Re: Mahindra Thar 1.5L RWD Review

Has anyone tried upgrading the headlights to 90/100W? The stock headlights on the Thar are less than adequate but you can just about live with them as long as you are driving on city roads.

Before I took my first outstation trip I changed the bulbs to Nightbreaker lasers which are a bit better but not good enough in many situations.

The 90/100W conversion is a simple DIY but I'm assuming it will impact the warranty and if I go strictly by the book it is illegal.

Apart from that are there any problems if I go ahead and do this? The wiring kit from Philips seems to be a fairly safe option as far as I can tell but will it eventually reduce my Thar to a pile of smouldering ashes?

If the kit has a relay then it should be good to go. There are many a Maruti Omni's & Indica's who have 90/100 or 100/130 as well in their headlights and they are still running around without burning to ashes!

Thats the thing! Older Marutis were pretty robust. I've had 90/100W headlights with ceramic holders and a relay in all 3 of the Marutis I've owned: 99 Zen, '03 M800 & '08 Swift. Never had a problem.

Cars these days, however....
I read of a Thar that caught fire because of a rear camera and on this forum there is a report by a member who helped put out the fire on a Thar that appeared to be fitted with aftermarket headlights.
So its not an altogether irrational phobia I've developed where electrical modifications are concerned.

What I want to know is, has anyone here actually done a 90/100 conversion on their Thar?

How has Carlinkit 5.0 been treating you so far?

Not sure of the forum members. I think most who have retained the halogen lights have gone with same rated bulbs of better brands or added aux lights. Else they have done a full swap to LED set up. On my Black vehicle I have gone for full LED set up (projectors and headlights). Running for the past 24k kms (it was done right out of the showroom) and there was only a fuse that blew for the right side projector fog lamp due to an incorrect rated fuse. Once fixed it was all good. The neutral hue of the LED and fog lights is giving good illumination on the type of roads that I need to travel.

It does the job very well thank you. There were a couple of times AA got disconnected on very bumpy roads. I double taped the device to the car and all is well now.

My Amazon music playlist takes a little longer to load on to the display than before ( when it was connected via cable), but, it is only a couple of seconds on start-up.

Cheers

Re: Mahindra Thar 1.5L RWD Review

Also, I'm looking to get the Dieseltronic for my Thar RWD, but there's little to no information on the internet about people doing that. The distributor claims to have installed it in a few Thar RWDs, but that’s not reassuring enough. I've asked him to arrange for a short drive of a Thar RWD that has the Dieseltronic set up in place.

Until that happens, I could really use some help.

I presume the offer is for existing inventory. However, i booked the car on 24th September and the car allotted to me was Sept manufactured car, so I'm not sure if it's only for existing inventory or also for the vehicles in production

Dealer was: PPS Mahindra, Indiranagar (100Ft. Road)
Ask for Naveen D as the sales representative, very professional in his job

Yes, they have updated. I have recently booked LX Diesel MT in Forest Green colour and awaiting delivery. Had seen the colour in a Thar Roxx which was displayed at a nearby showroom and it looked very nice and unique like an Army jeep. Since this colour is comparatively rare, I thought may be it will bring in some exclusivity.

I have been told it’s 3-4 months. Not following up. Had told them to arrange in the usual course. While booking I was told INR 1.25L cash discount and INR 25K worth accessories. Final offer would depend on the offers available in the month of delivery. Will keep this group posted.

On another note, wanted to check if anyone has upgraded to BF Goodrich tyres for RWD. Considering the small engine wanted to check if will be an overkill for the RWD and impact power as the tyres are heavy. Also how do the stock tyres perform? Thank you

Re: Mahindra Thar 1.5L RWD Review

The stock tyres are good. I have MRF tyres on my RWD Thar and they have done a great job over the past 24,000 kms.

I have done a lot of Intercity runs in both the dry and wet conditions and no complaints.

Cheers

Definitely overkill on the RWD. You're probably going to get CEATs or MRFs with it and they are both pretty good. Unless you are absolutely obsessed with getting the perfect tyres, don't bother changing them.

Oh yes! I was disappointed to see CEATs when I got my Thar RWD but they are surprisingly competent and don't let you down even when you push them.

It is helpful to note that the stock tyres are good. 24,000 Kms is more than sufficient to assess. I am sure you would be rotating the tyres every 10,000/ 20,000 Kms. I follow that for all my cars and that definitely increases the life of the tyres.

Thanks for your suggestions. This is very helpful and encouraging to note. I thought so that the BF Goodrich may be an overkill and the weight may impact power and mileage considering the smaller engine. The peppiness of the lighter Thar would be negated. No doubt they enhance the look of the Thar or for that matter any car.
