Seltos boot space is significantly less compared to City. So if you care about boot space then please keep this in mind. I have to remove the rear tray every time I travel with luggage.

Re: 2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review

So just finished my 10,000 km service, having done multiple long-distance trips in the past seven months. Thought I'd write my experience with the car and the service, for other owners and potential owners info, if it helps:

- Model is GTX+ Turbo GDI with the DCT
- Upgraded to Continental ContiSport tyres around 60km after delivery. Could instantly make out the difference in road noise and overall drivability. Rotated the tyres at the 5000km mark.
- An extremely comfortable car to drive on the highways (possibly the tyres also adding to the comfort) with no tiredness and discomfort. I credit the ventilated seats to have made a huge difference here. I find the engine to be very powerful and transmission butter smooth and quick, thereby not straining especially during overtaking.
- Approximate mileage in the city is around 10-11km/L in full time eco mode and around 13-14 km/l on the highway, also on eco mode.
- I purchased the extended warranty and my convenience package. The 10,000km service bill was approximately Rps. 980 because I changed the engine and cabin air filter. I think for our conditions, this is better and even mentions so in the owner's manual, though probably not the specific mileage.
- The ADAS, especially rear cross traffic alert and braking has saved me multiple times especially from the bikers speeding and squeezing through vehicles. I've also experienced the emergency brake assistance twice, which was a jarring experience; however safety comes first and I personally find it to be a necessity for our conditions.
- It was interesting to note that KIA does NOT use synthetic engine oil, only mineral, even for diesel vehicles. They claim only a 10,000km service interval for this change but I'm not so sure about the condition of the oil, even though its 0W-20/30, with our driving and weather conditions. I think I'm going to play it safe from hereon and change this every 5000km, to especially preserve the turbo.

Hope this helps!

Finally...1000 Kms completed and few Mods & Upgrades done.

2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review-20240510_161235.jpg

So, it took way too longer than i anticipated to reach the 1st Milestone of 1000 Kms (exactly 3 months today), but that's ticked now. Blame Company WFH Policy for that.
Ownership of my Seltos GTX+ aka Hulk has been largely fuss-free in the limited running i have done so far. Wont go over the Pros and Cons in detail as it has been discussed to death here.

Sharing below few of my Observations so far:

* Premium In-Cabin experience feel with Good Quality Interiors, be it the Plastics, Seats, Instrument Cluster as well as the Infotainment System.

* Big Car Feel, upgrading from a Ritz. Very Practical and useful Storage spaces provided.

* All the Tech incorporated in the GT Line variant work quite well. Though i have not made full use of them due to my limited Highway running so far.

* Have yet to complete reading the Full User Manual to understand what all features are incorporated and what all it is capable of doing.

* Not sure which ADAS feature is responsible for this action, but on more than a couple of occasions while entering the Road from a roadside parking, the Car just abrupted braked heavily with metal clanking like sound, which almost felt to me like i rammed into something. I got out of the Car to check but it was all good. Maybe it detected a person or vehicle while i was joining the Main Road. Though i have kept FCA feature of ADAS Switched Off.

* Ventilated Seats are a real boon in this Heat and Humidity.

* Auto-hold and ISG are a must have. There is no going back, once you get used to this.

* I was not too fond of Sunroof in Cars. So much so that i had made up my mind to purchase a Car without Sunroof. But, now that i got one with Sunroof, i really like it with the big and airy feel it provides on use, in a dark Interior colored Car. Am still a bit unsure about how it will hold up in the long term.

* Ride was a bit rough and bumpy initially, but has improved post dropping Tire pressure to 33 psi.

* Good Insulation and Cabin feels Silent, at least when driven with a light foot. Might not be the case during spirited driving, which i have not done so far.

* Cooled Glove Box is a miss.

* Since i have mostly driven within City limits, there is definitely some initial turbo lag i have felt at low speeds, which is irritating at times.

* Mileage has been a slight disappointment so far, hovering around 9 kmpl. Running has been mostly in Normal Drive Mode and within City Limits with just 1 short Highway Trip and Auto AC On all the time. Also, there have been quite a few instances of Engine Idling while stationary either to check certain settings or to beat the heat. Also, the Petrol Fill-ups being only once a month due to low running. These factors might have also contributed towards lower FE figures, but hopefully, it improves with more running as the Engine beds in.

* Expected a better fit and alignment of the Headlamps and Tail-lamps with the Body Panels. Some inconsistent gaps present.

* Pewter Olive Color, though an amazing and unique shade, is a full-on Dust Magnet and it's a huge task to keep the Car clean and shining. Which i had thought would be easier to maintain before finalizing this Color.

2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review-fuelio-log.jpg

Few Mods & Upgrades done so far:

* Upgraded Tires to Conti UC6 in the same stock size, which has contributed to Good Ride Quality and less Road noise seeping in the Cabin. UC6 also tend to retain Tire Pressure pretty well. Have just done 1 Nitrogen Top-up in the past 3 Months and it still shows 31 psi.

* Got the Door Handles painted to Body Color. Personally, it gels better now and has enhanced the look. I also wanted to do something for the other Chrome bits, but maybe sometime later.

* Got the Brake Calipers painted to bright Yellow. This was a tricky choice to make with options of green lime, chrome, gold and yellow that go with the Green color. Did not consider the standard Red Color Calipers to avoid it looking like a Christmas tree. Glanced through few pictures on the Web of few Green Aston Martins with Yellow colored Calipers and finally decided to go with the Yellow.

* This just came up randomly, but taking inspiration from the Hyundai Creta N-Line, got this GT-Line Decal for the Front Grille. Am not expecting it to hold up for too long, but its held on so far.

2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review-image_3.jpg

* Got a VIOFO A229 Plus 2ch Dashcam. Its a bit on the costly side, when you can get much cheaper Dashcams but hopefully, it's a worthy investment which hope i never get into a situation to make use.

* Last, but not the least, it's never complete without showing off Team-BHP Stickers, is it.

Also, super excited that I will be covering the next 1000 Kms within the next week itself as i am off on a Road trip to Goa. Looking forward to spending more time with my Hulk and untapping its potential.
Ciao, until next time.

Blind spot collision avoidance is your saviour here.

The calipers look great, green will yellow goes well. I got copper color for my X line. Hope you got the coloring done in an authorised service center - there could be heat dissipation issues if the paint used is not of good quality.

Re: 2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review

Couple of things I noted yesterday, which till now I was not aware. My car is GTX+ Oct 2023 make and has all 4 windows with one touch auto up-down.

Yesterday I opened the rear left window using one touch (button on driver side), a portion of the window, about an inch, near B pillar remains outside. For some reason I had thought the entire window goes inside the door panel. So I checked the rear window behind the driver side and exactly the same thing happened. About an inch of window stays outside.

With the windows still open, I again pressed down the button on my panel to see what happens and voila, the window glass went completely inside the door panel. Same thing happened with the other window. Is this how it is designed? I hope so

Second thing that I accidently found out (its a minor thing, but a discovery for me nonetheless ) is when you press the sunroof button (not slide, but press it once like on the light buttons) the curtain opens (natural) but the sunroof glass does not slide back from the front. Instead the inner side of the front glass slides open slightly from the middle and opens up a small gap.

Those who were not aware of this, may try it out. Just push the sunroof button instead of sliding it.

Re: 2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review

I currently drive a 2015 - Hyundai Verna CRDI Manual. I drive 30kms+ everyday and the car has done about 1.12L KMs
The car still works absolutely fine, but the manual transmission is starting to become a trouble for me in peak traffic.

Im thinking of getting the Seltos GTX plus (S) Diesel automatic.

Do you think its a good option to go for considering its been almost a year since its launch?

Also I have seen other options like Creta, Taigun, Etc but I did not like any of them

Your suggestions will be highly valuable.

Thanks

I upgraded to Seltos from City and few others have done the same as well. I used to get similar mileage on my City and in heavy traffic daily commutes, I used to get around 10.5kmpl. But in Seltos, inside city I mange to get only around 8-9kmpl. Before first service, I have completed few highway drives and managed to get around 13.5kmpl in highways. But I was cruising at 100+ speeds most of the time, even touching 147kmph once. What I observed was that if you cruise around 80-90kmph speeds, you will get better mileage.

The "since-refuelling" stats on Seltos is always wrong and sometimes resets even though I did not refuel. It's annoying!

I also got same dashcam and the video output is amazing! I had posted a couple of videos on Twitter/Reddit and many comments were about the video clarity! But the thing I loved in it is the HDR and night output, where we can clearly figure out number plates even at night in most scenarios.

This is common in all cars having Sunroofs mostly. I had checked it out during TD itself and also in by brother in law's old Verna.

Yes I am following your posts MalnadMansha. Only thing is am moving from the latest City which has clocked 60k in just above 3 years and am being forced to swap with my 3rd Gen City in Kolkata.
Honestly City has left some brilliant impressions with Space, Comfort & Efficiency
After doing extensive TDs yes I realized the City is an impressive modern car in spite of not being a top seller.

Last time while buying the 5G City the 1.4 DCT Seltos was rejected because of the shortcomings but this time 1.5 DCT Seltos felt much better.

Challenge is I will not get time to adapt and return to Bangalore with the new car and that is where my concerns are.

Yes, I noticed this too, accidentally. It's probably done to let the hot air out when you step into the car. I have started to use the remote start option instead, to get the cabin cool a little as I walk towards my car, even though the AC is good enough to cool the space in a few seconds.

Where did you manage to install it in Pune? Or was it DIY?

Amazing level of attention to detail. I was in dynamic mode of instrument cluster. It was showering outside and even showed the thunders and rain in the display!!

Insurance Query

Hello Bhpians,

Should I go with KIA Insurance from dealer for 77k INR or take it online from Royal Sundaram or Digit for 50k INR.

Checked with the Dealer and both have tie up with KIA and even they are also giving the same Insurance but a different price.

These *Insurance Amount* is fixed by KIA and hence nothing can be done.
They are fine if I go with External Insurance.

Thanks

without an iota of doubt, buy insurance directly from the insurer and not from the dealer. If you do more research, you might get a quote of less than 50k with some other insurer...

Thanks GTX+ but rates depend upon location & RTO based on claim ratio. Typically Metro cities have higher rates.
Since am getting from Kolkata it is lesser than Bangalore and might be lesser for you in Ghaziabad

I got my i20 N Line original quote of around 60K+ insurance from various places. I ended up going with Acko and my premium was around 23k for 1 year OD and 3 year TP premium. My ex-showroom was Rs. 12.12 Lacs.

Acko does not have as much of a middle-men setup so things are not as costly with them generally and out in the market people ask for crazy amounts of insurance premium under any guise. This is partly why Acko is a hit. Low middlemen cost.

As a general observation, your insurance quote for the vehicle should come out to within a maximum of 3% of IDV Amount when you’re buying a new vehicle. Anything above that you have room for negotiation. Try 3 or more insurers for competitive coverage options and premium quotes.

Even for the top variant Turbo Petrol GTX+ DCT, I expect a maximum of Rs. 40k is reasonable insurance cost.

These *insurance amount is fixed by Kia/<replace with another manufacturer>* is a load of standard gimmicks to keep you engaged with their policy and they will even go ahead and say other policies have XYZ problems and are not supported(fear-mongering tactics). Sometimes there will be issues with cashless tie-ups with some insurers in some places, but for the most part most are covered.

I am not sure if insurance quotes are dependent on RTO or claim ratio in a specific RTO if that is what you meant. If I have not made any claims for last 5-10 years, surely I will not be penalised if the area that I live in has more claims made from. But I am not an insurance specialist so will not comment further on this.

But Ghaziabad is considered to be part of NCR which is counted as a metro for all practical purposes.

That is correct. I have used Acko 3 times (current policy is 3rd), and have never faced any issue whatsoever. I bought my GTX+ DCT in Oct 2023, and paid c. 35K for Acko insurance, which also includes 4 add ons.

P.S. I was quoted around 70K by the KIA dealer.
