Literally I had to brake only very few times while driving down hill in these gears

So I repeat, brake issues in Jimny at high altitudes is due to a faulty driving technique
By your own admission you have mentioned that there is a style you need to drive in order to avoid the high altitude braking issue. So I would advise you to correct your post into mentioning how to mitigate it instead of saying it doesn't exist.

This technique has been discussed in the past for AT as they suffer more. The 4x4 system also might fail to engage and this is all due to the Vaccum pump not working at low/idle RPM. Apart from this the AC also suffers and doesn't cool at idle/low RPM when you're in heat and not moving traffic. These are know issues with the Jimny, the former one is very serious and dangerous and I would avoid calling it an non-issue.

1.Which is a good Suzuki sevice center around Muvattupha or Thodupuzha? I would like to service the Jimny where others have felt good with their Jimny's. I don't expect every service center to be knowledgeable on Jimny as Suzuki has less of them 4x4s..
Please connect with CarCare at Thodupuzha. Their workshop is opposite to Depaul public school. I can't say they are Jimny specialists, but they are the most seasoned mechanics in town, and they have experts for both Petrol and Diesel cars. Please call 94473 70339.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

This was in 2008 when I was travelling with one of the media guys who used to test drive the cars. He had mentioned that Mahindra Scorpio braking at much higher altitudes was not upto the mark whereas Tata Sumo didn't face any issue. He also said that that is why at higher altitudes Sumo was preferred (at that time). Though not related to Jimny but thought of mentioning it.

What was the technique? Sorry, I still didn't understand what the "technique" discussed was.

I'm sorry but does the Jimny sell with the tag "To be driven by expert drivers only" ?

I feel the comparison should be with other similar cars and see if its better or worse. Not with driving skill, which is very much subjective.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

-- Jimny goes to Coorg --

Last weekend, we did a trip to Coorg, opting for familiar homestays since the plan was made at the last moment. As we intended to visit estates, we decided to take the Jimny for the journey.

Day 1: Friday
We set off from Mysore at a relaxed pace, given that the distance was under 100 kilometers. After enjoying breakfast at home, we began our journey. With ample time to reach the homestay, we chose the route through Nagarahole forest. Surprisingly, we didn't spot any animals, not even deer. But the lush greenery was a treat for the eyes. We arrived at the Sagar Nest homestay on Mysore - Gonikoppa road (https://g.co/kgs/cHFgRXi), a place I’ve visited multiple times with both friends and family, never once disappointed. This charming homestay retains its appeal over the years, with wonderful hosts who adhere to homestay norms, ensuring a quality experience. They have seven friendly pets that love accompanying guests on estate walks. Without a dobut, I would recommend this homestay to anyone visiting Coorg.

We arrived at lunchtime, having requested just rice and rasam, yet the host prepared a full three-course meal. After the hearty lunch, we explored the surrounding greenery while the kids enjoyed catching guppies in the fish pond.

Maruti Jimny Review-nest-front.jpeg

Around 4 pm, visited Mattigodu elepahant center which was 6kms away from homestay. It houses 12 elephants, of which 4 are Dasara elephants. I was keen on seeing the mighty 'Abhimanyu' there, but unfortunately, he was kept away as he was in 'masth'. Felt 100/- entry fee was a bit steep for spending 15-20 mins. But it is what it is.
Maruti Jimny Review-mattigod-elephant-camp.jpeg
These two were 6 yrs and 11 yrs each.

In the evening, we went for an estate walk, led excitedly by the dogs, followed by tea and snacks while chatting until sunset.

Walk with kids and dogs. I was very attentive as just couple of days back, an elephant had raided the estate to eat fruits from fig tree in the estate.

Maruti Jimny Review-nest-walk2.jpeg
Bozo, arlo, bella, one-two, aldo and pogo are the pet names.

It had been over five years since my last visit, so there was much catching up with the hosts regarding life updates.

Yummy breakfast. this was the only pic taken of amazing spread of food . Proof that I was busy eating than clicking. They make sure to serve locally available food and coorg cusine. If she has brewed any homemade wine or brandy, you get to taste it too. All juices are from estate grown fruits like papaya, passion fruit, guava, lichi, orange, fig to name a few.

Day 2:
After a delightful breakfast, we headed to Imangala village for our second homestay(Red hill homestay), owned by a friend’s cousin. Located near Virajpet, the property is well-maintained with an abundance of potted plants, which my wife and mother-in-law, both gardening enthusiasts, thoroughly enjoyed. They even took some plants home. We fished in the pond and caught four medium-sized fish. A resident cat kept my kids company during the stay.

Though we had not informed prior, I asked for one as its been a while i sat in front of fire. Spent some 30-40 mins in front of it.

Day 3:
On the final day, we checked out and headed back to Bangalore, stopping by my mother-in-law’s village, Yelandur, along the way. The Kollegal-Bangalore route now has two tolls, totaling approximately 150 INR. After crossing the toll near EKYA school, traffic was slow-moving until we reached home, but we arrived without any incidents.

Jimny drive review:
Overall, we had a well-spent two days. The Jimny, equipped with a top box, efficiently handled our luggage, although it did struggle a bit with overtaking other vehicles at times with four people and luggage onboard. The vehicle achieved a fuel efficiency of 13 kmpl for the trip. Its compact size made maneuvering through narrow village lanes easy. We had a pleasant conversation with a Toyota Fortuner owner at a nursery near Hunsur, who was curious about the Jimny’s performance and its suitability for comfortably transporting family members.

cheers

Thank you for the nice travelogue. I have two queries -

1. Did you face issues with any authorities regarding the roof top carrier?
2. How contained (or not) was the air noise considering NVH levels in the Jimny are not the best?

So far haven't been stopped by cops in Karnataka, TN and Kerala. I did banalgalore - Valpari - Athirapally - bangalore in october. No issues faced. Once questions asked by fuel station guys is " is that a boat on top of your car??"

The burble of my Jimny's snorkel drowns all other sounds . roofbox and branch cutter are known to make lot of sound, but I am least bothered about it. So can't comment on how much of a difference they make.

Hey guys, in the below image taken from official review, one can clearly see a depression on tire along the sidewall in the highlighted area. What's the opinion of fellow bhpians on this? Is this something to bother? My car tires also has similar depression.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Update on a lovely little event. Had been fretting about not having any mudflaps despite paying for them and almost being a year since I got our little Love Bug. Despite repeated calls to the SE and taking it to the service centre, no avail. They were passing the parcel - sir, ask your showroom people to fix it; sir, we are not having in stock, the service centre will fix it..

I got really annoyed and the person who made the sale of the Jimny stopped taking my calls. I had 2 mid to bad experiences at the Sai Service centre at Andheri. They didn't clean the car properly from inside (I still have stains from the delivery day when someone used greasy hands inside the cabin). So this time I decided to take it to the Nexa Dadar centre.

And what a lovely place it is. Big workshop, large waiting area, light and airy. Granted I went on a weekday since I could swing that and hoped it would be empty. But it was nice to not sit rubbing shoulders with 26 others (on average!)

The waiting room.

Maruti Jimny Review-servicecentrewaitroom.jpeg

Maruti Jimny Review-servicecentrecoffee.jpeg

The coffee was really good.

The exec in charge, Ajit, was polite, courteous, understood all I told him and asked me to wait. Being a bit restless and in Dadar after a very very long time, after a little while, I took off and walked around. When I came back, the little Love Bug was looking fresh and happy. The tiny paint chip thanks to a stone on the highway is not gone but at least covered so it won't rust away till I get some buffing and a ceramic coat done.

And now for the happy event. I complained to Ajit about a ridiculous thing like a mudflap, costing 850/- being treated like an engine overhaul and people dragging their feet at Sai Service, been 11 months and no one has responded. He promptly started making calls and turned out the salesperson was cutting his calls too! Then he escalated it and I came to know the guy had left his job! No wonder he had 'ghosted' me for almost 6 months. Ajit called up the main office, got me on a conference call and they assured me it would get done ASAP.

I drove back home, loving how the wheel balancing had made the steering a little easy to handle now - and I promptly got a call that a service person would come home and install the mudflaps.

Maruti Jimny Review-mudflaps.jpeg

So by evening 5 PM, I was seeing the much awaited (and rare it seems!) muflaps being put in.

Maruti Jimny Review-newmudflaps.jpeg

And then, as the installation was done I casually inquired about how the rear camera of my dual dashcam could be installed more cleanly and if he knew anyone good enough who won't drill any holes or break anything.
(For context, I had installed the dashcam myself, not wanting to take it to a FNG so soon in my ownership! But the rear camera wires were hanging for the last 6-odd months since I didn't have the confidence to open any rear panels and thread them enough to make them invisible)

Maruti Jimny Review-frontdashcamself.jpeg

Front dashcam done by myself.

Maruti Jimny Review-reardashcamself.jpeg

The rear one. I know, I know the wires are an eyesore but all the videos I saw involved drilling/cutting of something or the other and my heart wasn't just ready for it! So they hung out, quite literally, but were not in my field of vision and the rear cam worked flawlessly tbh.

The guy looks at the wiring, says I've done it quite well but he can fix it if I so want. He said he does all the PDIs at the stockyard before it comes to showrooms and seemed very confident and knowledgeable about the car. So I took and leap, him being from the company, and told him to go for it. What is the worse that can happen.

And this, folks, was what happened.

Maruti Jimny Review-finalfinal.jpeg

Look at the finesse! He did is so brilliantly it looks like its OEM!

I was astounded at how he literally took apart all the rear panels, unthreaded the rear defogger wire from the hole, RE-threaded with the dashcam wire, took my help in one scenario where he pulled apart the defogger rubber seal and made me thread the dashcam wire through it ('don't worry it won't break sir, it's strong enough for this much force'), and then closed everything neatly.

Maruti Jimny Review-throughthedoor.jpeg

Threading it through the rear panel and into the door.

Maruti Jimny Review-threading1.jpeg

Maruti Jimny Review-threading2.jpeg

Almost done..

Maruti Jimny Review-threading3.jpeg

Mind = blown!

Maruti Jimny Review-clean.jpeg

Reseting the panels

Maruti Jimny Review-resettingdefogger.jpeg

I still marvel at it even today when I see it.

Maruti Jimny Review-amazing.jpeg

And then he attached the rear dashcam wires to activate in while reversing, so now I have a multitude of views when putting the car in R. Lower angle from the car's reversing camera and a top view since my rear cam is installed on the top of the glass near the door.

Maruti Jimny Review-rearviews.jpeg

And the best part - he didn't splice anything. He used clips to attach the wires since he said it won't void the warranty.

So all in all, a good weekend and now our Jimny has more advanced features than any car we've ever had!

No need to worry. its from manufacturing. I also got it checked it at NEXA service. They even shared a email with details about it. I have written a post in this thread on the same topic. you may have to search.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Hi BHPians,

Pleased to share that I have recently become a proud owner of Jimny. I was eying on the car for more than a year now and with various failed attempts to get car during discounts, I managed to collect some money and get a less driven pre-owned Jimny.

The buying experience was full of anxiety, questioning ownself every other day if I am going for right deal or not, but later told my subconscious mind that you will get what is in your destiny. Here is the pic taken last month.

Maruti Jimny Review-whatsapp-image-20250703-2.52.40-pm.jpeg

With motto of life, 'I dont want peace, I want problems', I have found an issue that is bugging me since days. One the top of the car, the black roof has some discoloration/blemish which is visible in daylight. During inspection it was not visible from eyesight height but only when I saw it from my first floor balcony, I found this defect. (Washing doesnt takes it off)

Can anyone please help what paint issue here is? Can this be removed through lite rubbing with 3M compound. The car is in warranty, can this be claimed under warranty as company paint defect? All suggestions to fix it are welcomed.

From pictures, the discolored spots seems to be in a line. Most probably it was parked under a shade/roof where corrosive chemical was dripping over it. Appears to be caused by negligence, hence, unlikely Maruti will honour it under warranty. Try rubbing polishing first, if that doesn't heal you will have to repaint or wrap it with a black vinyl.
