Re: 2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review

Hello Team-BHPians,
I have completed 2000 km with my new Seltos GTX+ Diesel AT in a month, and I want to share my feedback about the first-month experience.

2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review-img_4861.jpeg

Design: The car looks more beautiful in the segment, especially with the best interior compared to the Creta facelift. Both the exterior and interior are well-designed, but there could be better plastic in some places. My car looks awesome in pearl white. Ride comfort is good, but it feels jumpy on speed breakers.

Cabin View: One of the top design features is its cabin view. The infotainment system is well-designed with a large display screen. I love the stylish HVAC controls compared to the old-style HVAC in the Creta facelift model. It has the best ambiance with lights on both sides. The display cluster has three drive mode themes and one dynamic theme (which has eight different themes based on time and weather).

ADAS: I have tested multiple ADAS features in the first month of driving, and most of them are working properly. Please make sure no objects are blocking the radar or sensor on the front grill. I have experienced an issue with radar blocking, displaying "Vital forward safety functions are limited! Radar blocked."

Connectivity: I am facing audio connectivity issues while connecting my iPhone 14 Pro Max via Bluetooth, but audio is working fine with Android Mobile's Bluetooth. And there are no issues with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

Mileage: Currently, I am getting 10 kmpl as an average in city driving and 13 kmpl on highways.
I will post more updates if I encounter any issues or feedback on all available features.

Creta has IVT in top varaints and therefore has those ADAS based safety features.
Oh got it. My info came fdom the SA at Kia, who said that the Automatic braking to prevent Collision uses Engine braking just like you'd do with a Manual. IMO DCT is technically pretty similar to manual in the way it applies clutch and shifts up or down unlike CVT/IVT which is all belts and pulleys and shifts up and down linearly.

Re: 2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review

Can we get 360 degree camera as an accessory with seltos htx ivt? I saw a creta owner got it as an accessory from showroom (Hyundai Creta : Official Review). I have a very narrow corridor in my parking, without 360 camera or an another person guiding it is too difficult to park vehicle of this size.

We would inspect and check 10 Rs vegetable also before buying but it is ironical that dealers play hard ball and don't allow pdi as if our hard earned money means nothing.

Congratulations on your new ride! Have great fun in it.

I am surprised by the mileage figures considering yours is a diesel AT. Do you drive in massive traffic jams and are very hard on the throttle on the highways?

I have a Facelift petrol GTX+ DCT and I regularly manage 12-13 in moderate Pune city traffic and easily get around 15-16 on the highways when cruising at 95. I was driving at cruise control on Samruddhi Mahamarg at 119 Kph, and occasional bursts above 150, still managed a respectable 12.7 on the 400 Kph drive.

Re: 2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review

Even I was very surprised by the low mileage numbers. I have a Xline diesel Auto and in my 6200kms clocked so far in 3 months, I have gotten an overall mileage of 17.3 kmpl. This is too only in city driving (from Gurgaon to Noida and back) and does not include any highway trips. I also regularly use the gearbox S mode in my morning drive (since I leave early at 7 and get less traffic). In the morning drive of 50kms I get a mileage of 20-21kmpl. In the evening during my return (from 5:30 to 7:30) I get a mileage of around 14kmpl. The overall average still works out to over 17 kmpl everyday.

My Dealer tried this too and I told him that I need a written letter from them stating what PDI was done and how comprehensive it was in terms of checks, paint quality and other mechanical checks. He buckled and let the Zekardo guy do his work. Zekardo is excellent and pretty comprehensive. The report he shared online noted even minor things like missing Wiper Fluid and a tiny 1mm scratch on my steering wheel which i would have definitely missed.

Official statement by KIA

Kia India will hike prices across its mass model portfolio, including Seltos, Sonet and Carens by up to 3 percent starting April 1.

“This decision is attributed to the escalation in commodity prices and supply chain-related inputs. It marks the first price adjustment by the company this year,” the carmaker said in a statement.

Congratulations

It's indeed a beautiful looking car (mine is pearl white too... so completely resonate with you on this one)

Nice pictures, especially the one with the steering, dash with dusk theme and clouds in the background

Hope you've tried reducing cold tyre air pressure to 31-33 PSI. It should make a difference on jumpy speed breakers.

Are you connecting to Android Auto through usb or an after market wireless dongle?
Asking as I haven't been able to connect through usb wire despite multiple attempts (using different cables)

On FE, try keeping ISG ON permanently and avoid using auto hold or electronic brake when the car is in D mode. This should improve your FE unless your travel is in bumber to bumper traffic throughout the journey.

Re: 2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review

A question to the learned folks here at team-bhp: isn’t it possible to tune the suspension of a car to achieve the desired level of comfort that we want? Considering that Creta and Seltos share the same components and engineering, won’t it be possible for a FNG to modify the suspension of Seltos to make it less firm and similar to Creta?

I relate to you so much considering I own the KIA Sonet - First Gen. I spent 3 years looking out for a solution to this painstaking problem and am I am aware it hurts the passengers even more.

I will let you know what has worked for me (somewhat) and what is one alternative solution that I had kept in my bag as a last resort and it wasn't an easy find either.

1. Firstly, last week, I got rear shock absorbers changed to new Sonet's - they too are stiff but a little better and stable in their function

2. Then, got both the front struts/absorbers replaced to new Sonet's - They too are better at damping and manage undulations better.

What changed the game was: I (forcefully by friend) got alignment done from a local specialist who used all real tools available at his disposal to work on things down there. And, the difference in ride quality was/is night and day. KIA's alignment would lose it's effect immediately after 200-300 kms drive making the car jiggle.

I actually now believe, KIA's alignment values and techniques are way off and that's ruining how their cars drive.

But, assuming if all these wouldn't have had worked, in desperatation, I had discussed this situation with a guy, Lucky Shock Absorbers in Mumbai, who does exactly what you are looking for. He was confident and said, he's done it for other Seltos and Sonets too.

Time didn't come for me go to him but, letting you know that it can be done. But, do consider the risk associated. I know, how desperate one can feel with KIA's pathetic suspensions.

I have faced the same issue.

Earlier, before my car hit the 20K Kms figure, even if I'd drive in rush, I'd get atleast 12.5-13.5 Kmpl. If I drove normal, I'd easily get 15-16.5 Kmpl.

Then something happened... no matter how sedately I drove, the mileage wouldn't go past 11.5 KMPL in the city + highway mix. This remained till 40K.

I raised complaints. Bhavna Kia guys would say, all good sir, enjoy the car, don't focus on mileage. But, with rising cost of fuel, I couldn't enjoy the ride anymore.

So, one of my friend advised to change the diesel filter cartridge in my car. I did it just for the sake of it. Instantly, my car started to give normal mileage again.

What I have learnt is that: KIA has installed very sensitive Diesel Filter Cartridge in it's cars, which is sensitive to bad fuel from any source.

Just recently, again my mileage had dropped, because I had to fill in a pump that was afar, and after changing the filter cartridge, it's riding good again. Also, make sure to check fuel lines n injectors from the service center.

One more thing, go on a mileage test trip with a KIA test driver. One of them taught me how to specifically drive KIA automatics to get great mileage and it was nothing like I knew about even after seeing many videos on YouTube. I wasn't tough on the accelerator, but, there's a trick to make it work for you and still give good mileage. The accelerator has to be managed on continuous basis, basically.

Hope you find your solution.

I am not sure if Auto Hold will have an adverse impact on the FE while in D mode. This defeats the purpose altogether and surely extensive tests might have gone into ascertaining that it has no negative impact. There were few discussions on TBHP forums about the same and the gist of those discussions were to say that there's no impact. Would love to hear comments from automobile experts.
