My last message yesterday to the service advisor was "Mhawk 2.2 6lt, D117 1.5 5lt" and I didn't hear from him for a couple of hours. Later in the evening he asked me to get the car over the next day.
I landed up early today and the SA checked the dipstick. The level was significantly above the maximum. He muttered something about letting the oil settle down and tried after a bit. After a few cycles of
wipe dipstick-pull out-check-put back in; he was convinced. Half an hour later I got the vehicle back with 5lts of oil in it.
I'm not sure exactly how this was done but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it because I intend to change the Maximile ultra in a few thousand km anyway.
I haven't checked the dipstick yet because I've been driving around. Will do this tomorrow morning.
If Mahindra service had not responded I would have got this done at my FNG because I am not comfortable with driving with 20% extra engine oil. No good can come out of that.

There is a whole lot of confusion about this and the documentation makes things clear as mud. Perhaps the Marazzo or XUV 300/3X0 Diesel service manuals would convince the service station boffins.
I was, however, pleasantly surprised at how India Garage, Peenya, handled this. They did what they needed to do without a fuss and were not dogmatic about it.
2 years of Bliss
I booked the Thar Diesel RWD MT a couple of seconds after booking started and took delivery on 16 th March 2023. It has been a very happy two years. The speedo stands at 28750 kilometres.
After reading through on the forum, I got the AVO suspension installed by Arka motosports, Coimbatore. A very very needed modification,I must say. Highway drives are much more comfortable after the modification. This was done at 4500 kilometres
The sound system is very average. So I swapped out the speakers, put in a subwoofer, an amplifier for the speakers, a monobloc for the sub woofer and a DSP for tune. This was done at 5000 kilometres.
I also got the seat covers done in black, swapped out the headlight and fog lamp bulbs with warm led bulbs as the stock lights were bad. Rear camera was fixed after a software update.
For what ever it is worth, I got 3M ceramic coating done. Barring regular service maintenance, nothing else was required till date. The wiper blades were changed after 1 year before last monsoon season.
I am totally happy with the Thar. On a full tank to full tank basis, I have managed a fuel efficiency of 16.25 kmpl. I get my tyre rotated, aligned and balanced every 5000 kms.
I have done a few non stop highway runs with my mother as co passenger and she did not complain much. A couple of trips were to and from trips to Bengaluru and back to Erode with a break of just 15 mts. No complaints there as well.
Some pictures of the journey, the modifications, the accessories used and of the interiors. I am planning to change the front grill and get a better head unit shortly.
Cheers
30,000 kms update
I got my Thar RWD Diesel service done at the 30,000 km mark. Two years and a month since I bought the vehicle, this milestone was hit. I had absolutely no complaints and just the usual filter change, oil change, fluid top up and water wash was done.
This being the first paid service, there was a labour charge. A software update was also done along with the usual service. The Thar runs on with no trouble at all.
Attached invoice copy.
Cheers
