Price - Each tyre costs at 18500. It also depends upon the deal you can crack.
Time Period - It took them around 10 days. Although 276/60/18 at Yokohama are short in stock since this is the only company which produces these specs.
Special Feature - The RWL is nothing but a paint job done outside, standard tyres does not come with RWL.
Makes sense. Always thought RWL was from the company! Learnt something new. I had got the delivery of the vehicle last night. Contemplating to not change the tyres and but only the wheels with black alloys..

One big question - I feel the steering is very heavy at low speeds. Is it the same for you? Anything I need to do to improve this.. Appreciate your inputs.

Re: Mahindra Thar 1.5L RWD Review

I got my RWD Diesel Thar serviced at the 10,000 km mark 6 months after purchase. Nothing out of the ordinary was done. Usual oil, oil filter, air filter, DEF top up, battery liquid, the works. The only request that i had was to get the tyres rotated and aligned. All done in 6 hours and with a bill of Rs. 7661.CAI autos, my dealer, are very efficient and absolutely professional. A software update was also done at the time of service. Very happy with the vehicle and the service experience
Cheers

Re: Mahindra Thar 1.5L RWD Review

Hi guys
I test drove Thar diesel AT this weekend and it is just amazing. However, I don't plan to use it for off-roading and going by the various reviews I understand the RWD is a decent performer as well. However, the RWD is only available in MT. Yet to test drive the RWD petrol AT but the full efficiency figures are scary. Any idea if Mahindra plans to introduce AT on the RWD diesel?

Hi
Specific to your comment on FE.
I have a 4x4 Petrol AT Thar. Almost 3 years old.
Honestly, it gives 8-9 in city.
Goes up to 10 -12 on highways
Best I got was 13.

Depends entirely on how you drive. Whether in heavy stop start traffic etc.

There is nothing to be scared of in terms of FE for the Thar petrol AT.

I have a Thar petrol AT 4x4 that will turn 3 months in a few days and it is my daily driver. My FE figures have so far been:

Consistent 9.8 to 9.9 kmpl in daily driving with moderate traffic.
Worst I have got till date is 8.8 which had some bumper to bumper traffic.

All these figures are with the tank full method first cutoff.

If you upsize your tyres, that will ofcourse affect your FE. My tyres and alloys are stock.

Re: Mahindra Thar 1.5L RWD Review

If any RWD Thar Petrol AT can share their experience.

I have a strong urge to replace the A4 Petrol (1.8TFSI) in my garage with the Thar. While it’s worlds apart - I believe for places like Gurgaon (with no roads like condition, & extreme water logging) due to such conditions I cannot drive the A4 especially monsoons.

Add to it, can’t take it to the mountains (low GC)

Would love some reviews on the FE, I’ve heard it’s notorious in case of Thar.

Also is the facelift near the corner ?
Maybe with the 5 door.

If its the mountains (higher GC) and water logging (Gurugram’s) that you wish to tackle, why not opt for the Scorpio-N? It is much more car like to drive compared to Thar and will keep you more comfortable, coming from the A4.

Dippy has shared the FE for his petrol 4x4 above. The FE for a RWD wont be much different (slightly higher than 4x4).

Facelift does not matter as long as you are eyeing the Jeep looks and going to modify the front grill. Also, it is not likely either as Mahindra would want to differentiate the 3 and 5 door’s front looks. The 5 door is stated to receive a larger, floating HU, and it needs to be seen when this update comes down to the 3 door also.

Re: Mahindra Thar 1.5L RWD Review

I did a round trip to Bengaluru and back from Erode. I had a 15 minute personal work to be done in Bengaluru on 11/11/23.Started from Erode at 1:45 am. Me and my mom did the trip. Reached Bengaluru at 5:30.After we completed our task, we started back at 5:50.Drove through the city and all was well till we reached Attibele.
Drove straight into the diwali cracker madness and got stuck for 45 mts to traverse 100 metres. Traffic was hectic till Krishnagiri and cooled off post that. Every restaurant worth it's salt had a hundred cars parked in front. Restaurants that i had never seen before had 50 cars in front.
We skipped breakfast as a result and drove on without any break and reached home at 10:35.555 kms of drive with a top speed of 105 km/h on some instances. Both of us were not tired and i went on to the hospital for work. The fuel alarm chimed just as I entered home. 105 kns range leftwas on the MID. That calculates to 17.5 kmpl.
Cheers

Re: Mahindra Thar 1.5L RWD Review

Hello dear THARians,
Bumping into this thread early into the car buying decision. I own a Honda city 5th gen and now considering a second car for my wife (mostly for me), planning to see Thar RWD PETROL AT. I don’t need hard core off-roading vehicle, RWD would suffice in mild indian off roads. My query is how bad is fuel economy in city and is ride quality in 2023 RWD is better than previous versions.

I happen to own a Thar Petrol RWD AT now and its doing good. Fast and rough road friendly.

Fuel efficiency wise, Maximum I have got is 12.5 kmpl on highway drives. Thanks to our bad highways and conditions, Can't even maintain sustained speeds of 90+ kmph for the AT to engage the 6th Gear. On my super short work commute on the weekdays, FE drops to 7.5/8 kmpl.
Overall, love the mStallion 150. It has that muscle car vibe with the power and torque it delivers.

Yes, Thar 5 door is around the corner.

Re: Mahindra Thar 1.5L RWD Review

Greetings.
I just got to know that I'll be getting my Thar RWD LX Diesel MT delivered in about a week. I've got to pick out a few accessories from the dealership, and I'd like to know if anybody has gone for the rear armrests, headlights, taillights, and front armrest from the dealership itself. If yes, please share your experience with the accessories, and if they're worth going for.

Thank you.

Re: Mahindra Thar 1.5L RWD Review

My Thar completes 10 months and I have driven 15 K km.

Good fuel efficiency around 14-16 for my usual work to home commute.

Highway 16 plus driving normally. It can go upto 20 if on exp way with a steady speed of 80 kmph. push it hard and FE drops drastically

Ride and handling- one gets used to it. Thar can be pushed hard on good empty roads and have floored it on many drives but best to keep it under 120 and most highways have a safe limit of 100.

Niggles:

DEF issue once - drove 15 min > 2000 rpm

Squeaking sounds occasionally which come and go ( with some hydration of the rubber and tightening of nuts) but hey its a jeep and mahindra at that.

Cruise Control sometimes doesn’t engage is the only permanent niggle. Will have it checked.

Ride has improved with time or my body has got used to it

Kids love it and my mom doesn’t complain though Duster is her car of choice. Wife appreciates it but yet to drive.

Overall

Very happy , brings a smile every time I look at it or step in it. Would love to get a Red convertible for wife ( read me ) but she doesn’t agree.

The STEDIs look great. Thank you @GTO

Plan to have LED Amber Fogs and may be a grill swap and bumper plus Cube LEDs on the bonnet.

Happy motoring

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Planning to take the delivery of my Diesel RWD Manual.

While revving from 1-2k rpm the vehicle has a little vibration in the Accelerator pedal.

Tested it on a standstill vehicle.

Is this a common phenomenon in the diesel engine or do i have something to be concerned about?
Any Diesel RWD Users who can shed some light? Any help would be highly appreciated!

PS: Already have a Petrol RWD, but it has no such buzz. May be cause it's Automatic Transmission.

It's a body-on-frame Mahindra that doesn't have the production standards of say, a Creta.

You can expect lots more of these vibrations, squeaks etc. as you own the vehicle. Don't worry about the little vibrations. It's part & parcel of owning a Mahindra BOF UV / Jeep.

My 2022 Thar's front footwells heat up significantly after 1 - 2 hours of driving, just like my 1997 Classic. This is on the side near the transmission (left for driver footwell, right for passenger). You really won't see this in modern cars.

Absolutely right. This has always been the case in my experience with this new AT Mahindra Thar.
From the one I test drove in 2020 and in the one Ive owned since Feb 2021. If one is wearing sandals or open toed footwear this heating up of the left footwell is pretty evident. It even manifests itself through the sneakers or even if one is wearing boots.

I can tell you though, that on a cold blustery or windy and rainy day in Bangalore or Ooty or wherever, it is a definite ‘feeling of snug warmth’. As a kid I remember feeling the cold in the old CJ Jeeps and Ambassadors and all in the hills and trying to snuggle into warm cushions, rugs and all in the back seat. The more modern Thar definitely allows for a little of that!
