow Mech

Hi all,

I have recently joined Team-BHP. I have been going through a lot of information through this site to understand how some machines operate better than the other, but why it is better to go with something else.

Understandably, this creates a ton of confusion. As for me, my confusion is related to deciding the finance type to buy the first car for myself.

I am based out of Uttar Pradesh, the government here is providing 100% subsidy on RTO. My first choice is to buy Innova Hycross ZX(O), but open to change.

I have sufficient funds to make 100% payment upfront and I can get a "BH" number, as my company have registered office in 5 states. The cost of the car comes to around INR 31,35,000.00 (without insurance, TCS, etc., but includes RTO).

My company also have the option of providing me with Car Lease program, but here, my total cost over three years will be INR 44,30,000.00 (without insurance, TCS, but includes RTO), as the car is provided through a third party lease company, who charge their "interest rate" and then there is additional tax on monthly lease rental value + the final residual value. The car registration through car lease program will be at Delhi RTO.

However, this will help reduce my monthly income by approx. INR 1,05,000.00, helping me save on the taxes. There are no tax savings on the final residual value. In lease program, I will be the second owner after the lease period ends and will not get BH number option.

As the delivery takes around 10-odd months, I am not even sure if UP government will withdraw subsidy on hybrids and I may end up paying for RTO eventually.

So, I am very confused on which option to go with. I have already stretched my budget whose upper limit was around 25L initially. Any option to increase the budget is out of the realms of any possibility for me.

I really hope and prefer not to wait so long and I am not interested in EV, due to lack of charging infrastructure, time taken as I am required to travel frequently to other cities. I am open to an alternate options.

Any and every inputs will be highly appreciated. At the same time, please share your experience with Hycross (even though I read a few conflicting ones, especially related to battery and services, while some had been very good).

Thanks in advance.

Responding with 15 months of Hycross ZXO experiences.

Absolutely agree. Very easy to drive even in the city.

I (and many others) do find this a bit of a challenge as you may have read earlier on in this thread. No easy solutions either. However, the other aspects on the car are amazing to a degree that I am willing to live with this.

Not faced this issue. Breaks are excellent, very predictable.

The car is very quick off the blocks & gains speed quite rapidly. Has adequate power, rapid acceleration as available on specifications/ various portals and tests. yes, it is noisy if you floor the pedal, but I did not find a need to - it is quick even without doing that. Would assume this is more of getting used to the vehicle/ expectation from the vehicle.

May not be a fan of ADAS but some aspects are actually quite useful on this car. Blind spot monitor, Occasional Dynamic Cruise control to rest your foot, alerts on need to break if at a higher speed than vehicle expects, in order to stop safely.

Yes, there are a few challenges like the lights but overall, it is great fit based on my requirements and am a more than satisfied user. There isn't an alternate vehicle that ticked all boxes for me.

Fully Agree. I find it a fun to drive vehicle.

3. Audio System Upgrade:
The stock music system was very average especially in terms of bass and clarity. The rear coaxial speakers weren’t doing much either. I even had a post on our forum seeking advice. Then I reached out to my friend Chirag_Bir , a Team-BHP member, who recommended Ramiee, a highly reputed installer.

After discussing my requirements with Ramiee, we decided on a 10-channel active setup and a sub woofer with the stock head unit. The mods included:
* Front Speakers: ESB Audio 3000 Series 3.6K3 3-way Kit Active Set
* Rear Speakers: ESB Audio 2000 Series 2.6K 2-way Components
* DSP: Onkyo X-MD20 10-channel DSP/AMP (HiRes)
* Amplifiers: Hammertech ECA475 Class-D 4-channel
* Amplifier:Hammertech LCA650.1 Class-D MonoBlock
* Subwoofer: Sundown Audio LCS10v2
* Soundproofing: Standard Group Noise Control
* Sound Damping

Did you use front 3 way speakers high level input for DSP ?

What are these holes in the underbody? Why is this not pre-installed in the factory/plant?

Yes I too have them in my glove box, And the Dealership has no clue about this
Thanks for the research - I will install it myself.

The brakes have adequate bite, but you won't feel the car shaking (like other cars where you are thrown forward when you brake), hence the illusion of not having enough braking power.

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross Review

I visited a showroom in Bangalore this week enquiring about the Hycross and was told both the VXO and ZXO models are ready for delivery. This took me by a bit of surprise. Have the overall waiting periods come down or are these available due to people in queue refusing to take a year end manufactured vehicle?

The holes for sidestep are round in nature and are sealed with plugs made up of plastic and not rubber. I saw them when I got sidestep installed.

Some customers do not prefer to take delivery in December as the car will theoretically turn 1 year old in a month.

I assume either these cars have been sitting with dealer for some time or Toyota billed them to the dealership in December and customer denied purchase.
If the dealer is not able to move them before end of December, then the dealer will be forced to sell these VX(O) and ZX(O) at some discounted price.

Toyota increased price of Hycross hybrids by ₹36,000 couple of days back. If these cars were billed to dealer before price increase, the cars remain unsold till Jan 2025 and the dealer has to move them with some discounts, even then the dealer does not lose much as they were getting about ₹36k more from what was billed to them.

You can express your interest to buy one this month if you have finalized Hycross Hybrid and see if the dealer provides some discount or freebies.

How many such holes are there, 2 or 4? The picture of plugs and the reference video posted earlier showed only 2 of them, and only on left side of the car which sounded weird.

She tells me someone will call back and nobody calls back. The showroom is far away from where I reside. I can go to the showroom for test drive provided someone confirms GX or GX(O) is available for test drive. Hybrid variant is out of budget and my running is less than 10k per year.

Can you send me salesperson contact on DM if possible?

There only two oval shaped holes, one on each side near front tyre.

Sidestep is installed using four circular holes.

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross Review

Finally took the plunge after a lot of back and forth and upgraded the fog lamps on my HyCross.

Went with Aozoom FLP2030 Fog Projectors in its single colour variant ie. White since the tri-colour version has some flickering issues as I found out from other members.

Sharing some before and after pictures:

With the old fog lights switched on only, headlight’s low beam is switched off. The OEM fog lights have a very small area of coverage and from the driver’s seat they are almost non-existent in terms of lighting up the road ahead.

Both the coupler and frame of this particular light is made to replace Toyota’s OEM 2 inch fog light, without any kind of modification done to the OEM bumper bracket and no tampering of wires. These are bi-beam LED projectors and have not activated the high beam function since it would require tapping the headlight’s high beam, which the Toyota dealership from where I got these installed suggested not to.

With all lights switched on: Fog Lights + Low beam and High beam of the headlights here.

Got these fog light projectors installed at the dealership from where I’ve purchased the car from, effectively keeping my warranty intact with proper paperwork (Toyota’s letter-head bill and Aozoom’s warranty card) to support the same in case there is an issue in the future.

In the aftermarket the same lights would’ve costed me ₹2-2.5k lesser including installation, but paid the premium for peace of mind and the dealership supposedly gets a lot of HyCross’ for this upgrade, there was another HyCross after mine which had come for the same upgrade.

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross Review

I don’t know where to share it so sharing it here is it just me or does anyone else who owns a Big Toyota (Innova/Fortuner) feel like people associate or attach you with certain personalities that you may be not real-life, it is that people just think that if you are driving a certain type of car then you just don’t care about anything else or you just may be a rash driver/douchebag or just some rich dude who doesn’t give a shit about anything.
