5. A good Dashcam with rear camera
6. Bimbra Model M bumper (I will proceed, based on the advise from fellow members)
7. Hardtop to Convertible, if the solution is available and well tested. However, I've seen few Bhpians converted their Thars other way but not from Hardtop to Convertible.

As my usage is mostly in City, I would like to hold on Lighting and Suspension upgrade before taking decision.

However, I need advise from fellow Forum members on how safe is to install an after market bumper(especially Model M) on a City driven vehicle? I'm little concerned on the 2 steel plates poking out of bumper.
My 10 bits.

1. Proman door hinges? Are these the side steps? If yes, they are useful for roof cleaning.
2.Proman grab handles - any grab handle which protrudes from the A Pillar is a bad idea. In the even of impact it can have serious consequences.
3. 3 d mats. For the Thar I find the Michelin Heavy Duty rubber mats to be the best.
4. Subwoofer. If you intend to go off road and wash the insides of the vehicle the subwoofer may get damaged.
5. Dashcam - there are many available. Definitely a great and necessary add on.
6. Reverse camera - absolutely essential for new Thar owners and very useful for anyone driving a large vehicle like Thar.
7. Off road Bumper in Bangalore - bad idea. Cops will immediately go into overdrive.
8. Hardtop to Convertible - bad idea. Once you mess with the factory fitted hard top and all, you are laying yourself wide open to poor fitment, leaks, loss of warranties and indeed alteration of the company spec. All of these have more disadvantages than advantages.
9. If at all you are changing the stock headlamps you can do a direct fit with Philips and Osram 55 watt white Halogens which are much brighter than stock and very useful. LED lights may look good but are absolutely useless in mist and rain in case you intend to drive the Thar to coorg and nilgiris and all.
10. Suspension upgrade is a worthy investment in comfort. But as Ive written earlier the newer 2023 Thars seem to have had some comfort tuning done on their suspensions right from the factory. So you could drive it a bit and then decide if you want to spend the money on the suspension.

Thank you for the response and suggestion rajeevsulu, I will put it on hold for now.

Sorry. Yes, I meant Proman door step hinges.

Yes sir, I understand that. You've also suggested a simple alternative to other members many times on this forum. But, I found Proman design seems to be better than other available options. As I had already placed the order online, I will use them for few days and get them uninstall if I feel they are dangerous.

Same story as above, I had already placed the order online. I read many good reviews about Pharaoh 3d mats on this forum. So, placed my order blindly even without seeing them in person.

My Thar is RWD model sir. I do not think, I will take it to any serious off-roading. I drive XUX700 now and occasionally take it to farm trails near Chikballapura. I trust, If XUV700 is doing well in those trails, Thar RWD could do it with more ease.

Thank you for the advise sir. Sure, I will remove these 2 from the wish list for now.

Yes, I read your advise about lighting as well in this forum. I will definitely consider this solution as its easy on the pocket as well.

Sure sir, I have XUV700 as my family car and use it mostly for long distance trips. Thar is my second car for city drives. I will wait at-least for 6 months or few thousands of kilometer to assess if I really need suspension upgrade.

Thank you very much again for your time to respond and share your suggestions. Much appreciated.

Re: Mahindra Thar 1.5L RWD Review

Looking for daily use experience from owners in Metro cities. How has been your experience in terms of

- Daily drive experience in city traffice for auto or manual transmission.
- FE in city conditions for both Petrol and Diesel.
- Any fatigue observed due to typical BOF architecture.
- Any one here has opted for Petrol RWD AT? What is average FE you are getting in city conditions?

My Petrol Auto RWD is almost 3 months old now.
Except for weekend trip to Mysore, it has been driven only in Bangalore. It's clocked close to 2000kms. The average FE I have been getting is anything between 9-10 Kmpl. It has been a pleasant experience so far. I think this is the perfect car for my office commute which is around 50 kms/day. I have driven the ML350 and 320i to my office extensively but never enjoyed as much as in my Thar. It's mostly because of its ability to handle bad roads, chaotic traffic, beautiful torquey engine (big surprise, never expected this one from Mahindra) which helps you accelerate and pick up speed whenever needed. The ride is surprisingly comfortable. I know lot of folks discuss on suspension upgrades and other mods, but I haven't felt the urge to do it yet.

Hope this helps.

Re: Mahindra Thar 1.5L RWD Review

Just recd an update on my booking which was done on 11th Jan. The car has been allotted to me. Dealer tried to push accessories worth 50k and an overpriced insurance worth 70k. I told them I am getting the same insurance from policybazaar at less than 50% of the price. Instantly, the price reduced to 40k. I told them I'll take my insurance on my own. No fuss created by the dealer

Hoping for delivery in next 10 days (fingers crossed)

Re: Mahindra Thar 1.5L RWD Review

I have booked my thar rwd diesel manual on january 11th and received the vehicle on june 13th.I was given price protection for it being in first 10,000 bookings.Dealer was automotive mahindra punjagutta.Best people and best customer service.Never forced me into anything.Got my loan from outside and also insurance I got from policy bazaar they never had any objections which saved me alot of money too. They never forced me to take accessories too,but I took it out of choice worth 28k,I got led head lamps for 18k and 3 arm rests for 10k.Even at the time was delivery,I was given half tank of fuel in my car, which suprised me,I remember my cousin taking his 4x4 delivery at VVC motors they gave him car with fuel for only 30kms.Very impressed with diesel variants mileage.Still early days, will post detailed review after 1k kms and so on.

Re: Mahindra Thar 1.5L RWD Review

I recently did a round trip to Bangalore and back. Total distance covered including intracity drive was 640 kms. I got a fuel average of 17 kmpl. I was more impressed with the Avo suspension on the highway. My 80 year old mother was with me and she was so comfortable through out. Erode to Bangalore was 4 hrs and so was the return trip. I never went beyond 110 kmph but maintaining ton up speeds was so easy. I am very happy with the highway manners of the Thar and now to explore the real capabilities of the vehicle
Cheers

Re: Mahindra Thar 1.5L RWD Review

Greetings to all Thar RWD owners - Has any of the Thar RWD owners test driven a Jimny? What is the viewpoint? Assuming that RWD is supposed to have a more pliant suspension than the 2020 Thar.

BHPian Shankar Balan has test driven the Jimny and owns a Thar (4x4 though). Considering 4x4 Thar is more hardcore equipment compared to 4x2 (RWD), you can take it as a good reference point too. His impression if the Jimny is positive on the performance part.

Thanks PaddleShifter for the reference.
Apart from the one you referred to, I have made one more post (No 1122) on that Jimny thread which may further clarify and help.

Re: Mahindra Thar 1.5L RWD Review

I and a couple of friends drove to Yercaud from Erode last weekend. We set out on Saturday and got back on Monday. The resort is owned by my friend and is situated beyond Shervaroyan temple detour. Just beyond the turnoff to Bangalore road, a few miles up the road, in a secluded area, at the end of a private road, is located this magnificent resort. I loved the way that the RED Thar handled the hills, and the rough terrain in and around the resort. The suspension soaked up everything that i threw at it (Avo). Posted a few pictures taken in the vicinity. There were a few very steep climbs and descents which I normally would not attempt in my sedan. I had real solid fun in this area and i am sure this is the first of such drives. I will post more pictures as I process them
Cheers

Re: Mahindra Thar 1.5L RWD Review

Quick shout out to the fellow members awaiting delivery of their Thar:

Are you able to see track booking option?

I have my booking done via the dealer and I do not see the tracking option.

Re: Mahindra Thar 1.5L RWD Review

Folks,

What's the present waiting period of Thar RWD Diesel MT? Asking because we had booked an Innova Hycross VX Hybrid more than three months ago and Toyota doesn't even have clarity on when will we get the car delivered. Since we needed another car (have Honda City Diesel at home and is the only car till we get new one), the Thar seemed to be a good choice until we get the Hycross delivered though we will be retaining Thar as a second car.

But the waiting period of nearly 1 year for 1.5 RWD Diesel MT is really a big bummer while I can get Thar D AT delivered within a week or two but dad wanted 1.5 RWD irrespective of its waiting period since its ₹6L cheaper than Thar D AT and returns better FE than 2.2 MHawk.

The booking website shows a waiting period of 70-72 weeks for 1.5 RWD. With a price difference of just Rs. 1.5L the petrol RWD is also a good option as you will be getting an auto gear box and a bigger engine as well. Waiting period for the petrol RWD is 8-10 weeks per M&M's booking portal.

A person considering Diesel for reasons of FE, will be quite unhappy with the Petrol whether 4x4 or RWD/ 2WD. Yes the Petrol engine is lovely and tractable and the AT TC gearbox is perfectly mated to it. Its power surge is a real joy. But the FE leaves a great hole in the pocket especially if one is an enthusiastic driver.
