Re: Toyota Innova Hycross Review

I have been driving for 16 years now and not once have been involved in an accident. As luck would have it, it happened in my less than one month old Hycross and totally my mistake! I attribute it to my lack of familiarity with the automatic cars and electronic parking brakes.

Had to park the car on a road that was a little inclined and while parking had to do a little bit of reverse and forward to get it in position. Just as I was about to find the right parking position a thought crossed my mind, in a manual car we use the clutch and brake to to ensure that the car does not roll back on an incline, what do I need to do with this car? As I was thinking about this, the car was in reverse gear and maybe the thought distracted me. I wanted to move forward and the moment I took my foot off the brake, the car started moving back, at that point of time, due to all the thoughts running in my mind I did not realize that car is in reverse gear. I thought, the car is moving back due to the incline so put my foot on the brakes and engaged the parking button.

Since I wanted to move the car forward now, I pressed the accelerator and with the car in reverse gear it moved back and banged into the car parked behind me. By the time I realized the the mistake that I made with the car in reverse gear, it was too late and had hit the car behind me. End result, a dent on my trunk door and a bit of damage to the front grill of the Ford Ecosport parked behind me.

I have my first service scheduled tomorrow and will get the damages fixed, not sure what it would take, just fixing the dent and paint or more. Will give an update once I meet the service center guys tomorrow.

Takeaways and questions from the incident
1) Extremely painful to see this happen to your new car.
2) I was thinking I am getting comfortable driving an automatic car and driving it is easy, never know what kind of challenges comes your way till you get fully comfortable with the car.
3) Still not sure if I am at an incline, is there a chance of the car rolling back (of course not when in reverse but in drive)? What is the best thing to do if that happens? Any inputs from the group to handle the situation will be helpful.

Which variant of the hycross do you own? Some of the top variants should have hill hold assist feature. If your vehicle is equipped with hill hold assist, when you are stopped on an incline, depress the brake pedal completely and then release it. The vehicle will hold the brakes for 2 more seconds. During those two seconds, slowly accelerate with gentle input and you will move forward. Try doing this on an incline with no traffic to get yourself familiarised.

All variants of Hycross come with auto hold, which can be used for hill starts as-well.

Thank you very much Amalji, I checked the feature list and all models of Hycross have Vehicle Stability Control + Hill Start Assist.

This video is super helpful, will look to try this out on an incline with no traffic. Appreciate your inputs.

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross Review

My car is a VXO variant. The steering mounted audio control buttons (volume and seek) do not work while the screen is displaying feed from the 360 degree camera. I have to wait for the feed to go off or switch it off manually to regain functionality. Has anyone else noticed it and is there a way around this?

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross Review

Hi folks,

So, I will finally be receiving our Hycross (VXO PEARL WHITE) sometimes next week. We were next in line but I guess the person before me did not take the car for some reason and the same is now being delivered to us

Competed the PDI. Things looked good. Car was manufactured in March 2025 and had only 11kms on odometer with the new HEV badging. I was initially charged around 1.1L for insurance, gave the dealership an approx 70k quotation from Tata AIG and the dealership agreed to provide the same. They did resist a bit telling me about battery and what not but eventually agreed.

I also opted for extended warranty, electrical (DVR, leg room lamp) and cosmetic accessories & Toyota's ceramic coating package. I could have saved some here. But did not want to get into the hassle of negotiating, finding shops selling good quality accessories in my city, risks of warranty getting void etc.

I have some queries and it would be helpful if someone can clarify these:
  • Can we replace the space saver spare wheel with a full sized one?
  • Positives & negatives of replacing the 17-inch tyres with the 18-inch ones & approx cost for the same. Any other tyre size I can opt for? I enquired the dealership regarding the same. But they won't deduct price of old tyres so that's a no-no.
  • Anyone who has installed wheel arch claddings? Any reputable place to purchase them? Can I get the parts from Invicto or higher ZX/ZXO trims and use that?
  • Any known issues or gotchas I need to keep in mind?

Lastly, my purchase experience Toyota:

Espirit Toyota was horrible. I had literally walked out of the showroom because of their staff behavior. They were forcing me to go for petrol engine when I specifically wanted hybrid. Heck, one of their guy made me sit and began explaining why I should go for petrol engine instead of Hybrid. I could not comprehend their reasons for doing so. But, I was disappointed with such experience and walked out in middle of discussion with a hot temper.

Capital Toyota has been pretty chill so far. I won't term it the best. But, they gave me no reason to feel bad either. Mostly polite talks, they take time to listen and answer your questions. The usual stuff like no discount, no free accessories, long waiting period etc are a pain. But, at no point they pressurized me into buying something & were pretty open when it comes to insurance as well.

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross Review

Today I went to (almost) book Hycross VX(O). And was waiting for the test drive vehicle which was supposed to be back in an hour or so. I was strolling and, out of curiosity, entered the Kia showroom which was next door. Wife was interested to see Carens and Syros - took test drives.

And then went back to the Toyota showroom.

Kia Syros second row looks more spacious than Hycross second row due to Kia's bigger sunroof.

Now finding it difficult to convince my better half for Hycross.

Uff....

Congratulations. My Silver VX O got registered a day back and I will take delivery coming week. I just opted for the front grill jewel garnish and rear reflector garnish to keep it simple (from the dealer). Other items like GFX floor mats, Mud flaps, Window visors, I have ordered from Zapcart (online) and the price was very reasonable.

To your question on wheel arch moulding - I think there is a brand called BRK which has some clamps apart from the adhesive which seems to be OK. There are few online with just adhesives and not sure whether they will hold good. If at all you buy this, one knowledgeable guy told me to replace the double side stickers with industry grade ones and then stick it. To me, even without the moulding, the car will grow on you and hence I did not go for it now.

All the best and happy miles with your car

Swami

Hello Swami, Congratulations on your ride! I too have booked a Silver Hycross but the GX (O) version, that was early in April. I wanted to understand your experience on the waiting time for silver color, as I have seen the much Hycross in production and being delivered are White, Pearl White and the Blackish Ageha.

Not sure whether it was luck or it was due to flexibility- I had given an open choice to the dealer about the Hybrid variants and colour and he said a Silver VX O is available once they had their April allotment from Toyota. I just accepted it, paid the advance in the second week of April and he allotted the car for me. Basically all happened within the same month.

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross Review

For all those looking to upgrade the lights, Hella 2" LED projectors are now available, specifically Hella Knight Street M60 Bi-led module set at a MRP of 13k and street price of 9.5k -

Toyota Innova Hycross Review-screenshot_20250430_122214_youtube.jpg

These are a direct and plug and play fit for the Hycross and a well made and researched product from Hella. It is better to go for this rather than the many Chinese brands like Aozoom etc. that I see around.

---------------

Also, many dealers are now misusing their monthly allotments. I recently got a offer (not naming the dealer) from a NCR dealer offering me immediate delivery of a April manufactured VX and in the color I wanted. The on-road price was 27.34L which was just 2.84L more than the GXO I had booked, as there is no RTO tax on hybrid here in UP. The catch was that I needed to install accessories worth 80k + take 40k worth of extended warranty + 40k worth of ceramic coating. I told him why not directly ask for a black of 1.6L and he seemed to be offended... Lolz. Anyways, I wouldn't mind the accessories but being forced into some of the other stuff, didn't make sense to me and anyways I was absolutely clear that I didn't need the hybrid for my yearly mileage and use case scenario as well as the hassles of a hybrid battery, 8 years down the line, so I politely refused. He then said the same deal could be made for the GXO too in about a weeks waiting. So all this 6 months waiting is basically a sham.

Cheers...

You are being modest in not naming the dealer. They all need to be called out.

For me it has been 13 months
and counting with Globe Toyota, Mohali. Now the dealer has not just stopped answering but also stopped providing updates via the the qrstix site. Escalating to Toyota is like rubbing salt in your wounds, they are in cahoots with the dealer and arrogantly refuse to get involved.

Sorry, but I will not be promoting their sham practices by naming these artifice dealers. Hope you understand.
