Re: Maruti Jimny Review

So it isn't the very affordable off-roader that everyone was hoping it to be. Not surprised as Maruti has stuck to the premium tag that they were harping about since the reveal and media drives.

Really went optimistic with the pricing for something which is NOT premium. Will be interesting to see the effect it has on the bookings now. And Im sure these will be just introductory prices

The Thar really appears VFM now. Plus it has 4 star safety rating and street cred that the Jimny will never have.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Just out of curiosity, because I haven’t personally figured out all the variants, why is everybody so irritated with the pricing as compared to the Thar? It appears that the base level automatic (which still has 4WD) undercuts the base Thar Auto by a little more than 2 lakhs and the top end auto is still 1 lakh less than the base auto from Thar. Agreed it isn’t anywhere near as luxurious as the Thar by any means and it does give up highway ability but it certainly has more off-roading chops and it has more room at the back. The one thing that really puts me off is how bad the turning radius is but the rest seems ok to me personally (although I guess I’m not one to look for bling in a cabin). Sure, it isn’t a blinding deal but it doesn’t seem as terrible to me as the reactions seem to project. Clearly I’m wildly off base here but can anyone break it down for me?

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

at this Ex-Showroom price, the OTR in Chennai would approximately work out to (around 21% average above Ex-Showroom to OTR)

Zeta AT - 17L and Alpha AT - 18+L

I am personally very disappointed and would cancel my booking.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Expected premium pricing, given how the Fronx and Brezza prices are. But was really hoping for the starting price to be atleast a couple of lakhs lower.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Priced roughly 2 lakhs more than the Fronx 1.0 TC. Seems fair from Suzukis point of view. A much superior build quality. And the 4WD tech which seems to have an international repute. Any comparisons with Thar is futile. They are not competing for butch looks. Or in terms of whats under the hood.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

In a s single sentence I would describe the Jimny as the "The CB500x of cars" in Indian context.

Thar is significantly bigger, has FAR superior engines and transmissions and significantly more sophisticated suspensions. We are talking about a decades old and basic 1.5 NA petrol with an archaic 4 speed TC vs a modern 2 liter direct injection turbo petrol with 50% more power and 100% more torque (a simple remap away from its full 200bhp spec) and a proper 6 speed automatic. Then there are the two proven diesel options, both extremely competent. Suspensions - a solid axle vs a fully independent front. Brake locking diffs vs a physical MLD. There is no comparison whatsoever. The overall package from Mahindra is simply of a higher order. Add to it the street cred. Jimny is diminutive, about the size of WagonR or Ignis, while Thar is THAR. Even things like those 18 inch alloys and fat tires on the Thar, they cost. An aftermarket upgrade for just that will easily cost 1-1.5L straightaway.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

So much for the democratization of off-roading in India.

Too many words? How about a single word?

Ouch!

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

The idea to get this for me was lower price tag than Thar cause of smaller compact size and basic mechanicals like the K15B ancient engine, 4 speed prehistoric gearbox.

At this price point, I would rather spend 1.5 lakhs more and get Thar petrol 4x4 AT.

Sorry but this is a no go for me when it comes to price.

At current prices:
Zeta MT – Rs 12,74,000 / Thar AX Opt 4WD - Rs 13.87 lakh
Zeta AT – Rs 13,94,000
Alpha MT – Rs 13,69,000 / Thar LX MT 4WD - Rs 14.56 lakh
Alpha AT – Rs 14,89,000 / Thar LX AT 4WD - Rs 16.10 lakh

Forget people like me who picked up the Thar one year back, even at these prices, there is no way Jimny price is justified with respect to the Mahindra Thar.

More so, it might just push Jimny owners to go for the Thar.
