Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Twelve Jimny owners met in Bangalore yesterday for a short drive to Shri Gangadhareshwara Gudi Betta.

The drive was enjoyable - The broken roads, deep trenches leading up to the top of the hill proved to be the perfect playground for the jimny.

All of us had a great time with family members accompanying many. We made tea, maggi using a butane powered stove brought by one of the owners and enjoyed talking about a multitude of things before we headed back our own way.

The convoy of twelve Jimny's in different colors also got heads turning on the road from the meet up point to the top of the hill. Radios were provided by the founder of the group to those that did not have one - This helped us to communicate with each other about what was in store for us on the trail ahead by the convoy lead and for others to pitch in whenever they needed to.

It is only when one ventures on these kind of trips does one realise the potential of the Jimny. It is truly a one-of-a-kind vehicle that cannot be compared.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Quick question to the owners of Jimny - did you guys receive printed owners manual with your new car? I am being told it is PDF and smartphones in-app only now a days?

Btw took delivery of this beauty a few days ago

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

^^ Congratulations ! Love this shade of Grey and it was between this and the Blue for me.

I see it's the Alpha and hence did you manage to get any discounts ? What mods are planned ?

With the Pune Jimny tribe growing we should plan a Jimny meetup and OTR soon !

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Getting a precautionary oil change done at ~1000 km. The 0W16 oil available at the dealership is not synthetic. Would something like that be fine for the Jimny? They also have a more expensive 5W-40 fully synthetic oil available but I'm unlikely to opt to for it considering it's not recommended in the manual to use that viscosity.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

The user manual is a PDF downloadable from the Maruti Nexa website. I found this very inconvenient. Nothing like a hard copy user manual that you can browse at leisure. I have asked a printer friend to get print me a bound printed User Manual from the PDF. My printer friend tells me the User Manual is an actual printer's file ready for printing. Someone at Maruti probably decided to save the money for printing.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Went back to Maruti Service today to get an oil change done. Next time I'll do this myself because outside of the paid or free services, this costs too much. I should have done this precautionary flushing oil change during the first service itself but as I didn't, I figured it would be better to do it now instead of living in regret later on.

As someone else mentioned, the car couldn't be lifted on the regular lift Suzuki Arena and had to go on the Wheel Alignment lift. I got to see the underside of the car for the first time.

Jimny on the lift:

Oil filter part number 16510 M 68K00:

Engine Oil used. Nexa Brand 0W16 Fully Synthetic oil:

Old oil drained:

There was some debate about the oil to be used. They wanted me to get a higher grade synthetic oil that would be more expensive per liter, but I said, just put whatever it says on the manual if you have it. Leave it if you don't have it.

Also got window curtains fitted. At the time of delivery, I wasn't sure about the legality of the same, but if it's a Maruti Suzuki authorised accessory, then it should be legal right? Anyway, if I go out of state, I will take them off.

Also got some pictures of the underside of the car. The service manager was very friendly and invited me to go under the lift to have a proper look.

Some pics of the underside. Excuse my poor photography skills:

I didn't realize the mudguards were so shabbily installed. These vampiric fangs have already rusted. Will look for some alternatives for these.

There was another Jimny in for service today (I think the second one purchased in our city), so naturally, the two cars were arranged and the service staff took a photo with both vehicles.

Overall, I'd say again I had a very positive experience with Maruti Service, in as much as they let me wander around and be a bit of a nuisance and see things for myself, whereas other places would strictly relegate you to the waiting room area.

I think I am spending a lot of time with the Jimny these days, so as to avoid thinking about some difficult situations at work. It's been a great distraction. Completed 1000 km. Hopefully things will calm down at work as well.

Congratulations! Since I cannot find a button to DM you, asking it here. Can you share the dealer/sales rep details?

Was the oil change prescribed for the service interval? Or any specific reason why you went for it? The oil being drained appears in pretty good condition in the photo and didn't exactly warrant a change as such. Or you do an oil change of a new car earlier always, as part of your run-in ritual, to take away fresh engine filings?

Thats such a disaster indeed. Shameful of the accessories installer to do this. Imagine someone washing the car with hands / cloth. These screws are sharp enough to cause deep cuts to the fingers. If at all these needed to pierce the body - should have been blunt nut-bolts then!

Right. I had apprehensions too at first and wanted to change the engine oil as well, but the service mechanic told me these days engine blocks are made of composite alloys that do not result in metal shavings coming off the new engine. Likewise I did not notice international 3-door Jimny owners making this a ritual in online forums, so I skipped it and decided to follow the service schedule.

Well, an accessory fitted by the dealer need not be legally approved and we could end up being caught by the cops. I have driven my car with such curtains (an official Toyota accessory) to several states (Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra (current home state), Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, J&K, Ladakh etc.) during the past 1.5 years but nobody has so far stopped me for these. But you never know. If they do, we can always temporarily remove them. I was sort of prepared that the Kerala cops/MVD guys might pull me up. However, they did not.

I don't trust car manufacturers to be honest about what it takes to maintain my car. And since I'm planning to keep this vehicle as long as possible, I'd rather do my due diligence instead of relying on them to sort out issues later on.

I'll share two videos that I watched that prompted me to do the oil change below. I'd rather spend 2000 now than be stuck with a worn out engine in five years. The manufacturer anyway washes their hand of the vehicle in 2-3 years, when the warranty expires.
