Re: 2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review

Got the ECM update by visiting the nearest KIA service center.

And boy what a change has come over the engine, as if possessed by a speed demon and just eager to get rolling.

The engine definitely sounds much more refined and smooth. The lag is gone (at least for now). And soon as you move the gear lever to D, the car just wants to get going.

The ECO mode now feels like the SPORT mode while in Gear 1 & 2 and like NORMAL mode there on.

I did not try the NORMAL & SPORT mode as I was enjoying the run in ECO.

Drove around 10-12 kms so cannot comment on the mileage, but the MID showed the same figure throughout.

Post the ECM update, the SA ran the DTC diagnostic to check if there were any errors.

Most of the items checked were found ok except a few e.g. Rear view Monitor, IBU-IMMO, Head up Display which had an ! mark with Comm Fail message. On enquiring the SA said it is because these devices are not factory fitted on the GTX+ model.

I know heads up display is only on the top X-Line, but am not sure of IBU-IMMO (which I googled and is immobiliser). Not sure which model has the rear view monitor.

Lastly, he then moved to another tab where the error codes are mentioned. There was 1 error listed there "FR_RADAR | Front Radar. C160C87 Local CAN Time-out. Again on enquiring he said that sometimes due to low voltage in battery, this error comes up, but its nothing to worry.

We turned on the car and I asked him to run the diagnostics again, this time the error did not come up, but the above mentioned devices had same message.

Experts, please advice if this is something that I should get checked? or nothing to worry about?

Thank you

P.S. Another thing I felt is that the steering has become lighter. Anyone else felt it?

Re: 2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review

My rear right tyre pressure is showing less pressure from few days. Day before yesterday I drove the car after a week ( it was stationary for a week). Before driving got the error of low air pressure in front left and rear right (29-30 in both). I refilled it at nearby shop to 34. The front error disappeared but rear right is now at 32, still the low air pressure error is shown. It usually shows once air pressure drops below 30. Is there an issue with it or just needs a reset ?

Hi all. I've a question about the ADAS feature 'forward collision avoidance'. Those who keep that ALWAYS ON, are you finding it to be risky during weaving in the traffic, even at speeds around 30 kmph? While overtaking (specifically during weaving manoeuvres) I'm hearing the warnings and fear that the vehicle might stop abruptly with auto braking. Is there any better way to avoid the risk of sudden braking?

I've been using my car with all assists ON for the last year. As long as you maintain sufficient distance, they will never interfere. The ADAS suite in Seltos is very well tuned for Indian conditions. The way to avoid sudden braking is to maintain distance. There is no better way.

Hi Guys, is there a way to turn on radio while keeping google map (through car play) on display? whenever radio is turned on, the display only shows radio and map directions are only vocal.

I had a similar situation (tpms error) this month, when air pressure in one of rear tyre dropped below 30 (no punctures upon inspection). I kept driving after refilling to 33psi as usual but error remained. Couldn't find any reset option for TPMS in user manual or under any menu option, but some online search suggested driving for a while after refilling to recommended tyre pressure (35), which also worked (I topped only to 34psi).

It's risky only if you have an aggressive style of driving
eg. If you tend to keep little distance between your & the vehicle ahead and / or try sudden overtaking maneuvers - In such cases it'll trigger FCA braking (depending on the distance of front vehicle) with a grinding sound as it uses ABS for effective braking.

Probable solutions
1. Keep it off if you are an aggressive driver
2. Drive sedately and maintain adequate distance as mentioned by "Blogslogger" to avoid false activation of FCA
3. Drive normally & adjust the FCA driver assistance to "late". This will ensure that the system is not over cautious & will activate only in genuine scenarios.

I am not sure if it works the same in carplay, but in android auto, if I press the mode button on the steering wheel, the map directions remain on screen and the music changes in the background to Android Auto/FM/AM/Sounds of nature etc.

I am not sure about this if its available when I am using Android Auto, but when I am using inbuilt maps, there is a drawer button on screen, if I open it, then I get 2/3 screen for maps and remaining 1/3 is customizable for music/weather/match scores/music/DRVM etc as seen in image. I can see/change the music scores this way. Once the change is done, I simply use the same arrow button to close drawer and view maps on full screen.

PS- Pic clicked by better half from passenger seat.

After switching on the radio if you go back to phone projection (in main menu of car dash) it should display the map & simultaneously keep the radio on. That's how it works for Android Auto & IMO should work for carplay as well.

Have you checked your tire for a puncture? That is a common cause for TPMS errors, as the tire is actually losing pressure.
If there is no puncture, then you can proceed to diagnose the TPMS itself.

Don't think there is a puncture because the pressure is steady for past 2 days.

I gave mine for the 10K service & they did this without even informing me (Saw it in the service sheet). Many OEMs still use the old OBD method to update their ECUS, leaving aside Infotainment. The newer EVs and OEs like Tesla use OTA (Over air the updates). Red bend from Harman has many patents and rules the OTA space in Automotives.

With SDV (Software Defined Vehicles) coming soon, i guess OBD will be a thing of the past. Till such a time we need to take our cars to the service center.
